  • Finish machining of a curved surface is often carried out by an NC system with curved interpolation in a high speed machining strategies. This study aims to develop the NURBS interpolator for the PC-NC based machine tools. In the case of a finish cut using a ball-end mill in high speed machining, low machinability at the bottom of a tool produces a harmful effect on surface roughness. The developed interpolator considers the relation between inclined angle, surface roughness, and feed rate, and adjusts real-time feed rate in order to generate surfaces which have isotropic surface roughness. The proposed interpolator is fully implemented and an experimental results are shown.

  • Si oxidation is a key process in developing silicon devices, such as highly integrated metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) transistors and antireflection-coating (ARC) on solar cell substrate. Many experimental and theoritical studies have been carried out for elucidating oxidation processes and adsorption structure using ab initio total energy and electronic structure calcultaions. However, the initial oxidation processes at step edge on vicinal Si surface have not been studied using the ReaxFF reactive force field. In this work, strucutural change, charge distribution of oxidized Si throughout the depth from Si surface were observed during oxidation processes on vicinal Si(001) surface inclined by $10.5^{\circ}$ of miscut angle toward [100]. Adsorption energys of step edge and flat terrace were calculated to compare the oxidation reaction at step edge and flat terrace on Si surface.

  • The Law method is observing the temporal bone. There are two types of methods: the double angle method, which manipulates the center ray angle of the tube twice, and the single angle method, which manipulates once. The purpose is to increase the reproducibility of the image by making vertical incidence by making an assistive device using a 3D printer. Two assistive devices with a wedge-shaped 8.5 × 10 × 2.3 cm, an inclined surface of 7.5 cm, and an inclination angle of 15° were fabricated. Assistive devices can be combined with each other in the form of grooves, and PLA (Poly Lactic Acid) is used as a material. In the first experiment, 10 examiners operated the tube 15° in the caudad direction and 15° in the anterior direction, and measured it with a protractor to conduct a reproducibility experiment. Second, two examiners acquired vertically incidence images using the existing law method and assistive devices, and measured the distance between each measurement point to evaluate the reproducibility. The tube center ray angle reproducibility experiment was not statistically significant, but the angle difference was up to 9° between examiners. The reproducibility experiment of radiographic images was not statistically significant with the conventional method, and the method using an assistive device was statistically significant. Therefore, regardless of skill level, an image capable of securing reproducibility, which is the advantage of vertical incidence, could be obtained.

  • After a severe accident to the nuclear reactor, the in-vessel retention strategy is a key way to prevent the leakage of radioactive material. Nanofluid is a steady suspension used to improve heat-transfer characteristics of working fluids, formed by adding solid particles with diameters below 100nm to the base fluids, and its thermal physical properties and heat-transfer characteristics are much different from the conventional working fluids. Thus, nanofluids with appropriate nanoparticle type and volume concentration can enhance the heat-transfer process. In this study, the moving particle semi-implicit method-meshless advection using flow-directional local grid method is used to simulate the bubble growth, departure, and sliding on the downward-facing heating surface in pure water and nanofluid (1.0 vol.% $Al_2O_3/H_2O$) flow boiling processes; additionally, the bubble critical departure angle and sliding characteristics and their influence are also investigated. The results indicate that the bubble in nanofluid departs from the heating surface more easily and the critical departure inclined angle of nanofluid is greater than that of pure water. In addition, the influence of nanofluid on bubble sliding is not significant compared with pure water.

  • Analysis model containing two inclined surface cracks on semi-infinite elastic body is established and analyzed on the basis of linear fracture mechanics to examine mutual interference of two surface cracks. Muskhelishvili's complex stress functions are introduced and a set of singular integral equations is obtained for a dislocation density function. The stress intensity factors at crack tip are obtained by using the Gerasoulis'method. When two surface cracks are parallel and have the same length, the values of $K_1$and $\Delta K_11$(variation of $K_11$) for crack 1 and crack 2 decrease by the mutual interference of two surface cracks as the distance between the two surface cracks shortens. The effect of mutual interference is remarkable in high friction coefficient. In case that two surface cracks are parallel, the values of $K_1$and $\Delta K_11$for crack 2 decrease as the length ratio ot crack 2 to crack 1 becomes small. As the crack inclination angle rises, the value of $K_1$ and the mutual interference of $K_1$for crack 2 increase and the value of$\Delta K_11$ for crack 1 becomes smaller than that for crack 2.

