A Competency-based Strategic Information System Planning System Development and Its Application

  • This paper presents a competency-based system for supporting corporate strategic information system planning. This system is implemented in practice via a detailed three stage methodology. The three stages are defining current business, analyzing competency, and suggesting To-Be enablers. The business objectives are evaluated on competencies in terms of experts' preference information about degree of importance between competencies on them. This system provides an efficient, systematic and structured framework and helps dramatically reduce the time needed to plan strategic information system.

Computation and Communication Efficient Key Distribution Protocol for Secure Multicast Communication

  • Secure multimedia multicast applications involve group communications where group membership requires secured dynamic key generation and updating operations. Such operations usually consume high computation time and therefore designing a key distribution protocol with reduced computation time is necessary for multicast applications. In this paper, we propose a new key distribution protocol that focuses on two aspects. The first one aims at the reduction of computation complexity by performing lesser numbers of multiplication operations using a ternary-tree approach during key updating. Moreover, it aims to optimize the number of multiplication operations by using the existing Karatsuba divide and conquer approach for fast multiplication. The second aspect aims at reducing the amount of information communicated to the group members during the update operations in the key content. The proposed algorithm has been evaluated based on computation and communication complexity and a comparative performance analysis of various key distribution protocols is provided. Moreover, it has been observed that the proposed algorithm reduces the computation and communication time significantly.

  • Recently mobile SFA(Sales Force Automation) system makes rapidly progress specially in industries like insurance, manufacture, and distribution. However, there are some problems that information about products and trades is not promptly shared among sales agents or customers, since the current mobile SFA system has simply extended the existing systems for sales management. In order to improve these weaknesses, we introduce LBS(Location Based Service) and mobile P2P(Peer to Peer) service into the existing systems, then design and implement the enhanced system (or mobile SFA using them. Through this improvement, our system makes it possible for customers or sales agents to quickly share various information and increases the efficiency of sales activity by facilitating the competition and cooperation among sales agents and reducing time-cost.

Most previous research on CSF have focused on identifying critical factors, based on the variance theory, in terms of the correlation between individual factor and Information system (IS) success. However, it is unknown how a set of critical factors Influence each other and lead to IS success, which means the process of IS implementation. in this research, we aim to understand how a set of critical factors influence each other and lead to IS success in the context of IS implementation for Customer Relationship Management based on the process theory. This research has implications In explaining a mechanism leading to CRM systems success based on the influencial relationships among the critical factors.

  • For high performance Grid environments, an efficient GIS(Grid Information Service is required In the Metacomputing Directory Service(MDS) of the Glogus middleware, the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol(LDAP), which is a distributed directory service protocol, is used. The LDAP GIS differs from general purpose LDAP directories in that most of the LDAP operations are write in Grid environments. To get an efficient design of the GIS, it is thus required to analyze the performance of the LDAP system in the context of Grid environments. This paper presents the result of a performance analysis of LDAP systems. The main objective of the evaluation is to see the performance scalability of the LDAP system in the Grid environment where the write operations prevails. Based on these results, we suggest directions of an efficient LDAP-based GIS for a high performance Grid.

  • This paper complements the work of Courtney et al. in viewing learning organizations as inquiring systems. Hegelian inquiring systems are based on the dialectic. Dialectic can not exist without dialogue. The guarantor of this system is conflict. Hegelian inquiring systems would facilitate multiple and contradictory interpretations of reality. Hegelian synthesis of two opposing models-thesis and antithesis-is the epitome of open systems and double-loop learning. Knowledge gained from the Hegelian inquiring systems may result in an entirely new strategic direction to organizations. This paper reviews some guidelines and principles of Hegelian learning organizations and IT support of it. Also it proposes the immediate deployment of Hegelian learning organizations in the wicked business environments and finally suggests the development of new, flexible information technologies and systems for Hegelian organizations.

  • To rapidly respond to uncertainties in the business environment whilst remaining competitive, every organization needs to be able to successfully introduce and manage organizational change. Cognizant of the role of information systems (IS) as an enabler of organizational change, many organizations have paid attention to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems for successful organizational change primarily because of their change-driving forces across organizations. This study focuses attention on the role of readiness for change in the ERP systems adoption. Readiness for change described as views about the need for organizational change is posited to be an antecedent of two expectancies about the system, performance expectancy and effort expectancy, which lead to actual system use. Based on data gathered from the users of the ERP systems, structural equation analysis using LISREL provides significant support for the proposed relationships.

A Temporal Relational Database:Modeling and Language

  • A temporal database systems provides timing information and maintains history of data compared to the conventional database system. In this paper, we present a temporal relational database which use an interval-stamping method for instant-based events and for interval-based states. A set of temporal algebraic operators are developed on an instance of time and interval of time so that we can manipulate events and states at a same time. The set of operation is the basis for creating a relational algebra that is closed for temporal relations. And temporal SQL is also suggested as a temporal query relational language for our algebraic operations on temporal relations.

A Comparative Evaluation of Airline Service Quality Using Online Content Analysis: A Case Study of Korean vs. International Airlines

  • Airlines can employ a variety of quality monitoring procedures. In this study, we employ a content analysis of 8 years of online reviews for Korean airlines in contrast to other international airlines. Online airline reviews are infrequent, relative to the total number of passengers - the number of reviews is multiple orders of magnitude lower than passenger volumes - and online airline reviews are, therefore, not representative of passenger attitudes overall. Nevertheless, online reviews may be indicative of specific service issues, and draw attention to aspects that require further study by airline operators. Furthermore, significant words and phrases used in these airline reviews may help airline operators to rapidly automate filtering, partitioning, and analysis of incoming passenger comments via other channels, including email, social media posts, and call center transcripts. The current study provides insights into the contents of online reviews of Korean vs Other-International airlines, and opportunities for service enhancement. Further, we provide a set of marker words and phrases that may be helpful for management dashboards that require automated partitioning of passenger comments.

고품질의 사출금형 NC 가공 데이터 선정을 위한 의사결정지원시스템 개발 (Development of a decision support system for high quality NC data selection in mold manufacturing)

  • Mold industry has the difficulty to employ young people as the successors of the skilled workers, because it has been regarded as a 3D-jobs(dirty, difficult, and dangerous). To overcome this situation, thus, manufacturing technologies maintained in the factory should be systemized, and engineering systems should support unskilled workers to do their jobs without any difficulty. As a research of developing the supporting system, this study proposes a decision support system that facilitates unskilled workers to easily select high quality NC-data, as well as to increase productivity. The proposed system is assumed to follow a CAM operation scenario that consists of next three steps: 1) identifying several process plans and enumerating feasible unit machining operations (UMOs) from material and part surface information, 2) creating all feasible NC-data based on UMOs using a commercial CAM system, 3) selecting the best NC data among the feasible NC data using four screening criteria, such as machining accuracy, machining allowance, cutting load, and processing time. A case study on the machining of a camera core mold is provided to demonstrate the proposed system.
