In the past, management had been done over nurses rather than nursing and this brought the existence of general manager and as a result, nurse-manager's position and role are being threatend. For the up-bringing of nursing to firm professional recognition in the 21st century, it is firmly believed that nursing managers are to be in the position to play the role of general manager with professional qualifications; personal qualities and exact understandings on the role and function of each tier group under her/his management. 124 top(3 nursing superintendents), middle-range(23 supervisors) and unit managers(98 head-nurses) from 3 university hospitals in Seoul were interviewed in order to investigate their belief in the role, professional qualifications, personal qualities as well as the strategy for the development of their leadership qualities. The frame of reference for the interview were developed by the researcher in reference to relevant literatures. It was the common belief that qualifications o[ top-managers and mid-managers require an educational background of master's preparation or higher and clinical career for at least 15 years for top-managers and 5 -10 years for mid-managers. The personal qualities required by nurse managers include; leadership, initiative, judgement, self-confidence, flexibility, open-mindedness and strong motivation. Achievment-orientedness would greatly help them become excellent managers. On the other hand, [or more effective management, managers of each teir group are to fully understand their role and perform "their job responsibilities ie. Top managers are supposed to study with emphasis on organization, function and conceptual s~ill while mid-managers concentrate their effort on the development of skills for direction, guidance and human relationship. Unit managers also supposed to have abilities to manage their function with emphasis on development of clinical performance skill, for direction on operative aspects. The strategies for the development of leadership qualities include program-planning at individual instutional level as well as local, national and international level. Nurse-managers are to be motivated and encouraged to participate in the programs in order to effectively communicate within tier groups.oups.
Background: A retrospective analysis of all cancer patients attending the radiotherapy outpatient department (OPD) of a single unit during the period of January 2005 till December 2006 was conducted to know the geographical distribution and incidence of the most common cancers, their stage of presentation, treatment compliance among the patients and follow-up. Materials and Methods: A total of 4,484 patients were registered in the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University during the period of January 2005-December 2006; of which 1,975 registered in an individual unit were included for the retrospective analysis. Results: Most of the patients hailed from the various districts of UP and Bihar. Females outnumbered males with a ratio of 1.33:1. Females mostly belonged to the age group of 40-59 years; whilst males were a decade older. Major cancer sites in females were cervix and breast followed by head and neck. Leading cancer sites in males were head and neck, brain, bone, soft tissue and lung. Most of the cases presented in advanced stage of disease (74%). Squamous cell carcinoma was the most common histopathology (56%). A significant proportion of patients defaulted after undergoing preliminary investigations (16%). Only 53.9% of females and 58.5% of males took treatment out of which 68% and 63% completed the prescribed treatment. Compliance with follow-up was poor. Conclusions: The outcome of this study will significantly help us to define region specific strategies needed for cancer management in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

There are many occasions that the performance of a corps is influenced not only by its own efforts but by the commander of the next higher unit in a vertical organizational structure. When the direction of the commander in the next higher organization is different from that of the actual evaluation agency, the unit under evaluation may get rated lower than what it should deserve. This study suggests an alternative method to evaluate the performance of military units in the situation that there exist critical environmental factors which affect the performance. This method employes DEA, a non parametric method, and Constrained Canonical Correlation Analysis(CCCA), a parametric method which is used to estimate a efficient frontier with multiple dependent variables and constraints. This article also exploits a set of categorical environmental variables in the CCCA to improve the fairness of performance evaluation. It is shown that the introduction of the categorical variables helps evaluating the true performance of individual units such as battalions subordinated to different next higher commanders.

Although the second driving device of KTX, which consists of the wheel and the axle reduction gears unit, is a mechanically integrated structure, its preventive maintenance (PM) requires two separate intervals due to the different technical requirements. In particular, these subsystems perform attaching and detaching work simultaneously according to the maintenance directive. Therefore, to reduce the unnecessary amount of PM and high logistic availability of the train, it is important to optimize PM with regard to reliability-centered maintenance toward a cost-effective solution. In this study, fault tree analysis and reliability of the subsystems, considering the criticality of the components, were performed using the data derived from field data in maintenance. The cost optimization of the PM was derived from a genetic algorithm considering the target reliability and improvement factor. The cost optimization was derived from a maximum of the fitness function of the individual in generation. The optimal TBO of them using the genetic algorithm was 2.85x106 km, which is reduced to approximately 21% compared to the conventional method.

