How to Chase Changing Middle Managers′ Roles in the Informediary Era: Spiral Gap Analysis Model and Star Process

  • Rapid advances in information technology(IT) and telecommunication systems impact the number and quality of decision-making in organizations. Specifically, middle mangers must posses or develop the creativity necessary for survival in a constantly changing and volatile business environment. While tradition and conventional wisdom tell us that a middle managers role centers on control and monitoring, todays competitive arena has spun out a new managerial requirement developing and maintaining an innovative attitude. Problematically, most previous research has focused on the issue of changing decision authority (i. e. centralization/decentralization). Moreover, much previous research has also largely ignored environmental changes exposing new roles that middle managers have assumed. This study explores the means of identifying middle managerial roles, managerial possibilities involving the growing popularity of open systems through electronic brainstorming, and an adaptation and development of Diffusion Theory and attempt to counter criticism leveled at the theory's inability to provide an adequate explanation for diffusion of complex organizational technology. This paper develops three ideas: 1) Introducing the 'Chasing Curve' as a theoretical background. 2) Suggesting a new methodology using electronic brainstorming for analyzing the gap between Knowing (the perceived importance of middle managers' roles) and Doing (the degree of current status of middle managers' roles), which we term the 'Spiral Gap Analysis Model'. 3) Identifying a feedback system for minimizing the Knowing - Doing gap, aimed at development of IT strategic priority decision support, which we call this the 'Star Process'.

Adsorption kinetic and mechanistic view of aqueous ferric ion onto bio-natural rice grains

  • Adsorption kinetics of aqueous ferric ion ($Fe^{3+}$) onto bio-natural rice grains (BRG) have been studied in a batch system. The influence of contact time (0-180 minutes), the dosage of BRG adsorbent (10, 20, 40, and $60gL^{-1}$), and ambient temperature (27, 37, 47, and $57^{\circ}C$) for the adsorption system have been reported. The equilibrium time achieved after 20 minutes of adsorption contact time. The maximum removal of ferric ion is 99% by using $60gL^{-1}$ of BRG, $T=37^{\circ}C$, and $50mgL^{-1}$ ferric ion solution. Adsorption kinetic and diffusion models, such as pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order, and Weber-Morris intra-particle diffusion model, have been used to describe the adsorption rate and mechanism of the ferric ion onto BRG surface. The sorption data results are fitted by Lagergren pseudo-second order model ($R^2=1.0$). The kinetic parameters, rate constant, and sorption capacities have been calculated. The new information in this study suggests that BRG could adsorb ferric ion from water physiosorption during the first 5 minutes. Afterward, the electrostatic interaction between ferric ion and BGR-surface could take place as a very weak chemisorptions process. Thus, there is no significant change could be noticed in the FTIR spectra after adsorption. I recommend producing BGR as a bio-natural filtering material for removing the ferric ion from water.

GPU 가속 기술을 이용한 격자 볼츠만법 기반 원유 확산 과정 시뮬레이션 (GPU-accelerated Lattice Boltzmann Simulation for the Prediction of Oil Slick Movement in Ocean Environment)

  • This paper describes a new simulation technique for advection-diffusion phenomena over the sea surface using the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM), capable of predicting oil dispersion from tankers. The LBM is used to solve the pollutant transport problem within the framework of the ocean environment. The sea space is represented by the lattices, where each lattice has the information on oil transportation. Since dispersed oils (i.e., oil droplets) at sea are transported by convection due to waves, buoyancy, and turbulent diffusion, the conservation of mass and many physical oil transport rules were used in the prediction model. Since the LBM is modeled using the uniform lattices and simple rules, it can be easily accelerated by the parallel mechanism, for example, GPU-accelerated method. The proposed model using the LBM is used to simulate a simple pollution event with the oil pollutants of 10,000 kL. The simulation results indicate that the LBM method accelerated with the GPU is 6 times faster than that without the GPU.

하절기 천안 제 2산업단지의 대기오염확산 및 악취물질에 관한 연구 (Dispersion of Air Pollutants Dispersion and Odorous Materials in Cheon-an Second Industrial Complex)

  • 본 연구는 천안 제 2산업단지에서 배출되는 대기오염물질과 악취물질을 분석하고 대기오염물질의 확산모델링을 수행하고자 함을 목적으로 한다. 측정은 12가지 지정 악취물질과 대기오염물질의 농도에 대하여 2005년 8월에 수행하였다. 악취물질은 주요 배출원을 중심으로 부지경계선에서 측정 및 분석을 실시하였으며, 대기오염물질은 ISCST3모델을 이용하여 대기오염확산 농도를 계산하였다. Air Master는 현재 국내 대기환경영향평가에 많이 사용되고 있고 U.S. EPA의 추천모델인 ISC3모델 중 ISCST3모델을 사용하였다. 따라서 천안 제 2산업단지를 대상으로 하절기 대기오염물질을 측정하여 모델링 하고 악취물질은 시료채취 후 분석을 실시하여 주변 지역에 영향을 끼치는 대기오염물질과 악취발생물질의 종류와 발생 원인을 규명하고자 한다.

