  • In the experimental study, wire EDM was conducted for cold die steel by changing the Wire electrode, peak discharge current and number of finish cut. From the micro structure analysis of SEM photographs, the size of irregular welded and added component on the EDMed surface is decreasing and size of EDMed plane surface is increasing as the decreasing peak current and increasing number of finish cut. From the analysis of coating effect, Zn component is highly contained in Br and Zn Wire EDMed surface and copper component is highly contained in Br and Al wire EDMed surface. Hardness values are Increasing as the increasing peak current and decreasing the number of finish cut The value of hardness is decreasing as Cu, Al, Zn and Br wire electrode because of the residual austenite effect of solid solution copper on solidification, and finally EDMed surface has the highest hardness values for every wire electrode. Yield strength values becomes larger and bending strength values become smaller due to the increasing the hardness. These results are increased as increasing brittleness with hardness.

  • The effects of black rice powder on the quality of sausage were investigated. Samples were prepared with 0% (control), 1%, 3%, and 5% black rice powder. With increasing black rice powder content, the moisture and ash content of sausage increased, while protein con-tent was significantly less than that observed for the control (p<0.05). The fat content in samples containing 5% black rice powder was significantly less than that observed for other samples (p<0.05). With increasing black rice powder content, the pH of uncooked and cooked samples increased. In addition, lightness, redness, and yellowness decreased. With increasing content of black rice powder, emulsion stability decreased. On the other hand, with increasing black rice powder content, cooking yield increased. As compared to the other samples, those containing high content of black rice powder exhibited higher viscosity. With increasing black rice powder content, the hardness of samples decreased, while the gumminess and chewiness of samples containing black rice powder were less than those observed for the control (p<0.05). Moreover, with increasing black rice powder content, the flavor, juiciness, and overall acceptability of samples increased. In addition, the tenderness of samples containing 3% and 5% black rice powder was significantly greater than that observed for the control and sample containing 1% black rice powder (p<0.05). In addition to the economic benefits, black rice powder can be used to improve quality characteristics.

  • Microbial growth efficiency in the rumen was studied in sheep given hourly, 31.25 g oaten chaff with either 0.31 and 0.88 g urea or 1.88 and 5.63 g casein (exp. 1) and 33.33 g oaten chaff with 1.04 casein or 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 g urea or the mixture of the casein and urea (exp. 2). Concentrations of ruminal fluid ammonia increased with increasing nitrogenous supplements. Organic matter digestibility in sacco in the rumen was not different irrespective of N sources. Isoacids and valeric acid increased with increasing ingested casein but decreased with increasing urea intake. Peptide and amino acid pools in ruminal fluid increased with increasing ammonia concentrations (exp. 2) suggesting that proteolytic activity and transportation of peptides and amino acids across microbial membrane of rumen microbes may be regulated by the metabolite mechanism (intracellular amino acids and $NH_4{^+}$, respectively). Densities of total viable and cellulolytic bacteria in ruminal fluid increased with increasing ammonia levels but that of small Entodinia decreased. The density of fungal sporangia growth on oat leaf blades decreased with increasing ammonia concentrations but appeared to remain constant in the presence of casein. Efficiency of net microbial cell synthesis was 15-28% higher when ammonia concentrations increased from 100 to above 200 mg N/l regardless of N sources. In conclusion, supplementation of preformed protein had no effect on rumen digestion and microbial growth efficiency. This could not be accounted for its effect on ruminal fluid ammonia. Increased microbial growth efficiency with increasing ammonia levels may be due to a reduction in the turnover of microbial cells within the rumen.

  • Effects of frying temperature, kneading degree and ingredients ratio of sesame oil, syrup and sozu on quality characteristics were studied. Mixture experiments were used for the variation of three components. L-value was significantly high at $120^{\circ}C$ and was increased by increasing the kneading degree. a-value was increased by increasing the frying temperature, however there were no significant differences as the kneading degree was changed. Hardness of yackwa was increased by increasing the frying temperature and the kneading degree. Fat absorption rate was decreased as the frying temperature and the kneading degree were increased. Dip syrup absorption rate was increased by decreasing the frying temperature, however there were no significant differences as the kneading degree was changed. There were no clear relationships between color value and ingredients ratio. Hardness of yackwa was increased by increasing the amount of sesame oil and sozu and decreased by increasing the amount of syrup. Fat absorption rate was increased by increasing the amount of sesame oil and syrup. Dip syrup absorption rate was increased by increasing the amount of syrup and by decreasing the amount of sesame oil and sozu.

