  • The great flowing of information has brought a necessity for good management to make the best use of it in the highly competitive information age. The aims of this study are to investigate the main information sources - divided into largely three groups : literature sources, communication and information technology facilities,), trying to find problem areas associated with IRM, indicating possible solutions. The result shows that internal information sources were regarded the most important and most frequently used. For the use of foreign materials, the higher the level of position is, the more people use them. With respect to communication methods, internal information sources were thought most important. With the dramatic falling of the price despite enormously increased functions, IT facilities are becoming important sources. However, the study reveals the use of them is quite limited to a few well-known facilities, witch indicates that management should pay attention to more efficient use of them and useful training and education methods.

  • In this paper, we suggest a method utilizing OSHW(Open Source HardWare) in order to raise up students who are competent in IT convergence and integration as a basic research to improve the university software education. Software education cannot be too much emphasized in the age of big change of Fourth Industrial Revolution. It hardly seems to have changes in the software education area of university where has to train competent technicians to be deployed into the industrial field, although software education is planned even in elementary, middle, and high school. In this situation, we expect that utilizing OSHW in software education can result in gaining a meaningful effect. However, we don't have various and systemic approach which use it as a education system component, unlike the response and necessity OSHW market. Therefore in this paper we suggest models which constitute software education environment based on OSHW and exemplify how to use it in each model. In addition, we compare and analyze each model in order to give a criteria to choice one of them according to the condition.

  • The results of this study, suggest public communication to promote the use of radiation as follows: first, suitable information for the recipient's perception patterns should be provided, as there is a difference in risk perception and acceptance between the experts and the public. Thus, information on the necessity of nuclear power should be provided to the public, while information based on technical risks is provided by the experts. Second, since the levels of perception, knowledge, and attitudes increased highly for sectors which use radiation after the class, classes should be provided continuously to increase students' perception, knowledge, and attitude, which are all preemptive variables which induce positive behavioral changes. Third, since the seven sectors which use radiation are highly correlated, arguments for the necessity of other sectors should be based on the necessity of the medical sector.

  • I studied a distance education model for English learning on the Internet. Basic WWW files, that contain courseware, are constructed with HTML, and functions, which are required in learning, are implemented with Java. Students and educators can access the preferred unit composed of the appropriate text, voice and image data by using a WWW browser at any time. The education system supports the automatic generation facility of English problems to practice reading and writing by making good use of the courseware data or various English text resources located on the Internet. Our system has functions to manage and control the flow of distance learning and to offer interaction between students and the system in a distributed environment. Educators can manage students' learning and can immediately be aware of who is attending and who is quitting the lesson in virtual space. Also, students and educators in different places can communicate and discuss a topic through the server. I implemented these functions, which are required in a client/server environment of distance education, with the use of Java. The URL for this system is "http://park.taegu-e.ac.kr" in the name of GAIA.

  • The article is based on a model, in the context of which there are two fundamental building blocks of basic library skills and skills in the use of information technology. The former are formed within the framework of educational programs for users of academic libraries, the latter are formed within the framework of initiatives such as the European Computer Driving License. Between the basic and the highest levels of the concept of "information literacy" there are seven heading skills and attributes, the repeated practice of which leads from the position of a competent user to an expert level of reflection and critical awareness of information as an intellectual resource. Freshmen will likely be at the beginning of the arrow, probably practicing only the first four skills, while graduate students and young scientists will be closer to the end and will use seven skills.

  • This study was designed to assess the needs for nutrition education and educational materials for older adults. Two cross-sectional surreys were conducted. The first survey, conducted by personal interviews, was part of the large-scale elderly nutrition study. Subjects were adults aged 50 and over, recruited from 6 large cities and 8 middle-sized cities(n = 1,850). The second survey, done by mail survey using open-ended questions, was conducted with dietitians working at public health centers or hospitals(n = 53). Adults aged 50 and over were interested in topics such as healthly eating(32.1%), hypertension/stroke and diet(22.1%), osteoporosis and diet(11.4%), and diabetes and diet(9.2%). Television and radio(58.2%), health professionals(12.2%) and friends(7.9%) were common sources of nutrition information. Preferred topics of nutrition education and sources of nutrition information were different by general characteristics of subjects, suggesting that nutrition education or educational materials be planned considering the characteristics of subjects. About 70% of subjects indicated that they sometimes use or do not use nutrition information in daily lives, suggesting the need to provide more practical information. Among 53 facilities responding to the second survey, 73.6% provided nutrition education for older adults. Common topics for nutrition education included diabetes(39.3%), hypertension and stroke(19.1%) and general nutritional management(11.2%). These were consistent to the topics preferred by older adults. As materials In elderly education, dietitians wanted primarily to use leaflets and slides. Boards, booklets and posters were other commonly cited materials. For contents of elderly educational materials, dietitians mentioned the nutritional management for age-related diseases(33.8%), general nutritional management for older adults(25.4%) and practically applicable information(19.7%). They also suggested that nutrition education materials for the elderly should use larger print and attractive pictures, and be easily understood, as well as presenting simple, specific and practical information. These results provide baseline information for developing nutrition education and educational materials for older adults.

  • While the first step of the comprehensive plan for educational informationization focused on the infrastructure establishment, the second step aims to develop creativity and problem solving skills of students through the use of Information and Communication Technology(ICT). The purpose of this research is to investigate the current status of the educational use of ICT in elementary schools, and to give guidelines for future educational informationization. Four aspects of ICT(i.e., school environments, teachers' abilities to use ICT, methods for using ICT in class, and factors hindering the use of ICT in schools) were examined in the survey. From the survey, it is found that ICT is now used in schools more actively than before. However, it is also found that more efforts need to be made in some areas such as instructional strategies using ICT in class, and the design and the management of teacher training programs.
