A Comparison of Operating Characteristics for Industrial Water Cooler with Variation of Control Methods (제어방식에 따른 산업용 수냉각기의 운전 특성 비교)

  • This paper presents a comparison of operating characteristics for industrial water cooler with variation control methods. The performance analysis regarding the characteristics of condensation capacity, evaporation capacity, compressor load, COP of an on-off type cooler, a hot gas-bypass control type cooler and an inverter control type cooler with respect to the system load is reviewed, respectively. The primary results are as following: the variation of required compressor load of an on-off type cooler with respect to load is 5%, that of hot gas-bypass type is 18% and 66% for an inverter control type cooler. As the result shows, an inverter control type yields relatively huge difference of required compressor load compared to other types of control system. In terms of partial load, COP of an inverter control type cooler presents the highest value, and is considered as the optimized type for the used of the system involving frequent partial load.

  • In this study the operational characteristics of the temperature control system between an on-offemployed cooler and a bypass type cooler is analyzed. Currently an on-off controller employed coolerwhich is the industry's leading type on the market for industrial coolers is used. The new type cooler isused a bypass controller at discharge gas. The COP of the bypass controlled cooler with discharge gas is at least 8% higher than the on-off controlled cooler. The maximum COP difference is about 20%. Based on the results, the bypass control with discharge gas shows the possible temperature control with high precision.

The Characteristic of Inverter Control by Variation of Refrigeration Load and Outdoor Temperature on Industrial Cooler (외기온도와 부하변화에 따른 산업용 냉각기의 인버터제어 특성)

  • This paper presents The performance analysis of inverter control type-industrial cooler with respect to refrigeration load and outdoor temperature. Aside from materials about simulations and foundation data regarding inverter control compressors, currently, data about commercial coolers with inverter control still lack information for performance comparison. Thus, in this paper, the experiments are done to see characteristics of condensation capacity, evaporation capacity, compressor power and COP with respect to outdoor temperature and load by using a commercial inverter control cooler model. As a result, COP difference of the inverter control cooler with respect to load is 30% at the outdoor temperature of $35^{\circ}C$, 29% at the outdoor temperature of $30^{\circ}C$, 34% at $25^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • This paper presents the capacity-control characteristics in an industrial cooler with a variable speed compressor. The inverter-type compressor is controlled by the rotational speed of the operational frequency. This type of the compressor performs the wide range of load compared to the on-off type. When the load of the system reduces, the rotational speed will be reduced. Thus, the system leads to the less power consumption and extends the longer durability of the compressor. With the variable rotational speed of the compressor the cooling capacity of the cooler is about 1.6-3.6 kW and the capacity control is about 40-100%. The system showed the highest efficiency when the rotational speed is about 45-70 Hz. The results can be used as the basic design data to control an industrial cooler.

  • The Korean summer is hot and humid, and air-conditioners consume considerable amounts of electricity. In such cases, the simultaneous use of indirect evaporative coolers may help reduce the sensible heat and save electricity. In this study, heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of indirect or regenerative evaporative coolers made from plastic/paper are investigated. The results showed that heat and mass transfer model based on the ${\epsilon}-NTU$ method predicted the indirect evaporation efficiencies, cooling capacities and pressure drops adequately. Both for indirect or regenerative evaporative cooler, the indirect evaporation efficiency increased with increasing dry channel inlet temperature or relative humidity. The indirect evaporation efficiency of the regenerative evaporative cooler was larger than that of the indirect evaporative cooler.

  • 신뢰성이란 단기간에 측정되는 성능과는 다른 지표로서 흔히 장기간에 걸쳐 평가되는 품질의 척도이다. Oil Cooler는 공작기계(machine tools)의 주축 및 구동부 등에서 발생하는 열 변형을 제어하는 장치로서 공작기계의 신뢰성 향상을 위해서는 oil cooler의 신뢰성 개선이 이루어져야 한다. 본 연구에서는 oil cooler의 신뢰성 개선을 위해 고장률 데이터베이스를 이용한 신뢰성 예측과 이를 통한 취약부품 분석을 실시하고 신뢰성 시험기를 통한 oil cooler의 신뢰성을 평가하였다. 이를 통해 oil cooler의 정량적 신뢰도를 계산하였으며 신뢰성호 향상을 위한 공정기법을 개발하여 적용하였다. Oil cooler의 신뢰성 개선을 통해 공작기계 및 반도체 제조 장비 등과 같은 제조 시스템의 신뢰성 향상을 기대할 수 있으며, 제안된 기법을 이용하여 다른 기계류 부품의 신뢰성 평가 및 개선에 적용할 수 있다.

Reliability Analysis of cooler in Thermal Observation Device (열상감시장비의 냉각기 신뢰도 분석)

  • The cooler, which is the main part in a Thermal Observation Device (TOD), makes the TOD function by reducing the temperature. As the cooler is imported, overseas enterprises presented 20,000 hours as the operation time and the military have used the cooler as presented. However, failures have occurred occasionally after mass production stage. Therefore, we need to analyze the MTBF of the TOD cooler. So, military and defense industry companies collected the failure data of the TOD cooler. We analyze the MTBF of the TOD cooler using survival probability function and failure data. We find the optimal distribution by applying parametric method and estimate parameters. We determine that the Log-logistic distribution is the most appropriate for this data. Also, we analyze the reliability per hour of the TOD cooler. The result of MTBF of the TOD cooler was higher than that of presented by oversee enterprises.

  • The objective of this study is CFD analysis of CPU cooler jacket. The ANSYS code using was for this CFD analysis. In order to analysis of CPU cooler jacket, many variables such as boundary condition, conductivity, mass density, specific heat were considered. This analysis results are compare to small inner size jacket and large inner size Jacket.

Oil Cooler Design Automation on the Cooling of Machine Tool Cutting Oil (공작기계 절삭유 냉각용 오일쿨러 설계 자동화)

  • The automatic design of shell & tube type oil cooler can be used in real industrial environments. Since the automatic design system is intended to be used in small companies, it is designed to be operated well under environments of CAD package in the personal computer. It has adopted GUI in design system, and has employed DCl language. Design parameters to be considered in the design stage of shell and tube type oil cooler are type of oil cooler, outer diameter, thickness, length of tube, tube arrangement, tube pitch, flow rate, inlet and outlet temperature, physical properties, premissive pressure loss on both sides, type of baffle plate, baffle plate cutting ratio, clearance between baffle plate outer diameter and shell inner diameter and clearance between baffle plate holes. As a result, the automatic design system of shell & tube type oil cooler is constructed by the environment of CAD software using LISP. We have built database of design data for various kinds of shell & tube type oil coolers. The automatic design system have been assessed and compared with existing specification of design. Good agreement with Handbook of heat exchanger and design dta of real industrial environments has been found.

  • Recently, because of the deterioration of the nuclear generating station and increase of the cooler and heater, energy problem is increasing. To save the energy, the free cooling system is developed. The free cooling system is that cool the water to use cooled air in winter and is used in industrial process or data center. Yoon check the energy of free cooling system with dry cooler in korea. In this study, the value of the free cooling system with dry cooler is confirmed through using the NPV that is economic evaluation. when temperature degree of the cooled water is 10, in Chuncheon and Seoul the value is the most high. When temperature degree of the cooled water is 20, in Ulsan the value is the most high. As the result, because the using the temperature degree of the cooled water is high in the industrial process, the free cooling system is advantageous in korea.
