  • In these days, the people living in the urban suffer from the environmental noise because the number of cars increases in the city, and a lot of new industrial complex is made in the urban every year. But there is no suitable system for measurement and management of environmental noise. Therefore, in this research, a new system for the measurement and characteristic analysis, evaluation, management of environmental noise using Internet communication is developed. The system includes the environmental noise measurement equipment and the controller for the noise measurement and analysis, evaluation, management.

  • This study is concerned with the reduction of noise radiation by an industrial fan unit. First, spectral decomposition method is used to decompose the spectrogram obtained in experiments into source function and noise transfer function, and then major noise generation sources are investigated. Among the noise sources involved in the fan unit. this article is focused on the noise source due to vibration of panels of the unit housing. It is shown here that noise radiation associated with the panel vibration can be as significant in some frequency ranges as that associated with other noise sources such as aeroacoustic fan noise.

Prediction of Industrial Noise Propagation Subjected to Ground Effect (지표면의 반사특성을 고려한 환경소음 예측)

  • The analytical model of the ground wave can be used for the prediction of the noise level from a source above a plain and homogeneous ground surface with no obstacles nearby. Sound propagation along the surface of the ground can be affected by the roughness of the ground surface and the direction of the wind. The effects of the ground surface and the wind can be formulated in terms of the ground coefficient and the noise source parameter. Upward and downward conditions can also be addressed by considering the direction of the wind. The ground coefficient and the noise source parameter are estimated using the measured noise levels of two points under particular environmental condition, and the noise levels of arbitrary points under the same environmental condition can be estimated. The proposed method can be utilized to estimate the noise level of specific noise environment and its validity was confirmed with the results of actual field measurement.

  • In this study, noise sources of a reducer which is combined a spiral bevel gear and a planocentric gear are identified by experimental method and the noise was reduced by the structure modification of the reducer. In order to identify the noise sources, noise and vibration signals were measured by microphone and accelerometer and these signals were analyzed with waterfall plot. In addition, the frequency response functions were obtained to prove the noise and vibration sources. It was found that the resonance was generated by the gear mesh frequencies and natural frequency of the reducer. The noise of the reducer could be reduced by structure modification.

  • Axial fans are very useful cooling devices being widely used in many electric and industrial machinery. However those are often accompanying annoying noise. Many efforts have been devoted in order to reduce the fan noise. In this study, the procedure was devided into two major parts in considering effects of design parameters of axial fan concerned with noise ; the fan theory and the Fukano's fan noise study. By using the fan theory we defined stagger angle, camber angle, blade inlet and outlet angle for studying low noise fan. Then the effects of such angles on the flow rate and static pressure were investigated. By using the Fukano's fan noise theory, the relations of the chord length, the rotational speed and the number of blades vs. fan noise are investigated.

Design and Evaluation of Noise Suppressing Hydrophone

  • This paper describes the design and evaluation of a noise suppressing hydrophone that is robust to external noise without sacrificing its performance as a receiver. To increase robustness of the receiver to the external noise, first, effects of location of external noise on its performance are analyzed with the finite element method (FEM). Based on the results, geometrical variations are implemented on the structure with additional air pockets and damping layers that work as acoustic shields or scatterers of the noise, and fourteen trial models are developed for the noise suppressing hydrophone structures. The results show that the effect of the external noise is most significant when it is applied to near the mid-side surface of the hydrophone housing. The external noise is isolated most efficiently when two thin damping layers combined with five air pockets are inserted to the circumference of the hydrophone housing. Overall, of the fourteen structural variations of the hydrophone, the best one shows about 87% reduction in the response of the original structure to external noise.

  • The environmental pollution by noise is recognized by the pollution source made it not only to carry out harm of the Quality of a life of people seriously in most countries, but was generated for most actual problems. The measure to such environmental noise must conduct first investigation which noise generating currently regarded as questionable says in what grade has resulted and the suitable measure by that is studied. The concern of the residents who demand such a comfortable living environment is increasing rapidly. Therefore, the three areas of Jeollabuk-Do judged that noise is comparatively severe was selected. It is going to grasp delicately the noise actual condition of a residential, semi-residential, commercial, industrial area.

  • X-ray fluorescence spectrum analysis method can be applied in many areas, including concentration analysis of RoHS elements and heavy metals etc. and we can get analysis results in a relatively short time. Because X-ray fluorescence spectrum has noises and several artifacts that lowers the accuracy of the analysis. This paper analyzes the characteristics of the noise of the X-ray fluorescence spectrum to increase the accuracy of analysis. X-ray fluorescence spectrum have the characteristics of shot noise (Poisson noise), so the noise size is relatively large in the small signal portion and the noise the size is relatively small in the large part of the signal. Existing methods of analysis and to remove noises is a method for general purposes algorithm. Since these algorithm does not reflect these noise characteristics, we get distorted analysis result. We can design efficient noise remove algorithm based on the accurate noise analysis method, and we expect high accuracy results of the elemental concentration analysis result.

A Study on Three-Dimensional Flow Analysis and Noise Source of Sirocco Fan (시로코 팬의 3차원 유동해석 및 소음원에 관한 연구)

  • This study examined the flow and noise inside a sirocco fan for ventilation as a commercial program. To confirm only the location and power of the noise source, flow analysis was performed with steady state flow analysis. Through flow analysis, the flow was observed in the sirocco fan and the velocity vector. The pressure distribution inside was observed with contours. From the results of steady analysis, the position and size of the noise source could be seen using the 'Curle surface acoustic power' and 'Proudman acoustic power'. The Curle surface acoustic power can be used to observe the noise from the surface. The Proudman acoustic power can be used to detect noise generated in the flow region because the position and size of the noise source generated inside the sirocco fan can be seen only in the steady state. Therefore it is necessary to further analyze the unsteady state to check the frequency of the noise generated. This study provides basic data for improving the performance of the Sirocco fan and reducing the noise.
