  • The problem of jointly determining the optimum process mean and screening limits for each market is considered in situations where there are several markets with different price/cost structures. The quality characteristic is assumed to be a normal distribution with unknown mean and known variance. A quadratic loss function is utilized for developing the economic model. Methods of finding the optimum process mean and screening limits are presented and a numerical example is given.

  • This research made an actual study of the Internal Control Systems on medium and small business company located on Gumi industry area. From this study, we learned that work scope, approval procedure and proof documents are well prepared, but some problem of the lack of communication has arose and it should be more complementary. Findings from this study show that the materials and purchasing processes are generally well-operated, but the information-sharing and training related to materials code are still insufficient and require more complementary systems.

  • Stainless steel sludge is generated as a waste in the grinding process, and the possibility of recycling stainless steel is considered here. In this study, we considered the possibility of using the stainless steel sludge as metal powder for MIM or raw material for metal foam. For the MIM process, the metal powder will need some improvement, and flotation and spheroidizing processes of the sludge are necessary. For fabrication of the metal foam, untreated sludge can be used, and steel foam about 90% porosity is produced.

  • This paper introduces user intervention to control simulation states during the execution of a simulation for military engagements. In an engagement simulation, it covers both a discrete event system and a continuous state system. Thus a system for the engagement simulation can have numerous simulation states, because there are lots of factors to decide states of an engagement that are derived during an execution of the simulation (e. g. detection probability, moving speed, moving path, and so on). It means both a result and progression of simulations are important outputs. Configuration of an engagement simulation scenario and expectation of simulation states, though, is hindered by the number of generate-able states. In order to solve the obstacle, the engagement simulation system should be controllable by user intervention during a simulation execution. This paper is to define objects of user intervention, and to design control processes of defined objects.

  • The testing processes for VLSI finished devices are considerably complex because they require different types of ATE to be linked together. Due to the interaction effect between two or more linked ATEs, it is difficult to trace down the cause of the unexpected longer ATE setup time and random yields, which frequently occur in the VLSI circuit-testing laboratory. The goal of this paper is to develop and demonstrate the methodology designed to eliminate the possible interaction factors that might affect the random yields and/or unexpected longer setup time as well as increase the productivity. The statistical method such as design of experiment or multivariate analysis cannot be applied to the final testing floor here directly due to the environmental constraints. Expanded product data information (PDI) is constructed by combining product data information and ATE control information. An architecture utilizing expanded PDI is designed, which enables the engineer to conduct statistical approach investigation and reduce the setup time, as well as increase yield.

  • For general open queueing network models, the relationship between weak limits of queue lengths and waiting times at stations is investigated under heavy traffic situations. It is shown that under suitable normalization, weak convergence of queue lengths and arrival processes is a sufficient condition for that of waiting times, and is also necessary condition when the network is of feedforward type. Moreover, these weak limits for queue lengths and waiting times are shown to be simply related.

  • The globalisation of software production processes is a maze of connected phenomena with dramatically increasing importance as the development of W related industries and services escalates on a global scale. While commercial and industrial software production and related services are historically associated with advanced industrial economies of the North & West, contemporary changes of the past decade suggest that the industry is developing rapidly on a global scale incorporating countries that have historically been classified as '2nd and 3rd world' or periphery and semi-periphery by different theoretical approaches. • In this paper, a level set based energy functional is proposed, the minimization of which results in simultaneous reference background image modeling and foreground segmentation. Due to the mutual constraint of the two processes, a good estimate of the background can be obtained with a small number of frames, and due to the use of the level set, an Euler-Lagrange equation that directly solves the problem can be derived.

  • We review the modeling and simulation of fiber orientation during injection molding processes of short fiber reinforced thermoplastics. Generally, a group of fibers are described in terms of probability distribution function or orientation tensor. Various closure approximation models to express higher order tensor in terms of Bower order tensors are reviewed. Rheology of fiber suspensions, multiple fiber-fiber interaction and numerical technique for the prediction of fiber orientation are also considered for concentrated situations.

  • This paper deals with some fundamental matters pertaining to estimation of critical quantities associated with continuous processes which are frequently related to the quality rating of the product. Specifically, it examines bounds on estimation and bounds on the estimation error variance. It draws on recent results from the theory of mathematical inequalities and their applications.
