Structure and Heme-Independent Peroxidase Activity of a Fully-Coordinated Mononuclear Mn(II) Complex with a Schiff-Base Tripodal Ligand Containing Three Imidazole Groups

  • New complex $[Mn(II)H_{1.5}L]_2[Mn(II)H_3L]_2(ClO_4)_5{\cdot}3H_2O$ (1), where $H_3L$ is tris {2-(4-imidazolyl)methyliminoethyl} amine (imtren), has been prepared by reacting manganese(II) perchlorate hexahydrate with the imtren ligand in methanol. X-ray crystallographic study revealed that the imtren ligand hexadentately binds to Mn(II) ion through the three Schiff-base imine N atoms and three imidazole N atoms with a distorted octahedral geometry, and the apical tertiary amine N atom of the ligand pseudo-coordinates to Mn(II), forming overall a pseudo-seven coordination environment. The hydrogen-bonds between imidazole and imidazolate of $[Mn(II)H_{1.5}L]^{0.5+}$ complex ions are extended to build a 2D puckered network with trigonal voids. $[Mn(II)H_3L]^{2+}$ complex ions constitutes another extended 2D puckered layer without hydrogen bonds. Two layers are wedged each other to constitute overall stack of the crystal. Peroxidase activity of complex 1 was examined by observing the oxidation of 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline)-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of complex 1. Generation of $ABTS^{+{\cdot}}$ was observed by UV-vis and EPR spectroscopies, indicating that the complex 1, a fully-coordinated mononuclear Mn(II) complex with nitrogen-only ligand, has a heme-independent peroxidase activity.

Projection of climate change effects on the potential distribution of Abeliophyllum distichum in Korea (기후변화에 따른 우리나라 미선나무의 분포변화 예측)

  • Changes in biota, species distribution range shift and catastrophic climate influence due to recent global warming have been observed during the last century. Since global warming affects various sectors, such as agriculture and vegetation, it is important to predict more accurate impact of future climate change. The purpose of this study is to examine the observed distribution of Abeliophyllum distichum in the Korean peninsula. For this purpose, two period (present and future) climate data were used. Mean data between 1950 and 2000, were used as the present value and the year 2050 and 2080 data from A1B senario in IPCC SRES were used for the future value. Potential habitation is analyzed by MaxEnt(Maximum Entropy model), and Abeliophyllum distichum's coordinates data were used as a dependent variable and independent variables are composed of environmental data such as BioClim, altitude, aspect and slope. The result of six types GCM mean calculation, the potential habitability decreased by 40-60% of the average existing distribution. The methodogies and results of this research can be applicable to the climate changing adaptation stratiegies for the biodiversity conservation.

Motion-based ROI Extraction with a Standard Angle-of-View from High Resolution Fisheye Image (고해상도 어안렌즈 영상에서 움직임기반의 표준 화각 ROI 검출기법)

  • In this paper, a motion-based ROI extraction algorithm from a high resolution fisheye image is proposed for multi-view monitoring systems. Lately fisheye cameras are widely used because of the wide angle-of-view and they basically provide a lens correction functionality as well as various viewing modes. However, since the distortion-free angle of conventional algorithms is quite narrow due to the severe distortion ratio, there are lots of unintentional dead areas and they require much computation time in finding undistorted coordinates. Thus, the proposed algorithm adopts an image decimation and a motion detection methods, that can extract the undistorted ROI image with a standard angle-of-view for the fast and intelligent surveillance system. In addition, a mesh-type ROI is presented to reduce the lens correction time, so that this independent ROI scheme can parallelize and maximize the processor's utilization.

The Coordinate Conversion for Flight Dynamics Simulation (비행 운동 시뮬레이션을 위한 좌표계 변환)

  • A flight simulator is composed of engine, navigation systems and instrument modules. However, two problems exist here. First, the coordinate of each independent module is not same. To solve this problem, we design a method that mutual coordinates are capable of transformation each other. Second, the distance and bearing between two points on the earth are computed in a sphere shape using the spherical trigonometry. However, the computing time is very severe. In this paper, we project the sphere into the planar to reduce the computing time. An experimental result shows that the performance of the proposed method is excellent to both distance and bearing calculations in close region. Also, the computing time is reduced from $4.95{\times}10^{-4}$ seconds to $1.648{\times}10^{-4}$ seconds.

