  • For the remote operation of the mobile robot, the human operator depends fully on the sensory information which is the partial information of the workspace of the mobile robot. It is usually very hard to fully manually operate the mobile robot in this situation. We propose the efficient guidance navigation method for improving the efficiency of the remote operation with the expanded guide circle using the sensory information. The guidance command is generated from the proposed algorithm using the expanded guide circle. We evaluated the performance of the proposed algorithm using the experiments.

  • The IEEE 802.11 WLAN adopts a random backoff algorithm for its collision avoidance mechanism, and it is well known that the contention-based algorithm may suffer from performance degradation especially in congested networks. In this paper, we design an efficient backoff algorithm that utilizes a reinforcement learning method to determine optimal values of backoffs. The mobile nodes share a common contention window (CW) in our scheme, and using a Q-learning algorithm, they can avoid collisions by finding and implicitly reserving their optimal time slot(s). In addition, we introduce Frame Size Control (FSC) algorithm to minimize the possible degradation of aggregate throughput when the number of nodes exceeds the CW size. Our simulation shows that the proposed backoff algorithm with FSC method outperforms the 802.11 protocol regardless of the traffic conditions, and an analytical modeling proves that our mechanism has a unique operating point that is fair and stable.

  • This paper proposes a cross-tier interference avoidance scheme to improve femtocell performance in single frequency heterogeneous cellular networks (SFHCN). The scheduled macrocell users located close femtocell base stations cause serious interference to those femtocells so that the performance of femtocell is dramatically deteriorated. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an interference avoidance scheme by reversing the uplink and downlink frames of such femtocells. After reversing the uplink and downlink frames, femtocell base station relays the macrocell user data as well as transmitting its own data. In the 1st relaying link, femtocell and macrocell users transmit their data respectively divided uplink frames and in the 2nd relaying link, femtocell base station transmit macrocell and femtocell data using a simultaneously superposition coding scheme. Computer simulation results confirm performance improvement of proposed scheme.

  • USNs (Ubiquitous Sensor Networks) such as IEEE 802.15.4 ZigBee network share ISM (Industrial, Scientific, and Medical) frequency band with WiFi networks. Once both networks operate in a region, packet collision may happen because of frequency overlapping. To assure this possibility, we conducted experiments where WiFi and ZigBee communication networks had been installed in an area. As a result of the test, successful data transmission rate were reduced due to the frequency overlapping between a WiFi communication channel and a ZigBee communication band. To cope with this problem, we propose a collision avoidance algorithm. In the proposed algorithm, if frequency collision is sensed, new communication channel with different frequency band is allocated to each node. Performance of the proposed frequency collision avoidance algorithm was tested and the results were described.

  • This study were investigated to the factors affecting smart phone applications to avoid display ads. The results of this study are as follows. First, factor analysis, propensity for advertising intrusion was the result of a single factor. Also showed significant effect advertising intrusion ad avoidance tendency. Second, the smartphone motivation for the use of the results of factor analysis, seven factors were, Entertainment, information acquisition, learning/work use, multimedia use, ease of life, time leverage, respectively. Showed low levels of advertising avoidance learning/working synchronous usability and ease high motivation life. Finally a smart phone for involvement that there is no significant difference in advertising intrusion tendency appeared. High involvement group was obtaining information, entertainment, social relationships, and multimedia use, ease of living, time management motivation significantly higher than the low involvement group. The results of this study it is expected that the smartphone application smartphone users to reduce evasion of advertising practitioners to give answers to create display ads advertising.

  • TCP does not ensure the bandwidth and delay bound required for multimedia streaming services in broadband wireless network environments. In this paper, we propose a new congestion control scheme for efficient multimedia transmission, called COLO TCP (Concave Increase Slow Start Logarithmic Increase Congestion Avoidance TCP). The COLO TCP prevents the burst packet loss by applying the concave increase algorithm in slow start phase. In the congestion avoidance phase, COLO TCP uses the logarithmic increase algorithm that quickly recovers congestion window after packet loss. To highly utilize network bandwidth and reduce packet loss ratio, COLO TCP uses additive increase algorithm and adaptive decrease algorithm. Through simulation results, we prove that our COLO TCP is more robust for random loss. It is also possible for efficient multimedia transmission.

  • Like other wireless network protocols, IEEE 802.15.4 adopts CA (Collision Avoidance)algorithm to avoid the early collision of a new packet by randomizing its first transmission time rather than its immediate delivery. The traditional CA scheme of IEEE 802.15.4, however, selects the random access time from the predetermined range without considering the degree of current congestion. It probably causes either a long delay to settle in the suitable range for the current network load or frequent clashes especially during the long lasting heavy traffic period. This paper proposes an ACA(Adaptive Collision Avoidance) algorithm adapting the initial backoff range to the undergoing collision variations. It also introduces a mathematical model to predict the performance of ACA algorithm added to IEEE 802.15.4. With only small deviations from corresponding simulations, our analytical model shows that ACA technique can improve the throughput of IEEE 802.15.4 by up-to 41% maximally in addition to shortening the packet delays.

  • This paper examines the effects of strong corporate governance for listed companies in accessing capital markets from the point of view of the weighted average cost of capital. Results found that corporate governance had a significant negative(-) relation to the weighted average cost of capital. This finding is consistent with previous research and implies that the higher shareholder ownership and foreign ownership have confidence in the financial information of the company, and therefore, risk is reduced for investors. This results in lower expected rates of return and companies will pay a lower cost of capital. Second, tax evasion had a positive effect(+) on the weighted average cost of capital. The low quality of corporate accounting information is expected to increase tax avoidance. Accordingly, this results in increased risk. If the required rate of return is high in its impact,it leads to increased capital costs. In addition, corporate governance and tax avoidance factors showed a negative affect (-) on the weighted average cost of capital. Corporate governance plays an important role in tax avoidance and the weighted average cost of capital, and strong corporate governance reducesthe impact on tax avoidance. In addition, the weighted average cost of capital in capital markets showed the reducing effect.

  • In this paper, we propose interference avoidance resource allocation scheme based on graph-coloring algorithm to introduce performance gain using spatial reuse in D2D (Device-to-Device) system. By assigning multiple D2D pairs to a single D2D resource, interference from neighboring D2D pairs is inevitable, which leads to performance degradation. Therefore, we first introduce the feedback information and the method considering the amount of information that can be practically provided by a D2D pair. Then, we propose how to construct a graph, which is corresponding to the D2D system, using the feedback information and adopt a graph-coloring algorithm to efficiently avoid interference. Simulation results show that the proposed resource allocation scheme outperforms traditional resource allocation schemes in both overall sum rate and spectral efficiency of D2D system while reducing the outage probability. Moreover, the outage probability, which indicates a failure rate of D2D communication, can be reduced by adopting the proposed scheme.
