The purpose of this study was to develop a basic life habit scale for infant early childhood. The participants of this study were composed of 1,000 parents of children aged from two to five years old in the Seoul, Gyeong-gi, and In-cheon areas. For the purposes of data analysis, the study made use of the following methods : descriptive statistics for SES variables, item-analysis, factor analysis for validity, and Cronbach's a for reliability. Most items were acceptable in terms of item response rates, and item discrimination. The results of factor analysis uncovered six factors, and 46 items were selected from a total of 69 items in the original scale. The six factors were (1) safety and rules (2) neatness (3) manners (4) self-help (5) eating habits (6) cleanliness. Parenthood, the satisfactions it provides and the demands it makes, varies as life progresses : and changes with the parent's interests, needs, and age as well as with the children's maturation. There are phases in the child's life that the parents are reluctant to have pass, whereas they tolerate others largely through knowing that they will soon be over. The changing lives of the children provide many satisfactions that offset the tribulations, uncertainties, and regrets. The parents change. The young father, who was just starting on his carrier whom the first child was born, settles into a life pattern. He becomes secure with increasing achievement and interacts differently with the youngest child and provides a different model for him than for the oldest. The mother may have less time for a second or third child than for her first, but she may also be more assured in her handling of them. The birth of a baby when the parents art in their late thirties will find them Less capable of physical exertion with the child and less tolerant of annoyances, but they are less apt to be annoyed. The objective of this study is to determine the structural relationships among the infant's temperament, father's involvement in child-rearing, and the infant's social and emotional behavior. To this end, research was conducted with 330 parents of infants aged 1 and 2 in 55 day care centers located in J city and I city, Jeollabukdo. Frequency analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural model equation analysis were conducted using SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0. First, the results of the structural model equation analysis showed that the infant's temperament had a negative correlation with leisure and guidance, while it had a positive correlation with activity and impulsivity, which are external manifestations of their social and emotional behavior. Father's involvement in child-rearing had a negative correlation with the adaptability and mood aspects of the child's temperament, and also with general anxiety, an internal aspect of his or her social and emotional behavior. Social and emotional behavior had a positive correlation with the approach avoidance aspect of the infant's temperament. Second, according to the results of the analysis of the route between the variables, infant temperament was found to be a significant route, having a statistically negative correlation with father's involvement in child-rearing. The results of this study showed that infant's temperament and father's involvement in child-rearing had effects on the infant's social and emotional behavior, and suggested the importance of having a proper understanding of the educational implications of the father's involvement in child-rearing, in terms of its effects on the infant's social and emotional behavior.
Purpose: Safe sleep practices (SSP) are among the main strategies to reduce sleep-related sudden unexplained infant death (SUID). Daycare personnel must be knowledgeable and trained in SSP related to SUID. This study explored the experience, knowledge, and confidence regarding SSP associated with SUID of daycare personnel. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 395 staff members at 61 daycare centers to measure their experience related to SSP (10 items), related to sleep position and location, bedding materials, and other topics; knowledge of SSP (18 items); and confidence in SSP (1 item) related to SUID. Results: A substantial proportion (23.6%) of respondents used the lateral or prone positions for infant sleep. On average, 4.5 bedding materials were used for infant sleep. Participants showed a lack of knowledge about SSP as indicated by a 56.6% knowledge of SSP related to SUID correct answer rate. Personnel who received SUID education were more knowledgeable and had more confidence regarding SSP than those who did not. More knowledge and confidence related to SSP were associated with better adherence to SSP. Conclusion: Standard SSP guidelines should be developed based on South Korea's culture of childcare for educating both childcare professionals and parents at home.
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the recognition on center-based child care health programs for parents with ill children. Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study with convenient sampling method was used and 136 parents were recruited from two university hospital outpatient departments and hospitalized wards, and they completed a structured questionnaire. Results: Majority (57.4%) of parents experienced a leaving work early or being absent from their work due to children's illness. Most dissatisfying factors in child care centers were child health management. Most of parents agreed on the need for a center-based child care health program, and wanted a better management of health care by health professionals in child care centers. Conclusion: These results support that there is a great demand for center-based child care health programs. These special programs are needed for reducing a child rearing burden for working mothers and overcoming the low birthrate in Korea. Health-care programs in child-care settings can help parents meet the health needs of their children while reducing absenteeism from work, thereby contributing to job stability. These results suggest discussions of the related policy with child care centers responsible and national health and educational authorities.
