데이터베이스 색인선택 문제에 대한 Davis-Putnam 기반 최적화 알고리즘의 성능 분석 (Analyzing the Performance of a Davis-Putnam based Optimization Algorithm for the Index Selection Problem of Database Systems)

  • In this paper, we analyze the applicability of a general optimization algorithm to a database optimization problem. The index selection problem Is the problem to choose a set of indexes for a database in a way that the cost to process queries in the given workload is minimized subject to a given storage space restriction for storing indexes. The problem is well known in database research fields, and many optimization and/or heuristic algorithms have been proposed. Our work differs from previous research in that we formalize the problem in the form of non-linear Integer Programming model, and investigate the feasibility and applicability of a general purpose optimization algorithm, called OPBDP, through experiments. We implemented algorithms to generate workload data sets and problem instances for the experiment. The OPBDP algorithm, which is a non-linear 0-1 Integer Programming problem solver based on Davis-Putnam method, worked generally well for our problem formulation. The experiment result showed various performance characteristics depending on the types of decision variables, variable navigation methods and ocher algorithm parameters, and indicates the need of further study on the exploitation of the general purpose optimization techniques for the optimization problems in database area.

Approximate Dynamic Programming-Based Dynamic Portfolio Optimization for Constrained Index Tracking

  • Recently, the constrained index tracking problem, in which the task of trading a set of stocks is performed so as to closely follow an index value under some constraints, has often been considered as an important application domain for control theory. Because this problem can be conveniently viewed and formulated as an optimal decision-making problem in a highly uncertain and stochastic environment, approaches based on stochastic optimal control methods are particularly pertinent. Since stochastic optimal control problems cannot be solved exactly except in very simple cases, approximations are required in most practical problems to obtain good suboptimal policies. In this paper, we present a procedure for finding a suboptimal solution to the constrained index tracking problem based on approximate dynamic programming. Illustrative simulation results show that this procedure works well when applied to a set of real financial market data.

  • Restiction of vertical and lateral accelerations is one of the very important requierments which has to be satisfied on the practice of automatically controlled flights of the civil aviation passenger planes. This goal could be achived on the basis of the optimization procedure using specilly constructed quadratic performance index. In the report the application of this procedure to the parameteric optimization of the control laws with known structure for autopilot of midium-size aircraft in the level flight model is demonstrated. Performance index is calculted on the basis of the controllability grammian. Results of simulation of control processes in the lateral and longitudinal channels sre represented.

  • A reliability-based optimization method for electromagnetic design is presented to take uncertainties of design parameters into account. The method can provide an optimal design satisfying a specified confidence level in the presence of uncertain parameters. To achieve the goal, the reliability index approach based on the firstorder reliability method is adopted to deal with probabilistic constraint functions and a double-loop optimization algorithm is implemented to obtain an optimum. The proposed method is applied to the TEAM Workshop Problem 22 and its accuracy and efficiency is verified with reference of Monte Carlo simulation results.

  • 유도탄의 유도제어시스템은 오토파일롯, 유도법칙 및 호밍필터 등의 다양한 제어시스템으로 구성된다. 기존에는 이러한 유도제어시스템을 설계하기 위해 이러한 각 단계의 제어기를 개별적으로 최적화하는 방식이 널리 활용되었다. 하지만 이러한 방식의 경우 각 단계의 최적화시 시간과 비용이 많이 필요함은 물론, 전체시스템의 관점에서의 최적화라 볼 수 없다. 본 논문에서는 최적화 툴을 이용한 유도제어시스템 설계를 위해 각 제어시스템 설계 시 필요한 성능지수 및 구속조건을 정식화하고, 이를 통합적으로 최적화하는 기법을 제안한다.

  • In the paper, the system loss sensitivity index that implies the incremental system loss with respect to the change of bus power is derived using optimization technique. The index λ reaches $\infty$ at critical loading point and can be applied to actual power systems for following purposes. 1) Evaluation of system voltage stability 2)Optimal investment of reactive power focused on minimizing system loss and maximizing system voltage stability 3)Optimal re-location of reactive power focused on minimizing system loss and maximizing system voltage stability 4)Optimal load shedding in case of severe system contingency focused on minimizing system loss and maximizing system voltage stability. Case studies for each application have proved their effectiveness.

Studying the Park-Ang damage index of reinforced concrete structures based on equivalent sinusoidal waves

  • In this research, the vulnerability of some reinforced concrete frames with different stories are studied based on the Park-Ang Damage Index. The damages of the frames are investigated under various earthquakes with nonlinear dynamic analysis in IDARC software. By examining the most important characteristics of earthquake parameters, the damage index and vulnerability of these frames are investigated in this software. The intensity of Erias, velocity spectral intensity (VSI) and peak ground velocity (PGV) had the highest correlation, and root mean square of displacement ($D_{rms}$) had the lowest correlation coefficient among the parameters. Then, the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm was used, and the sinusoidal waves were equivalent to the used earthquakes according to the most influential parameters above. The damage index equivalent to these waves is estimated using nonlinear dynamics analysis. The comparison between the damages caused by earthquakes and equivalent sinusoidal waves is done too. The generations of sinusoidal waves equivalent to different earthquakes are generalized in some reinforced concrete frames. The equivalent sinusoidal wave method was exact enough because the greatest difference between the results of the main and artificial accelerator damage index was about 5 percent. Also sinusoidal waves were more consistent with the damage indices of the structures compared to the earthquake parameters.

내구성을 고려한 하부 컨트롤 암의 구조설계 (Structural Design of a Front Lower Control Arm Considering Durability)

  • Recently developed automotive components are getting lighter providing a higher fuel efficiency and performance. Following the current trend, this study proposes a structural optimization method for the lower control arm installed at the front side of a Vehicle. Lightweight design of lower control arm can be achieved through design and material technology. In this research, the shape of lower control arm was determined by applying the optimization technology and aluminum was selected as a steel-substitute material. Strength performance is the most important design requirement in the structural design of a control arm. This study considers the static strength in the optimization process. For the optimum design, the durability analysis is performed to predict its fatigue life. In this study, the kriging interpolation method is adopted to obtain the minimum weight satisfying the strength constraint. Optimum designs are obtained by the in-house program, EXCEL-Kriging. Also, based on the optimum model obtained for the static strength, the optimization of Index of Fatigue Durability is carried out to get th optimum fatigue performance.

  • 강건최적설계의 개념은 다구찌 법에 근간을 두고 있다. 특히, 목적함수의 강건성 지수들은 설계변수나 파라미터의 변동에 둔감하고 보수적인 설계를 추구한다. 그 목적을 달성하기 위해 다양한 강건성 지수들이 소개되고 있다. 소개된 다양한 지수와 방법은 나름의 목적과 의미를 지니고 있다. 하지만, 다구찌 법에서 의미하는 강건설계의 의미를 목적함수의 강건성 지수로 반영하여 최적설계 문제로 확장하는 것에는 한계점이 발생할 수 있다. 본 논문의 목적은 기존 강건성 지수 연구들의 특징과 한계점을 파악하고 강건최적설계 연구의 고찰을 수행하는데 있다. 목적함수의 강건성 지수들의 특징을 확인하기 위해 결정론적 최적해와 강건해의 구분이 명확한 수학적 예제를 사용하여 평가를 수행하고 분석하였다. 더불어, 고찰을 토대로 강건최적설계에서의 강건성에 대한 새로운 관점과 상한함수를 사용한 목적함수의 강건성 지수를 제시하였다.