Based on time dependent location data of mobile phone users, users' ODs were produced after tracing their travel route and inducing their origins and destinations. System considered average signalizing frequency, which means that the longer the travel length is the more frequent the signal is. This is a home-based OD and is limited to the Seoul Metropolitan area. The OD matrix from the mobile phone data which was aggregated to the cell and transformed to the 'Dong' area, was compared to the KTDB OD. The results can be analyzed and it was determined that they are highly correlated because individual coefficients are 0.98 and 0.85, the former between the OD of this study and the KTDB Si/Gun/Gu unit area OD and the latter between the OD of this study and the Dong unit area KTDB OD.
The focus of this study is to analyze between South Korea and China in terms of diversity in Management Information Systems research. As a result, there is herding phenomenon regarding researches in both of the countries compared to other previous studies. There also seemed to be lack of in-depth study of basic theories and connection to related field of study considering the broad topics of management information, unlike other international journals that pursue diversity in control referencing various methodologies, analysis units and many citations. Therefore, both South Korea and China should stabilize theoretical base of MIS through securing independent field of MIS along with founding the fundamentals by searching in diversified fields, methodologies and analysis units with focused topics. The upshot here is that with respect to diversity in MIS from both countries, to alleviate herding phenomenon, enforcing accuracy of data collection and reducing convenience pursuit should be implemented. Also as criteria to select a topic, different kinds of consulting concepts and taking social issues into consideration that helps tool development and analysis power should be done. Through varied methodologies, tool development and analysis power should be assisted and analysis unit should be shifted to organization unit for Korea and team or individual for China only to augment the accessibility. As a limitation for the paper is that the data used in this analysis is secondary data. In addition, although time period used in both countries were the same, object of analysis had homogeneity in Korean case while Chinese one having heterogeneity from 19 different journals. For the future studies, multicultural comparison or time series analysis and their comparison in deeper approach with regard to object of analysis and methodologies can contribute to further MIS diversity.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to construct the Organizational Effectiveness Model that explains and predicts the effectiveness of a nursing unit from the organizational-behavioral perspective. Furthermore, this study arms to develop a comprehensive organizational effectiveness model. Method : The subjects of this study consist of two groups: 455 nurses and 538 patients. Staff nurses who were employed and twenty patients from each ward in four university hospitals located in Seoul, Pusan and Kyungki were involved. Data were collected from October 4th to October 14th in 2000 by self-report questionnaire. Data were analyzed by the SAS for the general characteristics of the subjects, descriptive statistics, test for the reliability and correlations. Fitness of the hypothetical model were tested using Lisral 8.12(a) program. Result : With the findings from this study, duration of employment and the locus of control among the characteristics of the nurses, job enrichment among the characteristics of nursing job were direct or indirect predictors of the organizational effectiveness of the nursing units. Group dynamics in the nursing units and the characteristics of organizational behavior were mediating variables for the organizational effectiveness of the nursing units, and affect directly and indirectly on the individual outcome and group outcome to the great extends. Conclusion : Therefore, nursing managers ought to develop career ladder program and based job enrichment program in order to improve the organizational effectiveness of the nursing units. Additionally, programs to improve organizational effectiveness via improve group dynamics and characteristics of the organizational behaviors should be developed.

As application development environment changes rapidly, importance of user interface design is increasing. Usually, most of designers are clustering by subjective method of individual to define objects that have relativity in design interface. But, interface which is designed without particular rules just adds inefficiency and complexity of business to user who use this system. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an object oriented design model that allows for flexible development by formalizing the user interface prototype in any GUI environment. The visual cohesion of the user interface is a new set of criteria which has been studied in relation to the user interface contents, and is founded on the basis of the cohesion of the interface as defined using basic software engineering concepts. The visual cohesion includes the issue of how each unit is arranged and grouped, as well as the cohesion of the business events which appear in the programming unit. The interface will become easier to understand and use if the business events are grouped by their inter-relevance within the user interface.

Objective: The objective of this experiment was to investigate the effects of different colors produced by light emitting diode (LED) on Brown Tsaiya ducks. Methods: A total of 144 female Brown Tsaiya ducks were randomly allocated into three individual cage rearing chambers with different LED illumination colors as treatments. Three different treatments were: i) white color, ii) blue color, and iii) red color. The experiment periods were from ducks 21 to 49 weeks of age, determined traits included i) egg laying performance, ii) feed intake, iii) egg shell breaking strength, iv) egg shell thickness, v) egg Haugh unit, vi) egg weight, vii) serum Estradiol and Progesterone concentration, and viii) behavior pattern. Results: The results indicated that when compared with white and blue color, red color could stimulate ducks sexual maturation and raised the egg laying performance. The red light group was also observed to have the highest feed intake among three treatments. The blue treatment had the lowest egg shell breaking strength and the highest egg weight among three treatments, nevertheless, no significant difference was observed among three treatments on egg shell thickness and egg Haugh unit. The red light group had higher serum estradiol concentration than the white and blue groups, but no significant difference among treatments on the serum Progesterone concentration was found. The results of behavior pattern indicated that red light group showed more feeding and less resting behavior compared to the blue light group. Conclusion: We found a potential of applying red light illumination in the indoor laying duck raising system with positive results on egg laying performance and acceptable egg weight, equivalent egg qualities compared to white and blue light.
