The manufacturing of the solid fuel using wastes has been studied on the purpose of the reduction of green house gases and the profit-making as alternative fuel, and thus, it has become as technically improved as to be used as business. However, the production of solid fuel with multi-wastes combination needs a caution while the solid fuel with one-waste has not a significant component change. This study analyzes the solid fuel components through the practical plant experiment to the various wastes. The resulted data shows a different pattern than the theoretical one in the component analysis, and it can be concluded that the adequate uniform mixing has a great influence on the manufacturing of the solid soil.

This research was performed to investigate the generation and physico-chemical characteristics of municipal solid wastes. The results were as follows: i) The generation rate and bulk density were 0.157 kg/cap/d and 147.8 g/L in residential zone, respectively. In non-residential zone, the generation and bulk density were 1.71 kg/cap/d and 85.6 g/L, respectively. Consequently, bulk density of non-residential zone was lower than that of residential zone. ii) The wastes consisted of 90% of combustibles and 10% of incombustibles in residential zone. And the wastes from non-residential zone was composed 85% of combustibles and 15% of incombustibles. iii) Water content was estimated at 47~50% in residential zone and restaurants. In non-residential zone, except restaurants, water content was in the range of 10~30%. Ash content was nearly 10% in overall zone.
There are several steps such as slicing, lapping, chemical etching and mechanical polishing in the silicon wafer production process. The chemical etching step is necessary to remove damaged layer caused In the slicing and lapping steps. The typical etching liquor is the acid mixture comprising nitric acid, acetic acid and hydrofluoric acid. At present, the waste acid is treated by a neutralization method with a high alkali cost and balky solid residue. A solvent extraction method is applicable to separate and recover each acid. Acetic acid is first separated from the waste liquor using 2-ethlyhexyl alcohols as an extractant. Then, nitric acid is recovered using TBP(Tri-butyl phosphate) as an extractant. Finally hydrofluoric acid is separated with the TBP solvent extraction. The expected recovered acids in this process are 2㏖/l acetic acid, 6㏖/1 nitric acid and 6㏖/l hydrofluoric acid. The yields of this process are almost 100% for acetic acid and nitric acid. On the other hand, it is important to recover and reuse the metal values contained in various industrial wastes in a viewpoint of environmental preservation. Most of industrial products are made through the processes to separate impurities in raw materials, solid and liquid wastes being necessarily discharged as industrial wastes. Chemical methods such as solvent extraction, ion exchange and membrane, and physical methods such as heavy media separation, magnetic separation and electrostatic separation are considered as the methods for separation and recovery of the metal values from the wastes. Some examples of the application of solvent extraction to the treatment of wastes such as Ni-Co alloy scrap, Sm-Co alloy scrap, fly ash and flue dust, and liquid wastes such as plating solution, the rinse solution, etching solution and pickling solution are introduced.