The current study aims to examine differences of mother's child-rearing attitude by background variables of infant's and mothers, the influence of mother's child-rearing attitude, temperament and goodness of fit of infant's on adjustment to childcare center, and relative influence among elements. Subjects for the study were 165 infant's of two year old attending 8 childcare centers in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and Jeju-do, and their mothers and homeroom teachers at childcare centers. As a result of the study, it was found that there was no difference in background variables such as sex and order among siblings of infant's, childcare experience and average hours at childcare centers a day, and mother's age and job, while there were differences in mother's child-rearing attitude by mother's education, household's monthly income and mother's working hours per week. Also it was observed that mother's restrictive attitude, positive attitude and infant's regular temperament influenced their adjustment to childcare centers, and relatively influential elements on general adjustment to childcare centers were mother's restrictive attitude and positive attitude. That IS, it was found that as mother's restrictive attitude and positive attitude were high, infant's general adjustment to childcare centers became high. These study results show that if infant's learn basic rules and habits from parents at home by having positive relationship with mothers, getting appropriate educative instruction, having proper autonomy and obtaining positive assessment from their mothers, rather than strict restriction or bluff, can adapt themselves to childcare centers with no difficulty.
This study was aimed to evaluate any influence of environmental factors associated with feeding on infants' growth. One hundred infants(62 males and 38 females) aged 4-9 months were measured for length and were weighed. Their mothers were interviewed using questionnaires including general and environmental characteristics and maternal feeding attitude, ideal body habitus, infant's food behavior, and infant's food behavior, and infant's temperament. A further study was conducted on 29 infants at the time their ages reached 12 months. Their dietary intakes were assessed, and blood hemoglobin and serum ferritin concentrations were measured. Z-scores of weight-for-age(WAZ) and Z-scores of height-for-age(HAZ) of 4-9 month- old infants were not correlated with age, education level, income, weight, and height of their parents. Formula-fed infants had significantly lower WAZ and body mass index (BMI) than those of breast fed infants. WAZ was significantly correlated with maternal feeding attitude, but not with ideal body habitus, infant's food behavior or infant's temperament. WAZ of 12-months after birth because of supplementary foods introduced from 6 months of age. WAZ and BMI were positively correlated with blood hemoglobin concentration. Therefore, to ensure proper growth of infants, efforts should be given to postental factors such as breast-feeding, maternal feeding attitude, adequate iron status as well as prenatal factors. The purpose of this study was to investigate the experiences of accident and visiting emergency center, and the experiences of education about emergency care for parents. The subjects of this study were 117 mothers whose children are attending 9 different nursery schools or kindergartens. The instrument used in this study was developed by researchers and validated by nursing professor, first aid doctor and the president of nursery school, and consisted of 'most important thing in child rearing' ,'experiences of accident and visiting emergency center', 'type of trauma' and 'need for parent education program' the result of this study were as followed ; 1.There were 70.09% of the experience of visiting emergency center among the subjects. The cause of visiting emergency center were high fever and convulsion(42.86%), and trauma by accident(28.04%) 2. The most common type of the indoor accident were fall down and slipping(76.92%), the common type of trauma were contusion (76.92%), abrasion(47.01%), laceration(29.06%), dislocation or fracture(12.82%), burn(10.26%), piercing(8.55%). 3.47.01% of subjects had the experience of education about emergency care for parents. They were educated by child rearing journals (32.72%), small books which were published by hospitals or community health center (25.45%), mass media(21.8%), parent seminar (12.72%), nursery school or kindergarten (5.45%). In conclusion, the need of emergency care for children was strongly found. Therefore, on the basis of above results, the parent education program which fits their cognitive level and their health care needs So, it must be directed on the further study of parents' knowledge about emergency care for children. To enhance the effectiveness of program and accomplish the children's health promotion, advanced instructional media and demonstration must be included.
One of the critical themes in the language acquisition is its exposure to linguistic environments. Linguistic environments, which interact with infants, include not only human beings such as its parents but also artificially crafted linguistic media as their functioning elements. An infant learns a language by exploring these extensive language environments around it. Based on such large linguistic data exposure, we propose a machine learning based method on the cognitive mechanism that simulate flexibly and appropriately infant's language learning. The infant's initial stage of language learning comes with sentence learning and creation, which can be simulated by exposing it to a language corpus. The core of the simulation is a memory-based learning model which has language hypernetwork structure. The language hypernetwork simulates developmental and progressive language learning using the structure of new data stream through making it representing of high level connection between language components possible. In this paper, we simulates an infant's gradual and developmental learning progress by training language hypernetwork gradually using 32,744 sentences extracted from video scripts of commercial animation movies for children.
The purpose of this study was to investigate parental concern about infant's smartphone usage experience. The research participants were 6 parents with infants lived in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. The data were collected by focus group interviews. The results of this study revealed that parent's smartphone usage experience could be classified as "Everyday life" and "Supporting tool of parenting". And parental concern could be classified as "Uncertain educational expectation", "Developmental problems", and "Addiction propensity". This study could contribute to understanding the problems of smartphone usage of infants, and providing basic materials for parent education about correct guidance and addiction prevention of digital devices including smartphone.
