  • One of the main factors which reduces the efficiency of a sewage treatment plant is the Inflow/Infiltration(Ⅰ/Ⅰ) in the sewer First we must calculate the quantity of Ⅰ/Ⅰ via the investigation of each sewer to establish the reduction plan of Ⅰ/Ⅰ. However, in Korea, we apply the results of a surveyed sample to the entire study area to establish the reduction plan of Ⅰ/Ⅰ. This methodology just considers the total Ⅰ/Ⅰ for the entire study area but it does not consider the quantity of Ⅰ/Ⅰ for the individual sewer systems. Therefore, we may need the model to consider the Ⅰ/Ⅰ in the individual sewer systems and we develop the model to calculate the Ⅰ/Ⅰ that happen in urban sewer systems. We estimate the Ⅰ/Ⅰ of individual systems by the developed model and the estimated Ⅰ/Ⅰ are utilized as the basic data for the establishment of Ⅰ/Ⅰ reduction plan. The observed Ⅰ/Ⅰ for the entire study area is distributed into the individual sewer systems according to their defect states. Here, the weights of defect elements are calculated using AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) and we perform the uncertainty analysis for considering the errors using MCS(Monte Carlo Simulation).

  • In general, manholes installed as urban drainage facilities are a variety forms such as straight path manholes, 90 degree bend manhole, three-way combining manhole, and four-way combining manhole. In particular, the surcharged flow at a four-way manholes installed in the downstream of urban sewer system is the main cause of the urban inundation caused by the energy loss. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the flow characteristics and estimate the head loss coefficients at surcharged four-way combining manholes. The hydraulic experimental apparatus which can change the manhole shapes (square, circle) and flow ratios were installed to estimate the head loss coefficients. In the experiments, two inflows ($Q_m$, $Q_{lat}$) were varied from 0 to $4.8{\ell}/sec$ and 24 combinations were tested in total. The flow ratios $Q_{lat}/Q_{out}$ were varied from 0 to 1 for a total flow $Q_{out}$ ($Q_{out}=Q_m+2Q_{lat}$) of 2, 3, 4, and $4.8{\ell}/sec$, respectively. The variation of head losses were strongly influenced by the lateral inflow because the head loss coefficient increases as the flow ratios $Q_{lat}/Q_{out}$ increases. It was estimated head loss coefficients of the circular manhole is slightly lower than those of the square manhole. However, there was no significant difference of head loss as discharges change. The range of head loss coefficients at four-way combining manhole according to the change of the lateral inflow ratio was estimated to be 0.4 to 0.8. Also, the relation equations between the head loss coefficients (K) and the lateral inflow ratios ($Q_{lat}/Q_{out}$) were suggested in this paper.

The daily TN in-flow into the main stream of Nakdong river in 2003 shows also the highest quantity as 64.9 ton and the daily TN inflows in 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002 are 55.19 ton, 46.27 ton, 39.5 ton, 53.38 ton, respectively. The daily TP inflow into the main stream of Nakdong river in 2003 shows the highest quantity as 2.70 ton likewise and the daily TP inflows in 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002 are 2.17 ton, 1.87 ton, 1.60 ton, 2.10 ton, respectively The rate of BOD loads from each side main stream into the main stream of Nakdong river shows that the BOD loads of Keumho-river are the highest as the values range from 32.8 % (2002) ${\sim}$ 35.1 % (2003) and the BOD loads of Nam-river, Naesung-river, Hwang-river are high in the order named. The rate of TN loads to the main stream is also similar to the trend of BOD loads. The contribution of the TN loads of Geumho-river to the contamination of the main stream is also the highest having a range from 27.0 % (2002) to 28.8 % (1999) among the main side streams and the TN loads of Naesung-river, Nam-river, and Heachun-river are high in the order named. The rate of TP loads is quite different from the trend of BOD and TN loads. The TP rate of Keumho-river, however, is still the highest as ranging 58.6 % (2002) to 61.7 % (2003) and the river has the biggest portion (over 50%) of the entire pollution to the main stream of Nakdong river.

  • The Korea Academia-Industrial cooperation Society. The Korea Academia-Industrial cooperation Society. In Korea, the territory has east high west low type and the rainfall is concentrated in the summer season. A nation having these topography and precipitation condition like Korea has to basically needs support of hardware alternatives. However, the right places decrease gradually and the resistance of the public opinion for national water resources policy stiffens gradually. The climate change has an effect in water resources fields and has a close relation. In the present study, therefore, future inflow of Miryang multipurpose dam basin is estimated by using SWAT model applied RCP 4.5 and 8.5 scenarios of "Korea Meteorological Administration" and considering the results, the future direction is purposed to operate the dam. As a result, the rainfall pattern is changed from traditional peak form to flat form. The dam operation rule in accordance with changing precipitation pattern has to be modified from the conventional operation rule and a new plan has to be established to meet a situation.

