  • This paper proposes a novel current control scheme for vector-controlled induction machine (IM) drives in the overmodulation (OVM) range, with which the voltage utilization of the voltage-source inverter (VSI) can be maximized. In the OVM region, the original voltage reference is modified by changing its magnitude and angle, which causes the motor current to be distorted, resulting in a deterioration of the current control performance. To meet with this situation, the harmonic components in the feedback currents should be eliminated before being input to the PI current controllers. For this, a composite observer is applied to extract the fundamental and harmonic components from the distorted currents, which gives a good performance without a delay and the effect of a fundamental frequency variation. In addition, through a detailed analysis of the response of the PI current controllers in the OVM range, the effectiveness of using the composite observer is demonstrated. Simulation and experimental results for a 3-kW induction motor drive are shown to verify the validity of the proposed method.

  • This study conducted experiments to measure air currents in an experimental building according to external conditions, types of induction ducts, and types of internal sockets by applying an external induction duct comprised of inducing openings and lines and induction units to the kitchen and bathroom vents at the rooftop of a super high-rise apartment building in order to help to improve the venting performance. The study also proposed the optimization of the external induction-style kitchen and bathroom vents capable of wind power generation. (1) As for air current distribution according to vent velocity changes, it increased the venting performance of the kitchen and bathroom by 1.0m/s at vent velocity of 2.0m/s or higher and allowed for wind power generation. (2)As for air current distribution according to external velocity changes, it increased the venting performance of the kitchen and bathroom by 1.2m/s at external velocity of 2.0m/s or higher and allowed for wind power generation. (3)As for air current distribution according to wind direction changes($0{\sim}180^{\circ}$), it was favorable for higher vent velocity when the angle between the external induction duct direction and prevailing wind direction was within ${\pm}30^{\circ}$. (4)As for air current distribution according to induction duct type, the[M1] type combining the inducing openings and lines with the induction units recorded the highest improvement effects in the kitchen and bathroom venting performance by increasing vent velocity by 46%. (5)As for air current distribution according to the changing types of internal sockets where the main ducts of the kitchen and bathroom are connected to the external induction ducts, the venturi tube type[Sv] increased vent velocity by 66% based on the smoothest external inflow.

  • This paper proposes the influences of harmonic current on electrical characteristics of an induction motor. Recently, a power system gets more worse as nonlinear load makes harmonics to affect energy lose of system and shorten lift of machines. In this paper, the electrical effect and THD(Total Harmonic Distortion) of harmonic current to an induction motor which is of great use in the industrial fields are measured and analyzed. A power conversion equipment(inverter) is installed to produce harmonics and variable reactors are installed to reduce the harmonics having an effect on the input terminal. Then the effects of the reactors are measured and analyzed. Also average voltage, current, power and 110 by harmonics are analyzed. The results show that Inn is increased by increasing load of the induction motor and installing reactors. And the harmonics affecting the input terminal are decreased by increasing reactor 3[mH] to 6[mH], however, average power of the induction motor is decreased. Therefore, it is very important that reactors should be carefully installed considering the merits and demerits resulting from the installation of reactors.

  • In this paper, the Sliding Mode Controller is applied to reduce the starting current of the single phase induction motor. The input voltage to the single phase induction motor is controlled so that the starting current of the motor may be maintained within the rating value and the velocity is also controlled, by adjusting the switching function of the Sliding Mode Controller. The switching of sliding control made appropriately with regard to velocity error signal and acceleration signal. It is shown that the starting characteristics of the single phase induction motor(SPIM) can be greatly enhanced through the sliding control of single phase induction motor.

  • The western route of KEPCO's 765kV transmission line has been tentatively operating as 345kV voltage before commercial operation. After finishing the test operation of 765kV substation in 2002. KEPCO decided to operate the 765kV line for commercial operation. During the applying of 765kV voltage to the transmission line, double circuit transmission line will be operated with two voltage grades of 765kV and 345kV. Because the earthing switch is installed on both end of transmission line, we had estimated the electrostatic induction voltage and electromagnetic induction current before the line energizing in order to confirm the ratings of earthing switch. The induced voltage and current is very important for the maintenance of parallel circuit. This paper describes the simulation study of electrical phenomena such as electrostatic induction voltage from the parallel line and electromagnetic induction current from the parallel circuit. The transmission line model was developed by EMTP (Electro-Magnetic Transient Program).

