Korean youth spend tremendous time in school for preparing for college admissions. Their academic achievement and overall satisfaction with their lives are affected by how well they adapt to life in school. Successful adaptation to school is important enough to affect a student's future social life. One of the factors that affect adaptation to school is the psychological condition of adolescent anxiety. Anxiety is one of the common mental disorders that appear in people who are not familiar with new environments. Anxiety is known to be related to behavioral problems, and problems with psychological and emotional adaptation. This condition is dramatically increased in adolescents.Parental conflict in particular is known to be a major factor in affecting youth anxiety. As parental conflict became more severe, children felt more negative emotions such as anger, sadness and worry. Moreover, when a child's issue caused the parental conflict, there were more side effects in the emotional condition of the child. This study shows how parental conflict affects a child's anxiety and a child's school life. This problem is analyzed through structural equation modeling.
This study is a nonequivalent control group pre- and post-test design research whose purpose was to determine what effects the pre-operation provision of information has on the anxiety and uncertainty of mothers with a pre-school child of tonsillectomy and nursing satisfaction after the operation. Data were collected from mothers whose child underwent tonsillectomy at S general hospital. For the collection, those mothers were divided into the experimental and control groups, respectively consisting of 19 and 20 members. The experimental group was provided general education about the operation. In addition, they individually received information about the procedure that the researcher and an assistant provided on one-to-one basis for about 20 minutes, in which brochures containing the information were used. While, the control group was provided only general education as mentioned above. For data analysis, this study conducted ${\chi}^2$-test, Fisher's exact test and Mann-Whitney U-test. The pre-operation provision of information was found having brought significant differences between the control and experimental groups in their anxiety(U=104.5, p=.015) and uncertainty(U=83.5, p=.002) as well as their satisfaction after the operation(U=109.5, p=.022). The findings of this study strongly suggest that information provision before the operation is positively effective in reducing the anxiety and uncertainty of mothers with a tonsillectomy child and increasing their nursing satisfaction after the operation. These effects need to be more verified through repetitive and subsequent researches and by using many other methods of information provision.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a structured preoperative instruction upon anxiety and postoperative self-care compliance. Methods: A randomized control group pre-post design was used. Sixty subjects undergoing cataract surgery were randomly assigned to one of two groups. The instruction consisted of cataract surgery procedure, sensory information, deep breathing, use of eye drop, and post op self-care regimen and was provided to the experimental group with control group receiving an usual treatment. State anxiety NRS, pulse, BP, and self-care compliance scale developed by Cho & Rho were used. Data were collected at two time periods: on the day of surgery in the clinic and prior to anesthesia in the operating room. The postoperative self-care compliance scores were measured at their second visits to the hospital after surgery. Data were analyzed using Kolmogorov Smirnov test, t-test, and Mann-Whitney U test. Results: There were significant differences between the two groups in the postoperative state anxiety (t=-3.57, p=.001) and the postoperative self-care compliance score (t=3.92, p<.001). There were no significant difference between the two groups in the postoperative blood pressure and pulse rate. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that the structured preoperative instruction could be a nursing intervention for cataract surgery patients.
Purpose: Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI), a highly prevalent behavior in adolescents, refers to the direct destruction of one's body tissue without suicidal intent. To date, the prevalence of adolescent self-injury in South Korea and its associated factors remain unknown. This study aims to determine the prevalence of self-injury in Korean adolescents as well as its associated factors. Methods: We assessed 717 middle school students by means of an anonymous self-report survey. Information about demographic characteristics, lifestyle, anxiety and depression, self-esteem, and parenting behavior was obtained. Data were analyzed using $x^2$ test, t-test and multiple logistic regression. Results: NSSI was reported by 8.8% of respondents. Univariate analyses showed associations of exposure to alcohol use, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and parenting methods with self-injury. In multiple analyses, alcohol use, anxiety, and parental abuse were associated with lifetime self-injury. Conclusion: The rate of NSSI in the South Korea was found to be lower than those of other countries. As our study suggests that alcohol use, anxiety, and parental abuse are associated with lifetime self-injury, health care providers at school should take these factors into account when developing prevention and intervention programs for adolescents.
This study was done in order to help alleviate or prevent the anxiety resulting from cardiac catheterization among adult patients. This goal may be re-ached through providing relaxation techenique to the patients. Such an informativeness would make it possible to establish a basis for comprehensive nursing intervention. The results of this study are summarized as fellows: 1. The first hypothesis:“The experimental group with relaxation informativeness will have less score of state anxiety level before cardiac catheterization than the control group without relaxation informativeness”was accepted. (t=3.72, p=.001). 2. The second hypothesis: “The experimental group with relaxation technique informativeness will have less score of distress level during the procedure than the control group without relaxation technique informativeness”was accepted. (t=2.36, p=.023) 3. Additional analysis; It is seen that most cardiac patients were satisfied with precardiac catheterization procedure information provided by medical teams. (experimental group: 90%, control group: 85%) The relaxation technique informativeness contributed to the decrease of anxiety level. Patients showed interest in reusing the relaxation technique informativeness in the event of further need. In conclusion, the researcher thinks that it is necessary that nurses provide Patients with relaxation technique to reduce the anxiety level with cardiac catheterigation. This will enable them to practice effective comprehensive nursing.