  • The complementary relationship hypothesis for areal evapotranspirations was validated in the regional-scale area of multipurpose dam basins in Korea and the long-term water balances were indirectly identified. Annual actual evapotranspiration ($ET_A$) was assumed the difference between total annual precipitation and total annual inflow and the available moisture was assumed the total precipitation. The seasonally varying pan coefficient (kp) is estimated as the ratio of the $ET_{pan}$ and the evapotranspiration calculated by FAO Penman-Monteith equation ($ET_{PM}$). The complementary relationships using ground observation data of $ET_P$ and $ET_A$ in the multipurpose dam basins follow generally the typical pattern that $ET_P$ and $ET_A$ is complementary and converges to equivalent evapotranspiration ($ET_W$) under the extreme wet environment. However, $ET_A$ of Juam dam was estimated relatively greater than other basins and exceeds even $ET_P$ at certain range with high moisture availability, which can be understood as the results of possible over-estimation of precipitation or under-estimation of dam inflow. It is expected that the use of evapotranspiration complementary relationship for validating hydrological water balances will contribute to controlling uncertainties in estimating dam inflows during flood season in particular.

  • Nutrient supplying by a metering pump often produces the inaccuracy in the rate of inflow than expected. In this study, we developed the transpiration estimation system using the metering pump to measure the continuous supplying rate as well as to estimate the accurate transpiration rate. The system showed the stable characteristics by eliminating the fluctuations in the head loss of nutrient tank. The direct proportionality between the supplying time and the supplied nutrient solution was obtained. The exact correlation between the integrated solar radiation and the transpiration rate using the system was calculated, and correlation coefficients between the two factors were 0.98 in the NFT system and 0.92 in the aggregate system. This results suggest that the integrated solar radiation was an important factor to directly decide the supplying volume of nutrient solution in soilless culture system. The deveolped system using the metering pump in the study was able to control the supply of the nutrient solution to the crops adjusting to the variation of solar radiation.

  • Sihwa seadike is originally designed to control the water level In lake Sihwa. However the sluice gate is being operated everyday to preserve the water quality of lake. Due to the frequent operation of gates the bottom of drainage canal which is composed of weathered rock and soft rock is being scoured. Recently the bottom in the front area of apron was protected by putting underwater concrete. This study is carried out to understand the hydraulic situation for protection, and to estimate the trend of scouring by comparing between energy dissipation and registance of bottom rock. Annandale(1995) introduced the erodibility index theory, and suggested a criteria to judge the erodibility of rock through the relation between the erodibility index and energy dissipation. Determenation of erodibility index of rock is based on the results of sample core analysis, and the energy dissipation of flow is calculated from the estimation of total head on the scale model. These two values are plotted on the criteria, and the erodibility of rock is determined.

  • Jangchan reservoir is located in Okcheon county, Chungbuk province, of which watershed area is $29.4\;km^2$ from outside, and $5.1\;km^2$ from inside watershed, effective storage capacity is $392{\times}10^4\;m^3$, paddy area to be irrigated is 474 ha. To determine inflows from Keumcheon weir located in outside watershed on an optimum level, a repeated procedure which is composed of simulation of inflows to Keumcheon weir, setting of range of water taking at Keumcheon weir, simulation of inflows to Jangchan reservoir, estimation of paddy water from Jangchan reservoir, and simulation of water storages in Jangchan reservoir was selected. Parameters of DAWAST model for simulating inflows to Jangchan reservoir were determined to UMAX of 315 mm, LMAX of 21 mm, FC of 130 mm, CP of 0.018, and CE of 0.007 with absolute sum of errors in reservoir water storages minimized using unconstrained Simplex method because of no inflows data. Inflows to Keumcheon weir were simulated to $2,132{\times}10^4\;m^3$ on an annual average. Optimal range of water taking at Keumcheon weir to transfer to Jangchan reservoir were $0.81{\sim}50\;mm/km^2/d$, which were summed up to $1,397{\times}10^4\;m^3$ in 66% of total on an annual average. Inflows to Jangchan reservoir were simulated to $1,739{\times}10^4\;m^3$ on an annual average of which were 80 % from Keumcheon weir of outside watershed. Requirements to paddy water from Jangchan reservoir were estimated to $543{\times}10^4\;m^3$ on an annual average.

  • Severe muddy water problem has been the hot issue in Korea. Because of increased nonpoint source pollutions at Kangwon province, best soil erosion management system is required to reduce inflow of nonpoint source pollutions into the waterbodies. The USLE-based SATEEC system have been developed and enhanced for soil erosion and sediment yield estimation. However, the SATEEC cannot estimate soil depositions depending on topography in the watershed, while the USPED estimates soil erosion and deposition using sediment transport capacity of the surface runoff. In this study, the SATEEC and USPED were used to determine soil erosion hot spot subbasins. For this, 54 subbasins were delineated. In general, soil erosion hot spot subbasins were identified similarly with SATEEC and USPED. However, depending on erosion and deposition patterns in each subbasin. USPED estimated soil erosion hot spot subbasins didn't match those estimated with SATEEC. For some subbasins, much deposition was expected than erosion. This indicates that SATEEC estimated soil erosion values may be overestimated for these subbasins. Thus, care should be taken when understanding soil erosion status in the watershed based on USLE-based SATEEC results. In addition, the USPED results could be used to identify the site-specific soil erosion best management practices. If the USPED and USLE-based SATEEC are combined, it would help determining soil erosion hot spot subwatersheds in economic and environmental perspectives.