  • The performance of a domestic ceramic membrane with pore size of $0.1{\mu}m$ was evaluated to produce drinking water. A pilot-scale ceramic membrane filtration plant with a capacity of $1m^3/d$ was operated at the filtration flux of $3.0m^3/m^2{\cdot}d$ to investigate the effect of both backwash interval and pre-ozonation on TMP (trans-membrane pressure) increasing rate. The TMP increased with increasing the backwash interval. However, the application of pre-ozonation reduced the TMP increasing rate remarkably. When 1 mg/L of ozone was dosed with contact time of 5 min, TMP increasing rate at the backwash interval of 1 hr was reduced by 30%. This result indicated that pre-ozonation was very effective in reducing membrane fouling. There was almost no change in TMP increasing rate when the ozone contact time was maintained in the range of 5 to 15 min. Increasing ozone concentration up to 3 mg/L showed beneficial effect on TMP increasing rate.

  • Recent studies emphasize the importance of pivot stiffness in the analysis of tilting pad bearings (TPBs). The present paper develops a finite element model of the pad pivot and compares the predicted pivot stiffness to the results of Hertzian contact model calculations. Specifically, a finite element analysis generates tetrahedral mesh models with ~40,000 nodes for a ball-socket pivot and ~50,000 nodes for a rocker-back pivot. These models assume a frictionless boundary condition in the contact area. Increasing the applied loads on the pad in conjunction with increasing time steps ensures rapid convergence during the nonlinear numerical analysis. Predictions are performed using the developed finite element model for increasing the differential diameters between the pad pivot (or ball) and the bearing housing (or socket). The predictions show that the pivot contact area increases with decreasing differential diameters and increasing applied loads. Further, the maximum deformation occurring at the pivot center increases with increasing differential diameters and increasing applied loads. The pivot stiffness increases nonlinearly with decreasing differential diameters and increasing applied loads. Comparisons of results of the developed finite element model to those of Hertzian contact model calculations assuming a small contact area show that the latter model underestimates the pivot stiffnesses predicted by the finite element models of the ball-socket and rocker-back pivots, particularly for small differential diameters. This result implies the need for cautionduring the design of pivot stiffness by the Hertzian contact model.

  • In order to establish fundamental data for the betterment of Polyester microfiber fabric handle, a study by using fixed warp of ITY yarn samples with P/F, DTY, and ITY weft yarns was performed. For this purpose the samples of total 27 kinds were prepared. That is, each sample yarn was twisted in three ways and for each twisted yarn the fabric structures were modified in three ways, plain, twill, and satin. The examination was done by focusing on the point of the change of handles and the characteristics of the mechanical properties of the samples with the change of yarn and the fabric structure. The handles and the mechanical properties were examined with the KES-F system suggested by Kawabata. The results were as follows : 1. WT and MIU increased with increasing the twist. By comparing WT and MIU by yarn, DTY was higher than P/F. It appeared that twill and satin were higher than plain. 2. The bending rigidity change in DTY with increasing the twist was not significant, however in P/F it appeared apparently decreased with increasing the tlvist. Also, it appeared that when using P/F as weft the bending rigidity was higher than when using DTY and the twill structure appeared higher than the satin structure. 3. In shear force the increasing rates of plain and the twill were higher than satin. When DTY and P/F were used as weft, the shear force was higher in ITY and DTY than in P/F case. 4. Koshi appeared higher in the order of plain, twill and satin. When DTY and P/F were used as the weft Koshi increased with increasing the twist in plain, however in twill and satin it appeared to decrease. In hand value ITY(=7.5) appea.ed to be highe. than DTY and P/F(=6.5). 5. In all cases Shinayakasa decreased with increasing the twist. The hand values observed that satin was =4, twill was =3, and plain was =1.5. 6. Fukurami showed no significant change with increasing the twist in DTY, however in P/F and ITY it decreased.

  • Performance evaluation exposing the performance of structure is affected by the material and structural characteristics. these should be necessary for the analysis about the effect of structure performance. Thus, to evaluate the structural performance affected the material properties and structural characteristics, firstly it is conducted the eigenvalues analysis and non-linear static analysis of the structure, secondly it is analyzed the performance influence factor of the structure. The performance influence factors affecting the performance of structure divided into five classes(strength of concrete, longitudinal and transverse reinforcement, aspect ratio, axial force). From the result of analysis about the change of performance influence factor, the more the strength of concrete is increasing, the more the maximum shear force is increasing and the yield displacement is not changed, the more longitudinal reinforce is increasing, the more yield displacement and the maximum basis shear force is increasing, the more the transverse reinforce is increasing, the change of maximum basis shear force is trivial. The yield displacement of structure is increasing and the maximum basis shear force is decreasing by increasing the aspect ratio, the more the axial force increases, the more yield displacement and maximum basis shear force decease.