Optimal Layout of Vehicle Pedals Depending on the Types and Positions of Vehicle Pedals (페달 종류 및 위치에 따른 최적 페달 레이아웃 설정)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose an optimal layout for the accelerator and brake pedals in sedan and SUV, and also to compare the pendant-type pedal with organ-type pedal. 12 male subjects participated in the experiment, the subjects were divided into 3 groups according to height percentile(under 50%ile, 50%ile to 75%ile, over 75%ile). Independent variables were seat height (H30), X and Y coordinates of the center of accelerator and brake pedals and the x and y relative distance between two pedals. Dependent variable was subjective ratings for lower body discomfort. The response surface methodology using a central composite design was employed to develop a prediction model for lower body discomfort of each pedal. It is noticeable that the lateral position of the accelerator in all groups was not statistically significant. The optimal locations of both pedals were found to be distinct according to the percentile of subjects. X distance from accelerator to brake of both-type pedals is similar. But Y distance from accelerator to brake of organ-type is less about 2-3cm than that of pedant-type.

A Study on the Determination of 3-D Object's Position Based on Computer Vision Method (컴퓨터 비젼 방법을 이용한 3차원 물체 위치 결정에 관한 연구)

  • This study shows an alternative method for the determination of object's position, based on a computer vision method. This approach develops the vision system model to define the reciprocal relationship between the 3-D real space and 2-D image plane. The developed model involves the bilinear six-view parameters, which is estimated using the relationship between the camera space location and real coordinates of known position. Based on estimated parameters in independent cameras, the position of unknown object is accomplished using a sequential estimation scheme that permits data of unknown points in each of the 2-D image plane of cameras. This vision control methods the robust and reliable, which overcomes the difficulties of the conventional research such as precise calibration of the vision sensor, exact kinematic modeling of the robot, and correct knowledge of the relative positions and orientation of the robot and CCD camera. Finally, the developed vision control method is tested experimentally by performing determination of object position in the space using computer vision system. These results show the presented method is precise and compatible.

Calculation of Critical Speed of Railway Vehicle by Multibody Dynamics Analysis (다물체 동역학 해석방법을 이용한 철도차량의 임계속도 계산)

  • In this analysis, a method is presented to calculate the critical speed of a railway vehicle by using a multibody dynamic model. The contact conditions and contact forces between the wheel and the rail are formularized for the wheelset model. This is combined with the bogie model to obtain a multibody dynamic model of a railway vehicle with constraint conditions. First-order linear dynamic equations with independent coordinates are derived from the constraint equations and dynamic equations of railway vehicles using the QR decomposition method. Critical speeds are calculated for the wheelset and bogie dynamic models through an eigenvalue analysis. The influences of the design parameters on the critical speed are presented.

Analysis of Dynamic Equilibrium Configuration of Speed Governor (조속기의 동적 평형위치 해석)

  • This paper proposes a method to obtain the dynamic equilibrium configuration of a constrained mechanical system by using multibody dynamic analysis. Dynamic equilibrium equations with independent coordinates are derived from the time-dependent constraint equations and dynamic equations of a multibody system. The Newton-Raphson method is used to find numerical solutions for nonlinear algebraic equations that are composed of the dynamic equilibrium and constraint equations. The proposed method is applied to obtain the dynamic equilibrium configuration of a speed governor, and the results are verified on the basis of the results from conventional dynamic analysis. Furthermore, vertical displacements at equilibrium configuration, which varied with the rotational velocity of the speed governor, are calculated, and design parameter analysis of the equilibrium configuration is presented.

  • FORTRAN program PHYLS was developed to model the structures of 2:1 1M and 2M1 phyllosilicates on the basis of geometrical analyses. Input to PHYLS requires the chemical composition and d(001) spacing of the mineral. The output from PHYLS consists of the coordinates of the crystallographically independent sites in the unit cell, and such structural parameters as the cell dimensions, interaxial angle, cell volume, interatomic distances, and deformation angles of the polyhedra. PHYLS can generate these structural details according to the user's choice of space group and cation configuration. User can choose one of such space groups as C2/m, C2,and C2/c and such cation configurations as random and ordered tetrachedral/octahedral cation configurations. PHYLS simulated the structures of dioctahedral and trioctahedral phyllosilicates having random tetrahedral cation configuration fairly close to the reported experimentally determined structures. In contrast, the simulated structures for ordered tetrahedral cation configurations showed greater deviation from the experimentally determined structures than those for random configurations. However, if the cations were partially ordered and the sizes of the tetrahedra became similar, the simulated PHYLS may be helpful in various investigations on the relationships between structures and physicochemical properties of the phyllosilicates.

  • In solar power system, the height and azimuth of the sun are important parameters which control generated power magnitude. The tracking method that controls the daily generation magnitude according to latitude and longitude using the two axles is often used in the existing sunlight tracking system today. In this two-axle PV track control system, the self-load is concentrated on one FRAME. It is influenced of the regular load, snow load and the wind load, etc. It is difficult to set up the system in the conventional building. This research is a development about the small-scale economy track device of independent load-dispersing solar generation system. The position tracking algorithm is through the new coordinates transformation calculating the height and azimuth of the sun.