The purpose of this study is to provide basic information for a future countermeasure municipal and to establish several wastes policy after investigating solid wastes from Sunchon City. In addition, this research can be supported to manage of recycling plant and to reuse plant of each wastes. Results are as bellows after checking up and analysis type of waste in Sunchon city Unit solid waste generation rate from single family is $0.50kg/person{\cdot}day$, and total solid wastes are 41.9ton/day. Unit solid waste generation rate from apartments is $0.45kg/person{\cdot}day$, and solid wastes generation is 55.5ton/day. Unit solid waste generation rate from agricultural is $0.22kg/person{\cdot}day$ and total solid wastes are 13.5ton/day. That show total amount of municipal solid wastes from residential are 110.9ton/day. Unit solid waste generation rate from traditional markets is $1.85kg/person{\cdot}day$, and solid waste total volume is 5,400kg/day. Unit solid waste generation rate from small store is $2.03kg/person{\cdot}day$, and solid waste total are 25,101kg/day. Therefore, this show that total wastes are 30.50kg from downtown and commercial area. Solid waste quantity from Industrial area (Factory region) is 8.5ton and in case of school and hospitals are 7.2kg/day and 3.0kg/day. Solid waste amount from Institutional is 6.6kg/day. Food wastes were eliminated from municipal solid wastes as standard 63.4ton/day, and combustible wastes were 126.9ton/day. If it schedule about 5 years (by 2006) as durable year for food wastes treatment plant, it is expected 42.5ton/day for treatment capacity. We can judge that it is effective to be set 2 lines equipment ${\times}25ton/day$ as treatment ability under considering unexpected working condition such as any repair, trouble and an electrical load. If it schedule about 10 years (by 2011) as durable year for food wastes treatment plant, it is expected 150 ton/day for treatment capacity. We can conclude that it is effective to be set 2 lines equipment ${\times}80ton/day$ as treatment ability under considering working condition such as low loaded operating and the repair for incineration.
The physical and chemical characteristics of solid organic wastes from paper and pulp industries, tanneries, and food processing industries were studied with regard to fertilizer value as well as humus sources as a rational method of waste utilization. The pulp and paper mill wastes containing low mineral nutrients but high lignin may be utilized for soil amendments through humus preparation. Chemical treatment sludges of tannery wast water contained appreciable fertilizer nutrients andiliming materials, but utilization as fertilizers or soil amendments depends on the pollution effect of high chromium content, which has not been well understood. Food processing wastes may be utilized as organic fertilizers or micronutrient sources for plant. Some wastes containing high water-soluble sugars or lower C/N ratio than 20 may be utilized as additives for rapid humus preparation.
An increased population and rapidly expanding industrial development have led to enormous amounts of various domestic and industrial wastes. The proper disposal of ever-increasing wastes is a growing global problem. Land treatment is one of the rational approaches that are environmentally safe and economically practical. It has long been practised in many sites. Recycling of industrial wastes on agricultural land can provide better possible means for maintaining environmental quality and utilizing waste-resources. Even though industrial wastes are beneficial as soil amendment and fertilizer, they have some limitation on land application because of wide variability as well as physicochemical problem in their composition. A direct application of solid and liquid wastes on land is being practised in Korea and some experimental results are presented. The direct application of fermentation waste on rice resulted in a 6 percent yield increase. Another organic residue from glutamic acid fermentation is widely used not only as a direct application as a liquid fertilizer but also for a raw material of organic compound fertilizer. These wastes are much promising as sources of plant nutrients, since they have large amounts of nutrients, especially nitrogen with few toxic metals. On the other hand, fertilizers developed from inorganic industrial wastes include calcium silicate, calcium sulfate and ammonium sulfate. The calcium silicate fertilizer simply produced from slag, by-product of iron and steel manufacturing plant is one of the most successful example of the conversion of wastes to fertilizer and slag production capacity totals to over three million MT/year. About 200,000 MT of calcium silicate fertilizer is currently applied in the paddy rice every year. Calcium sulfate, a waste from the wet phosphoric acid process is to some extent used as a filler of compound fertilizers but quite large quantites are directly applied for the reclamation of tidal flat.

The high Temperatures and long residence times in the combustion zones of cement kiln can use to burn liquid and solid wastes, such as fuel-wastes, sludges and tire-wastes. To the lastest time, treatment methods of industrial waste are incineration treatment, ocean dumping and land dumping. These are the main methods, but all of them may cause vatious kinds of secondary pollution, including air pollution and water pollution. From this point of view, to reuse the Reclaiming-Fuel in Cement Kiln is the most outstanding waste treatment plant in the world and dose not cause any pollution at all.

In recent years, problems of industrial solid wastes appear to be kind of national crises, caused by a sudden increase in their quantities, lack of disposal technique, and public discontent in installing plants for their disposal. This study is designed to investigate that pozzolana-based materials, such as blast furnace slag, fly-ash, paper sludge-ash, which are produced from industries as solid wastes, can be used as construction materials. The variations of concrete strength in function of compositional differences of raw materials including the wastes are studied experimentally. As a result, we find out that the blast furnace slag, the fly-ash, and the paper sludge-ash can be recycled as useful resources for replacement of cements by adjusting their substitution ratio.
In order to utilize incineration fly ash of industrial wastes as resources, we present the recovery and separation of metals included in the fly ash by leaching with aqueous solution A great quantity of Cu, Pb, and Zn as well as a small amount oftoxic heavy metals are contained in the leach liquor of the fly ash, and the concentration of the ingredients of the fly ash depends on the industrial wastes which are fed into incinerators. In this paper, sequential Ieachiog operations are conducted using $H_2O$, $H_2SO_4$, $(NH_4)_2CO_3$ and NaOH as Icachants. Water soluble copper salt was leached by $H_2O$, Zn and Pb were separated by the NaOH leach liquor, and water insoluble copper was selectively leached as chelate ion with the $(NH_4)_2CO_3$ leach liquor of the third Ieaehant. Results show that the reduction percent of the fly ash in the leaching steps using $H_2O$, $H_2SO_4$, and $(NH_4)_2CO_3$ is 77%, and the other leaching procedures lose the weight of fly ash by above 60%.
High temperature arc plasma technologies are recently being developed in Europe, Japan and United States as one or the treatment schemes of municipal wastes, industrial wastes and vitrification of low level radioactive wastes. An experimental plasma melting furnace, a transferred type plasma torch and 100kW class power supply have been made. Operation of this system and some basic experimental results for solid wastes treatment are reported.
