  • To evaluate the applicability of inflow runoff model to reservoir operation in Korea, DAWAST model and TPHM model which are conceptual lumped daily runoff model and were developed in Korea, were selected and applied to simulate inflows to Daecheong multipurpose dam with watershed area of 4,134 $km^2$, and water storages in Geryong reservoir with watershed area of 15.1 $km^2$ and total water storage of 3.4 M $m^3$. Evaluating inflows on an yearly, monthly, ten-day, and daily basis, inflows by DAWAST model showed balanced scatters around equal value line. But inflow by TPHM model showed high in high flows. Annual mean water balance by DAWAST model was rainfall of 1,159.9 mm, evapotranspiration of 622.1 mm, and inflow of 644.6 mm, from which rainfall was 104.8 mm less than sum of evapotranspiration and inflow, and showed unbalanced result. Water balance by TPHM model showed satisfactory result. Reservoir water storages were shown to simulate on a considerable level from applying DAWAST and TPHM models to simulate inflows to Geryong reservoir. But it was concluded to be needed to improve DAWAST and TPHM model together from imbalance of water balance and low estimation in high flow.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze lateral inflow hydrologically. The IUH of lateral inflow is sum of the impulse responses of total cells in basin. This IUH bases on the Muskingum channel routing method, which hydrologically re-analysed to represent it as a linear combination of the linear channel model considering only the translation and the linear reservoir model considering only the storage effect. Rectangular and triangular basins were used as imaginary basins and IUH of each basin were derived. The derived IUH have different characteristics with respect to basin's shape. The storage coefficient of lateral inflow was also derived mathematically using general definitions of concentration time and storage coefficient. As a result, the storage coefficient of lateral inflow could be calculated easily using basin's width, length and hydrological characteristics of channel.

  • The objective of this study was to estimate the climate change impact on inflow to Namgang Dam using SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) model. The SWAT model was calibrated and validated using observed flow data from 2003 to 2014 for the study watershed. The $R^2$ (Determination Coefficient), RMSE (Root Mean Square Error), NSE (Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient), and RMAE (Relative Mean Absolute Error) were used to evaluate the model performance. Calibration results showed that the annual mean inflow were within ${\pm}5%$ error compared to the observed. $R^2$ were ranged 0.61~0.87, RMSE were 1.37~7.00 mm/day, NSE were 0.47~0.83, and RMAE were 0.25~0.73 mm/day for daily runoff, respectively. Climate change scenarios were obtained from the HadGEM3-RA. The quantile mapping method was adopted to correct bias that is inherent in the climate change scenarios. Based on the climate change scenarios, calibrated SWAT model simulates the future inflow and evapotranspiration for the study watershed. The expected future inflow to Namgang dam using RCP 4.5 is increasing by 4.8 % and RCP 8.5 is increasing by 19.0 %, respectively. The expected future evapotranspiration for Namgang dam watershed using RCP 4.5 is decreasing by 6.7 % and RCP 8.5 is decreasing by 0.7 %, respectively.

  • In nuclear thermal-hydraulic system codes, most correlations used for vertical pipes, under downward two-phase flow, have been developed considering small pipes or pool systems. This suggests that there could be uncertainties in applying the correlations to accident scenarios involving large vertical pipes owing to the difference in the characteristics of two-phase flows, or flow conditions, between large and small pipes. In this study, we modified the Multi-dimensional Analysis of Reactor Safety KINS Standard (MARS-KS) code using correlations, such as the drift-flux model and two-phase multiplier, developed in a plant-scale air-inflow experiment conducted for a pipe of diameter 600 mm under downward two-phase flow. The results were then analyzed and compared with those based on previous correlations developed for small pipes and pool conditions. The modified code indicated a good estimation performance in two plant-scale experiments with large pipes. For the siphon-breaking experiment, the maximum errors in water flow for modified and original codes were 2.2% and 30.3%, respectively. For the air-inflow accident experiment, the original code could not predict the trend of frictional pressure gradient in two-phase flow as / increased, while the modified MARS-KS code showed a good estimation performance of the gradient with maximum error of 3.5%.

  • To regulate cardiac output of the Total Artificial Heart(TAH) physiologically, the hemodynamic information must be toed back to the controller. So far, our group has developed an automatic cardiac output control algorithm using the motor current waveform, It is, however difficult to detect the preload level such as a filling status of ventricular inflow and the variation of atrial pressures within normal physiologic range(0-15 mmHg) by analyzing the motor current which simultaneously reflects the afterload effect. On the other hin4 the interventricular volume pressure(IVP) which is not influenced by arterload but by preload is a good information source for the estimation of preload states. In order to find the relationship between preload and IVP waveform, we set up the artificial heart system on the Donovan type mock circulatory system and measured the IVP waveform, right and left atrial pressures, inflow and outflow waveforms and the signals represented the information of moving actuator's position. We shows the feasibility of estimating the hemodynamic changes of inflow by using IVP waveform. fife found that the negative peak value of IVP waveform is linearly related to atrial pressures. And we also found that we could use the time to reach the negative peak in IVP waveform, the time to open outflow valve, the area enclosed IVP waveform as unfu parameters to estimate blood filling volume of diastole ventricle. The suggested method has advantages of avoiding thrombogenesis, bacterial niche formation and increasing longterm reliability of sensor by avoiding direct contact to blood.

  • Five parameters such as the entrance size of the front wall, conduit size, wave period, wave height and the width of water pool were selected to estimate the inflow rate, which is basic and essential input data to design seawater exchange breakwater with a submerged mound by conducting hydraulic model experiments. In the results of multiple regression analysis, log-log equation showed a good agreement rather than linear equation and the estimation of inflow rate was well done with only two parameters except entrance size of the front wall, wave period and the width of water pool. Finally, non-dimensional flow rate equation is derived.

  • In this research, we made a one and two-dimensional analysis of numerical data collected from the bend curvature of a bended river section. According to the result from the numerical analysis, the inflow & output angle caused a water level deviation which increased with an increase of the flood discharge. From the water level deviation of our two-dimensional numerical model, we obtained the maximum slope of 6,67% when the inflow and output angle was 105 degrees and the flood discharge was 500 CMS. As for the right side, the differences with the one-dimensional numerical model were reduced when the angle was more than $90^{\circ}$. As for the left side the differences were reduced when the angle was more than $105^{\circ}$. For a river with more than 90 degrees bend curvature, a hydraulic experiment would be more appropriate than a numerical analysis.

  • The objective of this study Is to supply basic data for large reservoir sedimentation research In future and make suggestions to maintain and opera능 the reservoir more of efficiently. At first, previous studios about the estimation of sediment yield rate were reviewed in Korea. And the discharge rating curves of upstream stage gauging stations and the correlation between dam Inflow and stage discharge were analyzed. With the analysis results, the spec유c sediment rate of Soyanggang dam was estimated as 608 m3/km2/yr. It was similar to that of Soyanggang dam feasibility study and 1994's field surveys of the reservoir than that of 1983's field surveys. Because the sediment rating curves were derived under the low discharge conditions, It needs to be checked under the flood conditions. However, the suggested methods such as flowrate analysis and sediment estimation will be useful to the sediment studios In future. Key words . reservoir sediment, sediment yield rate, rating curve, flowrate analysis.