Objectives: This study aimed to identify the relationship between thoughts and psychological anxiety about nuclear power among Busan residents. Methods: Convenience sampling was used for this cross-sectional survey conducted from February 13 to 14, 2016. A total of 520 residents participated in the study and completed a self-administered questionnaire. Results: We found a significant association between negative thoughts and psychological anxiety about nuclear power. People older than 60 years (odds ratio (OR) 2.53, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.41-4.54), who feared the possibility of radiation accidents (OR 1.75, 95% CI 1.17-2.62), considered nuclear power plants unsafe (OR 1.94, 95% CI 1.10-3.40), and believed the Gori nuclear power plant in Busan must be shut down (OR 1.84, 95% CI 1.22-2.79), had the highest anxiety about radiation exposure. Conclusions: The authors suggest the need for the formulation of a policy to provide people with precise information on nuclear power to increase their understanding and help eliminate unfounded negative thoughts. Furthermore, policy decisions about nuclear power must be based on social consensus.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of education and test information provision on anxiety, discomfort, and satisfaction of patients during double contrast barium enema. The experiments were conducted from October 11, 2010 to November 5, 2010. Among all patients who visited the hospital to receive colon study in the outpatient radiology clinic of one general hospital located in Seoul, a total of 50 patients fit for selection criteria were divided into an experimental group (25) and a control group (25). After providing education and test information to the experimental group, we evaluated patients' levels of anxiety and discomfort, as well as satisfaction. The experimental group and the control group had different anxiety scores: 3.76 versus 6.04 respectively (P<0.05). In addition, the levels of abdominal pain and anal pain in the experimental group were lower than those of the control group (P<0.05). Lastly, the scores of test satisfaction between two groups were 89.6 and 67.4 respectively (P<0.05). Education and test information provision about the colon study decreased the levels of patients' anxiety and discomfort and increased satisfaction level of the test.

This study aimed to explore anxiety, risk perception, information literacy, and performance level of infection prevention practices against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) among nursing students during the pandemic. A descriptive online survey was conducted, targeting a total of 224 nursing students from June 8, 2020 to 14, 2020. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, analysis of variance, and correlation analysis using SPSS 26.0. The nursing students' level of anxiety was 6.86 out of 10, which was normal. Their information literacy level and performance level of infection prevention practices were 3.50 out of 4 and 4.44 out of 5, respectively, and these scores were considered high. The higher the level of anxiety, risk perception, and information literacy, the higher the level of infection prevention practices. The level of anxiety with respect to infection and risk perception may increase when new types of infectious diseases such as COVID-19 break out. Therefore, it is necessary to promote the accurate understanding of the infectious diseases by providing sufficient information. Accurate understanding of new infectious diseases can reduce the risk of transmission as it encourages people to thoroughly perform infection prevention practices.
Every patient, who enters the hospital has a potential for becoming anxious. The control of hospitalization anxiety experienced by hospital patients is considered to be an important factor in the process of recovery from illness. This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between informativeness and hospitalization anxiety in order to give basic data for psycho-social aspect of nursing care for hospitalized patients. One hundred patients admitted to Kyungpook National University Hospital during the period of Jan. to June 1975 were sampled and divided into two groups; fifty of experimental and fifty of control group. The set of informations prepared by the investigator were given additionally to experimental group while the control group only received routine informations. Both groups were rated according to the Hospitalization Informativeness Scale which consisted of 24 questionaries and 4 categories and Hospitalization Anxiety Scale one or two days prior to discharge from the hospital. The results of the study were as follows; 1 . Mean values of Hospitalization Informativeness Scale revealed significant differences at 0.01 level with experimental group showing higher mean value. Age, sex ana educational states aid not influence the mean values of Hospitalization Informativeness Scale in both groups. 2 . The length of hospitalization did not influence significantly on the mean value of Hospitalization Informativeness Scale in both groups. 3. Rank difference correlation coefficiently between mean value of Hospitalization Informativeness Scale and the importance of information the patient's perceived were revealed significant at 0.01 level in all 4 categories such as admission discharge, treatment and nursing activities, diagnostic test, diagnosis and prognosis, health teaching for the patient and family in experimental group. While, only two categories such as treatment and nursing activities and health teaching for the patient and family in control group were revealed significant correlation. 4. Mean value of Hospitalization Anxiety Scale revealed significant difference at 0.05 level with the experimental group showing lower Hospitalization Anxiety Scale. 5. Correlation coefficiently between Hospitalization Informativeness Scale and Hospitalization Anxiety Scale were revealed significant at 0.01 level in experimental group but there was no significant correlation in control group.
