  • To reduce the size and cost of motor driving systems, several methods for driving multiple parallel-connected motors with a single inverter have been proposed. However, dual PMSMs driven by a single inverter, unlike induction motors, have a problem with instability due to system resonance caused by disturbances such as load imbalance and tolerances between two motors. To drive dual SPMSMs fed by a single inverter, this paper proposes an active damping algorithm to effectively suppress resonance by using one-sided sensorless speed control and position difference estimation. By deriving rotor position difference from d-q current differences between two motors, the proposed method is affected less by position difference estimation errors and is simpler than dual sensorless position estimation.

  • Real time communication is very important in factory automation system using FieldBus. In this paper, we Propose the method to drive dual motors with one controller using CAN In traditional induction motor control technique, two independent Inverters are used to drive dual motors independently. In this case, two controllers are needed. Our proposed dual motors control scheme which use only one microprocessor has many advantages in the view of economic and performance compared to conventional technique.

  • In this paper, a new control scheme to use 6-switch inverters for 3-phase switched reluctance motors (SRM) is proposed. Compared with the conventional asymmetric converter topology, it can minimize the entire system size and cost and can increase the efficiency. Therefore, it may have a new topology for SRM to compete the other ac motors, such as induction motors, brushless dc motors, and soon. The validity of the proposed method is verified by simulation, and experimental results.

  • High efficiency standards are slowly being introduced with IE3 efficiency levels shortly becoming compulsory in many countries; IE4 efficiency levels being developed for future implementation. In this paper a review is carried out of the IE 60034-30 standard which covers standard line-start induction motors. Some design techniques that can be used to increase efficiency in order to meet the IE4 standards are discussed. This standard is now being replaced by the IE60034-30-1 standard which extends to other line start motors and also IE 60034-30-2 is being introduced to cover variable speed drives in order to address developing technology. The conclusion is that IE4 standards are obtainable but careful design is needed to reach this. Examples from the literature are given.

  • In this paper, a new speed estimation method of induction motors based on the very quick torque control is proposed to realize speed sensorless control. The proposed method can be realized very simply by detecting primary motor current and voltage command at every sampling time. As the method need not the differential value of primary current in a arithmetic of voltage command, it can be expected to promote the precision of speed estimation in low speed area, especially. Through the numerical simulation, the validity of the proposed method was successfully confirmed.

  • Rotor in small-medium induction motor has been usually manufactured by aluminum diecasting. In order to improve efficiency of induction motors, however, it is desirable that pure aluminum is replaced by high electrical conductivity copper alloy. For this purpose, a rotor is thixoformed with Cu-Ca alloy. Thermomechanical processing(TMP) is carried out to modify the semi-solid microstructure of the alloy and final microstructures and filling defects of thixoformed Cu- rotors are investigated. The characteristics of thixoformed Cu-rotor such as motor efficiency and torque are compared with those of Al rotor.

  • This paper is concerned with a position, control of induction motors using binary control. Due to the robustness and fast response, variable structure control is widely used for motor control field. However, the chattering phenomenon which is a drawback of VSC deteriorates the control performance and damages system components. In this paper, using binary control which has the characteristics of chattering alleviation and robust property solves this problem. The principle of binary control with inertial external loop and the design method of binary position controller are described. Also the control performance of proposed controller is confirmed by experiments.

  • In this paper, a robust sensorless vector control system for induction motors with a speed estimator and an uncertainty observer is presented. At first, the proposed speed estimator is based on the MRAS(Mode Reference Adaptive System) scheme and constructed with a simple fuzzy logic(FL) approach. The structure of the proposed FL estimator is very simple. The input of the FL is the rotor flux error difference between reference and adjustable model, and the output is the estimated incremental rotor speed Secondly, the unmodeled uncertainties such as parametric uncertainties and external load disturbances are modeled by a radial basis function network(RBFN). In the overal speed control system, the control inputs are composed with a norminal control input and a compensated control input, which are from RBFN observer output and the modeling error of the RBFN, repectively. The compensated control input is derived from Lyapunov unction approach. The simulation results are presented to show the validity of the proposed system.

  • Minimum Efficiency Performance Standard (MEPS) has already been operated in many countries. In particular, the European Union (EU) has entered the IE3 stage since 2017. Korea will also enter the IE3 phase from October 2018. As for Korea, there is still a restriction on induction motors only. But, in the EU and the United States, efficiency regulation of variable speed drives is being deeply examined. Standards related to this are gradually being fixed. In this paper, the current status and the direction of global standards related to the efficiency of motors, inverters and systems are reviewed. And the case of improving the efficiency of the system including the motor will be examined.

  • AC machines are in wide use in industry and d-q transformation from 3 phase of a, b, c is commonly used to analyze these kinds of machines. The equivalent circuits of d and q axis are, however, generally cross coupled and difficult to analyze. In this study, a modeling technique of AC machine including induction and PM synchronous motors using matrix vector is proposed. With that model, it can not only explain the AC machines physically but also make it simple to analyze them. The separating process of d and q components is not needed in this model and this model can be applied to analyze asymmetric motors like IPMSM machine. With this technique, the model becomes simple, easy to understand physically, and yields results that are the same as those from other models. These simulation results of the proposed model for induction motor are compared with those of other models to verify the method proposed.