  • A large-capacity wireless power system is a technology that transmits electric power of kW or more in a noncontact type. Electric cars, electric buses, and electric railways. In order to increase the power transmission efficiency, a resonance method using a frequency of kHz is applied and the efficiency is 80 ~ 90%. In this case, the loss is 10 ~ 20% other than efficiency, and corresponds to several hundreds of W to several kW in kW class wireless power transmission. 35 kW wireless feed system environment, and induced current in the nearby conductive part was measured. As a result of analysis, it was confirmed that induction phenomenon is higher as the loop configuration of the conductive part per area is dense. The increase of the induced current in the mesh loop is characterized by the density of the nearby conductive part having a permeability per unit area. The concentration of the magnetic field by the permeability is increased and the induction phenomenon causing the induction current is increased. It was confirmed that induction phenomenon increases by about 2.7 times when 9 times dense structure is formed.

  • The development of the frequency convertors using semiconductors devices makes it possible to control the speed of A.C. motors easily. It is now economically feasible to provide them with power at adjustble frequency using silicon-controlled rectifier (or thyristor) inverters. In such a case, in order to operate an induction motor efficiently over a wide speed range, it must be supplied from a variable frecuency source of which frequency is adjustable over the speep range of the motor. It is desired to observe the changes in characteristics as primary current, torque-speed of induction moter etc. at any optional frequncy. Although the charactheristies can be obtained by means of the conventional methods they require very complicated precedures of calcuations. The Current Diagram Method in this paper suggests a new approach to simpler calcuations of the characteristics, using the motor constants at reference frequency. The conclusions of this study are summarized as follows: (1) The equations of stator current at adjusted frequency were derived to construct graphical chart and the current circle required for the Current Diagrm Method. (2) The radius, center of the current circle and the vector locus, the basis for calculating the characteristics, at any desired frequency could be easily determined with the aid of both the derived graphical chart and current circle at reference frequency. (3) The method was shown to be applicable to the various types of 3-phase induction motors and also dealt with its application to the split-phase, condenser motors.

  • This paper introduces two different types of AC current control methods for an indirect vector controlled induction motor using a matrix converter. The proposed methods combine the advantages of matrix converters with the advantages of the indirect vector AC current control methods. The first proposed method explains the basic idea of the hysteresis current control method for matrix converters and shows its capability and stability in comparison to the conventional method usually used for VSI. With the aid of the special configuration of the matrix converter, we also propose another current method which is modified from the first one in order to reduce both current ripple and torque ripple. Simulation results have verified the feasibility and the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

  • The induction motor is widely used in the power equipments of the ship and the various industrial drive applications because it is robust and relatively simple and cheap to manufacture, but it has a disadvantage that the speed of induction motor is not controlled in wide range such as d.c motor. In this paper, the characteristics relating to the Kramer system that the speed of three phase wound type induction motor is controlled by changing the exciting e.m.f. of the secondary circuit is described. In order to analyze the characteristics, a new simplified and approximated T-type equivalent circuit from the Kramer circuit with three phase graetz connection and d.c machine is proposed. The stator current, motor torque and mechanical output power are computed by the current, torque and power equations derived by its equivalent circuit. Through the experiments, the $I_f-N$, torque-slip and current-slip characteristic curves of the tested motor are obtained and the various needed constants are determined. The numerical values obtained from the above method are compared with experimental values under the same conditions. As a result of the above investigation, it is found that the induction motor speed by the Kramer system is controlled by 28 per cent under the rated speed by changing the field current of d.c motor and the values computed by the current and torque equations derived by the simplified and approximated T-type equivalent circuit generally come to approach the experimental values.