FEMFC 최적설계를 위한 촉매층모델과 기체확산층 특성해석 (Characteristic analysis of The Catalyst Layer and Gas Diffusion Layer Model for FEMFC optimal design)

  • 고분자 막 연료전지는 높은 전력밀도, 낮은 배출 및 낮은 동작온도 때문에 미래 자동차 및 전력생산의 강력한 보류이다. FEMFC 내부의 기체확산층(GDL)의 중요한 관심은 물의 조절이다. GDL은 소수성 PTFE와 전기전도성을 위해서 탄소로 보통 구성되어 있다. 이 시뮬레이션에서 GDL 흐름은 확립된 방정식 모델의 단순화된 접근법으로 조사되었다. GDL의 성능은 모델 방정식을 이용하여 전지의 내부열, 수증기 밀도 와 산소밀도의 결과를 보였다. FEMFC 촉매층 모델은 유효인자, Butler-volmer 와 수소유동 밀도의 결과를 나타냈다. 이 결과들은 몇 가지 요소들과 함께 영향의 차이는 흥미 가지게 되며 정보는 연료전지를 설계하는데 도움을 줄 것이다.

추적자 실험 및 3차원 수치모의를 이용한 저수지 수처리 장치의 영향반경 평가 (Assessing the Influence Radius of a Water Treatment System Installed in a Reservoir Using Tracer Experiment and 3D Numerical Simulation)

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the radius of influence of effluent of water treatment system developed for the purpose of improvement of reservoir water quality using fluorescent dye (Rhodamine-WT) tracer experiment and 3-D numerical model. The tracer experiment was carried out in a medium-sized agricultural reservoir with a storage capacity of $227,000m^3$ and an average depth of 1.6 m. A guideline with a total length of 160 m was installed at intervals of 10 m in the horizontal direction from the discharge part, and a Rhodamine measurement sensor (YSI 6130, measurement range $0-200{\mu}g/L$) was used to measure concentration changes in time, distance, and depth. Experimental design was established in advance through Jet theory and the diffusion process was simulated using ELCOM, a three dimensional hydraulic dynamics model. As a result of the study, the direct effect radius of the jet emitted from the applied water treatment system was about 50-70 m, and the radius of physical effect by the advection diffusion was judged to be 100-120 m. The numerical simulations of effluent advection-diffusion of the water treatment system using ELCOM showed very similar results to those of the impact radius analysis using the tracer experiment and jet flow empirical equations. The results provide valuable information on the spatial extent of the water quality improvement devices installed in the reservoir and the facility layout design.

확산단계에 따른 경쟁요인 변화 연구:Tablet과 노트북 사례를 중심으로 (A Study on the Change of Competition Factors According to Diffusion Stage - Focusing on the Case of Tablet and Notebook PCs)

  • 정보통신(IT) 분야는 변화가 빠르게 진행되었다. 많은 혁신제품이 출시되고, 일부는 안정적으로 시장을 형성하여 확산되지만, 일부는 사라져 버린다. 본 연구에서는 스마트기기 간 시간의 경과에 따른 경쟁요인을 도출하였다. 혁신확산이론(IDT)의 혁신채택단계를 산업수명주기이론(ILC)의 산업수명주기에 적용하여 도입기, 성장기, 성숙기의 3단계로 구분하여 시간의 흐름에 따른 시장특성 모형을 정의하였다. 노트북 컴퓨터와 태블릿 사례의 경쟁관계를 분석하여 제안된 이론적 모형의 적합도를 확인하였다. 시간의 흐름에 따라 5가지의 경쟁요인은 다르게 작용하며 도입기에는 기능성과 유희성이 중요한 경쟁요인이 되고, 성장기에는 기능성과 유희성 외에도 적합성이 추가적으로 작용함을 알 수 있었다. 마지막의 성숙기에는 적합성과 복잡성, 그리고 비용수준이 중요한 경쟁요인이었다.

The Development of Subject Gateway and Library Operating Model for the Diffusion of Entrepreneurship

  • While the body of cases on startup has grown substantially, there has been a lack of a one-stop gateway of entrepreneurship. The study attempts to build a subject gateway for startup information services based on case studies, users' needs analysis, and literature reviews. The results show that users have difficulty in selecting useful information since the excess of information and the search for the desired information as it is scattered across a wide range of sources. The study designed a subject gateway by a navigation system that enables flexible browsing within the entire gateway through the ontology modeling. The study also presented an example of startup records to display how startup information can be explored. This study is expected to contribute to the understanding of the current status related to business startup services. The business startup digital gateways based on empirical data analysis will contribute to extending library service for startup.

  • RoA is an important figure of merits for estimating the performance of p-n junction infrared detectors. This paper presents the tunneling current contribution to RoA of $Hg_{1-x}Cd_{x}$Te n$^{+}$-p juction photodiodes. Then, a diffusion model, a thermal generation-recombination model, an indirect tunneling model via trap, and a band-to-band direct tunneling model are considered to calculate RoA. Using these models, RoA depending on temperature, doping concentration, and mole fraction is calculated. Also from these results, under various operating conditions the dominant dark current mechanisms cna be understood.

  • Three-dimensional simulator for thermal oxidation process is developed. The simulator is consisted by two individual module, one is analytic-model module and the other is numerical-model module. The analytic-model which uses simple complementary-error function guarantees fast calculation in prediction of multi-dimensional oxidation process. The numerical-model which is based on boundary element method (BEM), has a good accuracy and suitable for various process conditions. The results of this study show that oxide growth is retarded at the corner of hole structure and enhanced at the corner of island structure. These effects are reson of different distribution of oxidant diffusion and mask stress. The utility of models and simulator developed in this study is demonstrated by using it to predict not only traditional shape of LOCOS but also process effects in small geometry.
