  • Dispatching rule for parallel machines with multi product is proposed in this paper, In current market, customer's request for higher quality is increasing, In accordance with such demand, manufacturers are focusingon improving the quality of the products. Such shift in production objective is risky. The possibility ofneglecting another important factor in customer satisfaction increases, namely due dates. From the aspect ofimproving quality, frequency of product assignment to limited number of high performance machines willincrease. This will lead to increased waiting time which can incur delays, In the case of due date orientedproduct dispatch, Products are assigned to machines without consideration for quality. Overall deterioration ofproduct quality is inevitable, In addition, Poor products will undergo rework process which can increase delays. The objective of this research is dispatching products to minimize due date delays while improving overallquality. Quality index is introduced to provide means of standardizing product quality. The index is used toassure predetermined quality level while minimizing product delays when dispatching products. Qualitystandardization method and dispatching algorithm is presented. And performance evaluation is performed withcomparison to various dispatching methods.

  • In the past, Manufacturers used to determine the quality of products, but the trend of today's market becomesmore into customer-driven. As a result, demands from customers are becoming more diverse and complicated, and most companies are obligated to meet their needs. As one of the effort to achieve their satisfaction, companies are now emphasizing activities to find out what customers specifically want and extract voice ofcustomer(VOC). This study attempts to develop an ergonomic product development process as a method tomaximally reflect the VOC. In order to meet this goal, ergonomic design guidelines, which are possible to beclassified according that user's human characteristics, will be recommended. Even now, there are numerousdesign guidelines already existing in the ergonomics literature. However, it is not realistically feasible to reviewall of those guidelines, and some of them are even conflicting with each other. Therefore, in this paper, theproduct development process, which prioritizes the human characteristics that reflect customer needs and appliesthe design guidelines that meet the most important ones, will be suggested. Finally, the research was described toshow the validity of the product development process through an example of a mobile phone development case.

  • We carried out aminolyses of various rigid polyurethane foams (PUFs) using diethylene triamine and studied application of the aminolysis products as hardners of epoxy resins. Diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A was used for the study on the curing behavior of epoxy resin with the aminolysis product employing differential scanning calorimeter. Curing reaction of the epoxy resin is generally known to be autocatalytic second order reaction. We found that the curing reaction of the epoxy resin with the aminolysis product of rigid PUF did not show autocatalytic characteristics but followed the n-th order kinetics. The activation energy of the curing reaction of the epoxy resin with the aminolysis product of rigid PUF made from sugar based polyol was slightly lower than that of the epoxy resin with aminolysis product of rigid with made from amine based polyol.

  • This paper proposes a fuzzy rule-based model as a means to build usability models between emotional satisfaction and design variables of consumer products. Based on a subtractive clustering algorithm, this model obtains partially overlapping rules from existing data and builds multiple local models each of which has a form of a linear regression equation. The best subset procedure and cross validation technique are used to select appropriate input variables. The proposed technique was applied to the modeling of luxuriousness, balance, and attractiveness of office chairs. For comparison, regression models were built on the same data in two different ways; one using only potentially important variables selected by the design experts, and the other using all the design variables available. The results showed that the fuzzy rule-based model had a great benefit in terms of the number of variables included in the model. They also turned out to be adequate for predicting the usability of a new product. Better yet, the information on the product classes and their satisfaction levels can be obtained by interpreting the rules. The models, when combined with the information from the regression models, are expected to help the designers gain valuable insights in designing a new product.

  • Minimizing the total number of setup changes of a machine increases the throughput and improves the stability of a production process, and as a result enhances the product quality. In this context, we consider a new product-mix problem that minimizes the total number of setup changes while producing the required quantities of a product over a given planning horizon. For this problem, we develop a mixed integer programming model. Also, we develop an efficient heuristic algorithm to find a feasible solution of good quality within reasonable time bounds. Computational results show that the developed heuristic algorithm finds a feasible solution as good as the optimal solution in most test problems. Also, we developed a web based scheduling and monitoring system for a zinc alloy production process using the developed heuristic algorithm. By using this system, we could find a monthly zinc alloy production schedule that significantly reduces the total number of setup changes.

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to develop a distributed representative human model(DRHM) generation and analysis system. Background: DRHMs are used for a product with multiple-size categories such as clothing and shoes. It is not easy for a product designer to explore an optimal sizing system by applying various distributed methods because of their complexity and time demand. Method: Studies related to DRHM generation were reviewed and the RHM generation interfaces of three digital human model simulation systems(Jack$^{(R)}$, RAMSIS$^{(R)}$, and CATIA Human$^{(R)}$) were reviewed. Results: DRHM generation steps are implemented by providing sophisticated interfaces which offer various statistical techniques and visualization methods with ease. Conclusion: The DRHM system can analyze the multivariate accommodation percentage of a sizing system, provide body sizes of generated DRHMs, and visualize generated grids and DRHMs. Application: The DRHM generation and analysis system can be of great use to determine an optimal sizing system for a multiple-size product by comparing various sizing system candidates.

  • It is certain that the future manufacturing environment will be network-centric and spatially distributed based on Internet. Today, wide variety of distributed computing and communication technologies are available for implementing a system for product data exchange and sharing. One of the technologies that have been received most attentions for product data exchange and sharing is Product Data Management (PDM). PDM tries to integrate and manage process of data and technical documents that are connected to physical product components. In accordance to previous researches about PDM, it can be regarded as an integration tool of many different areas, which ensures that the right information is available to the right person at the right time and in the right form throughout the enterprise. PDM with Web-enabled CAD system is proposed in this paper in order to acknowledge the usefulness of the system mentioned. The system will use Web service on Visual Studio C#.Net to invoke the web application system.
