  • This paper investigates the influence of thermal conductivity and variable viscosity on the problem of micropolar fluid in the presence of suction or injection. The fluid viscosity is assumed to vary as an exponential function of temperature and the thermal conductivity is assumed to vary as a linear function of temperature. The governing fundamental equations are approximated by a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations and are solved numerically by using shooting method. Numerical results are presented for the distribution of velocity, microrotation and temperature profiles within the boundary layer. Results for the details of the velocity, angular velocity and temperature fields as well as the friction coefficient, couple stress and heat transfer rate have been presented.

  • Recently kriging model has been widely used in the DACE (Design and Analysis of Computer Experiment) because of prominent predictability of nonlinear response. Since DACE has no random or measurement errors contrast to physical experiment, space filling experimental design that distributes uniformly design points over whole design space should be employed as a sampling method. In this paper, we examine the maximum entropy experimental design that reveals the space filling strategy in which defines the maximum entropy based on Gaussian or exponential. The influence of these two correlation functions on space filling design and their model parameters are investigated. Based on the exploration of numerous numerical tests, enhanced maximum entropy design based on exponential correlation function is suggested.

  • In this study the influence of Bradykinin, a biogenic polypeptide, on the excretory function of the dog kidney was investigated, utilizing the clearance and stop-flow method. The results are summarized as follows; 1) Bradykinin administered intravenously elicited a marked antidiuresis. 2) When given into the renal artery, however, prompt increase of the urine flow, sodium excretion and free water clearance without significant change in the glomerular filtration rate ensued. 3) It was also effective during an osmotic diuresis with 10% Mannitol infusion, though the response was not so marked. 4) The stop-flow experiment showed that sodium reabsorption in the proximal tubules is inhibited by the infusion of bradykinin into the renal artery. It was thus concluded that the diuretic effect of bradykinin given intra-arterially results from the inhibition of sodium transport in the proximal tubules.

  • The stability of shallow cavities with an arbitrary profile is a difficult issue in geotechnical engineering. This paper investigates this problem on the basis of the upper bound theorem of limit analysis and the Hoek-Brown failure criterion. The influence of pore pressure is taken into consideration by regarding it as an external force acting on rock skeleton. An objective function is constructed by equating the internal energy dissipation to the external force work. Then the Lagrange variation approach is used to solve this function. The validity of the proposed method is demonstrated by comparing the analytical solutions with the published research. The relations between shallow and deep cavity are revealed as well. The detaching curve of cavity roof with elliptical profile is obtained. In order to facilitate the application of engineering practice, the numerical results are tabulated, which play an important role in tunnel design and stability analysis of roof. The influential factors on potential collapse are taken into consideration. From the results, the impact of various factors on the extent of detaching is seen intuitively.

  • Data mining is the method to find useful information for large amounts of data in database, and one of the important goals is to search and decide the association for several variables. The task of association rule mining is to find certain association relationships among a set of data items in a database. There are three primary measures for association rule, support and confidence and lift. In this paper we developed a association rule ranking function by decreased lift influence to generate association rule for items satisfying at least one of three criteria. We compared our function with the functions suggested by Park (2010), and Wu et al. (2004) using some numerical examples. As the result, we knew that our decision function was better than the function of Park's and Wu's functions because our function had a value between -1 and 1regardless of the range for three association thresholds. Our function had the value of 1 if all of three association measures were greater than their thresholds and had the value of -1 if all of three measures were smaller than the thresholds.

  • The nursing intervention for the prevention of the pulmonary complication and of the function lowering of pulmonary ventilation which emerge with high generation frequency during the nursing of operation patient is necessary for performing the qualitative nursing for operation patient. So, this researcher tried this study so as to obtain the data which can be utilized for the trial of nursing intervention, by grasping the effect that the deep breathing with Incentive Spirometer has on the function of pulmonary ventilation, analysing the factor to have influence on the function of pulmonary ventilation, and applying the effective method of deep breathing to the clinic. By making 42 patients who underwent the operation of upper abdomen after admitting G Hospital in Seoul from Mar. 7, 1991 to Apr.30, 1991 as the object, they were classified into the experiment group that the deep breathing was made with the use of Incentive Spiromenter and the comparison group that the deep breathing exercise was made without the use of Incentive Spirometer. And then, by measuring Tidal Volume and Forced Vital Capacity with Respirometer and $O_2$ Saturation with Pulse Oximeter at preoperation postoperation 24 hours, 72 hours, and 120 hours data were collected. The collected data were analyzed with of, average, standard deviation, x$^2$-test, t-test and ANOVA by SPSS. The result of this study is as follows : 1. As for the hypothesis that the function of pulmonary ventilation at postoperation 24 hours, 72 hours and 120 hours will be better in the experiment group that the deep breathing was made with the use of Incentive Spirometer, in comparison with the comparison group that deep breathing was made without the use of Incentive Spirometer, experiment group and comparison group didn't show the significant difference in Tidal Volume, Foreced Vital Capacity and $O_2$ Saturation at postoperation 24 hours and 72 hours. But experiment group and comparison group showed the significant difference in Tidal Volume at postoperation 120 hours (p<0.01). So, this hypothesis was supported partially. 2. The variables that there were the significant differences about the function of pulmonary ventilation in experiment group at postoperation 24 hours stastically were smoking existence (p<0.05), and the variables that there were not significant differences about the function of pulmonary ventilation were distinction of sex, age, anesthetic duration, smoking extent, body weight, surface area of body, existence of narcotic use, regular exercise existence, and past experience existence of respiratory disease. As above result, it appeared that the method of deep breathing with the use of the Incentive Spirometer is more effective for the function recovery of pulmonary ventilation, in comparison with the deep breathing without use of Incentive Spirometer and that smoking existence was the factor to have influence on the function of pulmonary ventilation. In the aspect of clinic, the trial of nursing intervention of deep breathing with use of Incentive Spirometer is expected. And, in the aspect of study, the study through various operative site patients about the effect of Incentive Spirometer use at the clinic will have to be confirmed.

  • Adverse effects in the measured gamma spectrum caused by radioactive statistical fluctuations, gamma ray scattering, and electronic noise can be reduced by energy spectrum denoising. Wavelet threshold denoising can be used to perform multi-scale and multi-resolution analysis on noisy signals with small root mean square errors and high signal-to-noise ratios. However, in traditional wavelet threshold denoising methods, there are signal oscillations in hard threshold denoising and constant deviations in soft threshold denoising. An improved wavelet threshold calculation method and threshold processing function are proposed in this paper. The improved threshold calculation method takes into account the influence of the number of wavelet decomposition layers and reduces the deviation caused by the inaccuracy of the threshold. The improved threshold processing function can be continuously guided, which solves the discontinuity of the traditional hard threshold function, avoids the constant deviation caused by the traditional soft threshold method. The examples show that the proposed method can accurately denoise and preserves the characteristic signals well in the gamma energy spectrum.

  • A method is proposed for the choice of the number of principal components in principal component regression based on the predicted error sum of squares. To do this, we approximately evaluate that statistic using a linear approximation based on the perturbation expansion. In this paper, we apply the proposed method to various data sets and discuss some properties in choosing the number of principal components in principal component regression.

  • We propose a cross-validatory method for the choice of the number of principal components in principal component regression based on the magnitudes of correlations with y. There are two different manners in choosing principal components, one is the order of eigenvalues(Shin and Moon, 1997) and the other is that of correlations with y. We apply our method to various data sets and compare results of those two methods.
