배기계 형상에 따른 비정상 유동에서의 배기매니폴드와 촉매 입구 유동현상 해석 (Study on the Exhaust Flow Analysis of Unsteady Flow with Various Exhaust Manifolds and Catalyst Geometries)

  • In recent year, as the current and future emission regulations go stringent, the research of exhaust manifold and CCC has become the subject of increasing interest and attention. This study is concerned with the systematic approach to improve catalyst flow uniformity and light-off behavior through the basic understanding of exhaust flow characteristics. Computational approach to the unsteady compressible flow for exhaust manifold of 4-1 type and 4-2-1 type and CCC system of a 4-cylinder DOHC gasoline engine was performed to investigate the flow distribution of exhaust gases. In this study, through calculation, the effects of geometric configuration of exhaust manifold on flow structure and its maldistribution in monolith were mainly investigated to understand the exhaust flow patterns in terms of flow uniformity. Based on the design guidance resulting from this fundamental study, the flow uniformity of 4-2-1 type exhaust manifold demonstrated the more improved exhaust characteristics than that of the 4-1 type one.

  • The positron emission tomography (PET) has been used for the evaluation of the characteristics of various tumors. The role of PET in oncology has been evolved from a pure research tool to a methodology of enormous clinical potential. The unique characteristics of PET imaging make sophisticated quantitation possible. Several quantitative methods, such as standardized uptake values (SUV), simplified quantitative method, Patlak graphical analysis, and Sokoloff's glucose metabolism measurement, have been used in the field of oncology. However, each quantitative method has limitations of its own. For example, the SUV has been used as a quantitative index of glucose metabolism for tumor classification and monitoring response to treatment, even though it depends on blood glucose level, body configuration of patient, and scanning time. The quantitative methods of PET are reviewed and strategy for implementing these methods are presented.

  • This paper presents a robust optimal design method for a periodic structure type of MEMS resonator that is vulnerable to mode localization. The robust configuration of such a MEMS resonator to fabrication error is implemented by changing the regularity of periodic structure. For the mathematical convenience, the MEMS resonator is first modeled as a multi pendulum system. The index representing the measure of mode variation is then introduced using the perturbation method and the concept of modal assurance criterion. Finally, the optimal intentional mistuning, minimizing the expectation of the irregularity measure for each substructure, is determined for the normal distributed fabrication error and its robustness in the design of MEMS resonator to the fabrication error is demonstrated with numerical examples.

  • The structure of a power distribution system will change in a loop configuration such as in the case of a smart grid. If power distribution system changes radial to loop form, the structure may have to be changed significantly. Therefore, we analyzed the reliability indices and calculated a CIC(Customer Interruption Cost) for the loop power distribution system. The power distribution system reliability depends on the protection scheme. This study is applied to the current protection scheme method and is compared with each model. When the CIC was evaluated, most studies performed calculations only for sustained interruptions. However, in actuality, momentary interruption frequencies occurred more than sustain interruptions. Thus, it is occurred the CIC additively. Therefore, we evaluated a CIC including momentary interruption, for each model, and then compared with MAIFI(Momentary Average Interruption Frequency Index)

  • The objective of this study is to develop a general design and performance evaluation model for the system designers in the initial design phase of the integrated automatic manufacturing system based on the RAM(Reliability, Availability and Maintainability) and life cycle cost(LCC). The methodology proposed in this research includes the following two stages. First, a deterministic approach to the solution of optimal work station arrangement for the initial system configuration is considered under the assumption that the system availability is one(no failure and maintenance), and then a stochastic simulation model based on RAM and LCC is developed. Using the results of these two stage simulation, a system performance index(SPI) was developed for the performance evaluation of the proposed system. Also a computer program is developed.

  • The domestic power distribution system is operating in an open loop mode; however, it already has a loop structure. Power distribution systems must be changed for bi-directions power supply for smart networks due to a changing of paradigm in electric power industry. The simplest bi-directions distribution networks can make it closing of normally open switch. However, bi-directions power supply is very difficulty to be operated and there are many parts which it must study. This paper presented various models that are able to change a radial system for loop structures. Further, we compared the reliability index for each model by evaluating the amount of improvement reliability required in radial power distribution system. In addition, we calculated CIC(Customer Interruption Cost) for each model by comparing and analyzing.

Nonlinear Nutation Control of Spacecraft Using Two Momentum Wheels

  • In this work, the nutation control of rigid spacecraft with only two momentum wheels is addressed by applying the feedback linearization technique. In this strategy, the primary performance index is to regulate the nutational angle by the momentum control of wheels. The spacecraft attitude equations of motion are transformed to a general linearized form by feedback linearization technique, including a guaranteed control law promising the internal dynamics stability to accomplish the nutation angle small. It is proven that the configuration of inertia properties plays a key role in analyzing spacecraft energy level. The behavior of the momentum wheels is also studied analytically and numerically. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed nonlinear control law for the momentum transfer is verified by conducting numerical simulations.

  • Mach-Zehnder type GaAs elcetro-optic waveguide modulator has been designed in this paper.The modulator. Considered is based on the Mach-Zehnder interferometer configuration, consisting of two Y branch couping rib type waveguides formed in two epitaxial layers on GaAs substrate. The mode theory on waveguides and electo-optic effect of GaAs were utilized to determine the design parameters for the modulator proposed. Effective index method was applied to design the of waveguide supporting a single mode were calculated to achieve the optimized operation of the modulator.   • Photonic crystals containing multiple rugate structure are prepared by electrochemical etchings. Typically etched rugate PSi prepared in this study. Etching is carried out in a Teflon cell by using a two-electrode configuration with a Pt mesh counter electrode. They exhibit sharp photonic band gaps in the optical reflectivity spectrum. This reflectivity can be tuned to appear anywhere in the visible to near-infrared spectral range, depending on the programmed etch waveform. We study the method of full width half maxima and reflectivity index control by using amplitude.