  • An analysis of laminar mixed convection flow adjacent to the inclined flat surface which is subjected to a uniform temperature in a uniform free stream is performed. Nonsimilar boundary layed equation are derived by using the mixed convection parameters such that smooth transition from the purely forced convection limit to the purely free convection limit is possible. The governing equations are solved by a finite difference method using the coupled box scheme of sixth order. Numerical results are presented for prandtl numbers of 0.7 and 7 with the angle of inclination ranging from 0 to 90 degree from the vertical. The velocity distributions for the buoyancy assisting flow exhibit a significant overshoot above the free stream value in the region of intense mixed convection and the velocity field is found to be more sensitive to the buoyancy effect than the temperature field. The separation point near the wall was obtained for the buoyancy opposing flow. The local Nusselt number increases for buoyancy assisting flow and decreases for opposing flow with increasing value of the local Grashoff number in the mixed convection parameter. For large Prandtl number, the Nusselt number and the friction factor decrease significantly near the separation point. Present numerical predictions are in good agreement with recent experimental results by Ramachandran.

  • Sculptured surface machining plays a vital role in the process of bring new Products to the market place. A great variety of products rely on this technology for the production of the dies and moulds used in manufacturing. And, the use or CNC machines and CAD/CAM system has become a vital parts or product development process. But, cusp is inevitable by-product in sculptured surface machining, and it is very difficult to calculate the cusp height correctly. In this study, an analytical cusp height model is proposed considering the radius of the ball end mill, radius of machined workpiece and the inclined angle of convex or concave circular surface. Experiments were performed to check the validity of this proposed model and experimental results showed that the proposed cusp model were very effective.

  • Due to the development of CNC machining centers and the complexity of machined part geometry, the ball-end milling became the most widely used the cutting process. Generally, the tool runout defined as the eccentricity of a rotating tool set in the holder involved the spindle runout and the problem of tool runout generated to remove the workpiece is a main factor affecting the machining accuracy. In this paper, the relationship of tool runout(zero-to-peak, P-K) and surface shape on the change of cutting conditions is studied and it is proposed the probability of prediction of surface shape from the in-process tool runout measurements with high response displacement sensor in the ball-end milling

  • Measurements of the local heat transfer coefficients on hemispherical convex and concave surfaces with a turbulent impinging jet were made. The Reynolds number used was 11000, 23000, 50000 and the nozzle- to- surface distance was L/d=2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 and the jet angle was a = $0^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$ and $40^{\circ}$. In case of concave surface, the Nusselt number at the stagnation point decreases as the jet angle increases and has the maximum value for L/d=6. The X-axis Nusselt number distributions exhibit secondary maxima at $0^{\circ}$ $\leq$ a $\leq$ $15^{\circ}$, L/d $\leq$ 4 for X/d<0(upstream) and at $0^{\circ}$ $\leq$ a $\leq$ $40^{\circ}$, L/d $\leq$ 4 and at $30^{\circ}$ $\leq$ a $\leq$ $40^{\circ}$, 4 < L/d $\leq$ 6 for X/d<0(downstream). The secondary maximum occurs at long distance from the stagnation point as the jet angle increases or the nozzle-to-surface distance decreases. In case of convex, correlations of the stagnation point Nusselt number according to Reynolds number, jet-to-surface distance ratio and dimensionless surface angle are presented. In the stagnation point, in term of Ren, n ranges from 0.43 in case of 2 $\leq$ L/d $\leq$ 6 to 0.45 in case of 6 < L/d $\leq$ 10, there agrees roughly appears to be laminar boundary layer result. The maximum Nusselt number, in this experiment, occurred in the direction of upstream. The displacement of the maximum Nusselt number from the stagnation point increases with increasing surface angle or decreasing nozzle-to-surface distance. On this condition about surface curvature D/d=10, the maximum displacement is about 0.7 times of the jet nozzle diameter. The ratio of the maximum Nusselt number to the stagnation Nusselt number increases as the jet angle increases.

  • It is very difficult to determine suitable cutting conditions in order to obtain accurate cutting profiles because machining errors caused by tool deflection depend upon cutting conditions. In this study the relationship between real cutting profiles (inclined shapes and machining errors) and cutting conditions was modeled in order to fabricate draft angle on micro molds. CCD (Central Composite Design) of DOE (Design Of Experiment) and RSM (Response Surface Method) were applied in order to model the relationship between cutting conditions and machining errors. In order to use CCD the range of radial depth of cut was chosen by $10-90{\mu}m$ and the range of feedrate was chosen by 200-300mm/min, and 9 points of cutting conditions were chosen inside determined ranges. Then, actual cutting processes were carried out as respect to 9 points of cutting conditions, draft angles and real cutting profiles were measured on cutting profiles, each response surface function was determined by conducting response surface analysis and the functions were represented by 3-dimensional graphs, contour lines and $101{\times}101$ matrices. Consequently it is possible to determine suitable cutting conditions in order to obtain arbitrary given draft angles and cutting profiles by using modeling. To validate proposed approach in this study suitable cutting conditions were determined by modeling in order to obtain arbitrary given draft angle and cutting profile, and actual cutting processes were carried out. About 95% of good agreement between predicted and measured values was obtained.
