The occurrence of an inclined edge crack in transversely piezoelectric material is analyzed. Concentrated antiplane mechanical and inplane electrical loads are applied at the boundary and crack surface, respectively. The crack surfaces are assumed to be impermeable to the electric field. Using the Mellin transform with the introduction of a generalized displacement vector, the problem is formulated, and the Wiener-Hopf equation is derived. By solving the equation, the solution is obtained in a closed form. The intensity factors of the stress, the electric displacement, and the energy release rate are obtained for any crack length and inclination angle. These solutions can be used as fundamental solutions and can be superimposed to represent any arbitrary electromechanical loading.

In design and management of sea0dikes, engineers need to study various transient seepage conditions through dikes not only for the sea water infiltration into dikes due to cyclic rises of sea water level also for the seepage flow out from dikes toward the sea due to cyclic drawdown of sea water level. Characteristics of seepage flow toward the sea from dikes are more complicated than as known and remained unclearly. The case of such seepage flow may be explained by figuring out seepage characteristics in filter as a part of sea-dikes. Filters in most sea-dikes in Korea are inevitably placed with reversely inclined shape due to field construction conditions. Most computer programs for seepage analysis based on the various numerical methods give practically acceptable results, but for the case of reversely inclined section of filters any verification to apply them might be needed. In this study, large scaled model tests were executed to verify and understand seepage flow through earth-filled sea-dikes. The results from numerical analysis and model tests show some remarkable differences in pore pressure distribution under cyclic changes of see level, and some of the results need to be considered in design and construction practices with further study.
An experimental study was carried out to study the solid-liquid mixture upward flow in a vertical and inclined annulus with rotating inner cylinder. Lift forces acting on a fluidized particle plays a central role in many importance applications, such as the removal of drill cuttings in horizontal drill holes, sand transport in fractured reservoirs, sediment transport and cleaning of particles from surfaces, etc. Field measurements have revealed that the pressure drop over a borehole during drilling of a slim oil well or a well with a long reach can depend significantly on the rotation speed of the drill pipe. An accurate prediction of the annular frictional pressure drop is therefore important for conditions where the annular clearance is small. Effect of annulus inclination and drill pipe rotation on the carrying capacity of drilling fluid, particle rising velocity, and pressure drop in the slim hole annulus have been measured for fully developed flows of water and of aqueous solutions.
Latest advancement in field of fluid dynamics has taken nanofluid under consideration which shows large thermal conductance and enlarges property of heat transformation in fluids. Motivated by this, the key aim of the current investigation scrutinizes the influence of thermal radiation and magnetohydrodynamic on the laminar flow of an incompressible two-dimensional Williamson nanofluid over an inclined surface in the presence of motile microorganism. In addition, the impact of heat absorption/generation and Arrhenius activation energy is also examined. A mathematical modeled is developed which stimulate the physical flow problem. By using the compatible similarities, we transfer the governing PDEs into ODEs. The analytic approach based on Homotopy analysis method is introduced to impose the analytic solution by using Mathematica software. The impacts of distinct pertinent variable on velocity profiles are investigated through graphs.
A numerical study has been performed on the flow past a two-staged orifice in a rectangular duct. The flow field including the recirculation region behind the orifice was investigated and the pressure drop was calculated. Water was used as a working fluid and the flow was treated as the turbulent flow, of which the Raynolds number was 6000. The main parameters for the pressure drop and the recirculation region were the orifice's inclined angle against the duct, the interval between two orifices, the shape of the orifice's hole having the same area, and the change of the hole position at the same interval. The variation of the flow field was investigated with each parameter. Consequently, it was found that the most dominant parameter influencing the drop of the pressure was the change of the hole position at the same interval between orifices. Especially when the interval between orifices was narrow and the relative position the holes was changed, its effect to the flow field was shown most drastically as a result of this study. The SIMPLER algorithm with FLUENT code was employed to analyze the flow field.

In this paper, a hybrid technique is presented. First, the isochromatic fringe data of a given set of points are calculated by the finite element method and are used as input data in complex variable formulations. Then the numerical model of the specimen with a central inclined crack is transformed from the physical plane to the complex plane by conformal mapping. The stress field is analyzed and the mixed-mode stress intensity factors are calculated for this complex plane. The stress intensity factors are calculated by the finite element method as well as by a theoretical method and compared with each other. In order to conveniently compare these values with each other, both actual and regenerated photoelastic fringe patterns are multiplied by a factor of two and sharpened by digital image processing.

The objective of the paper was to calculate the pressure drop and to investigate the recirculation region of the conical orifices used in Kwang-yang Iron & Steel Company. The flow field with water used as a working fluid was the turbulent flow for Reynolds number of 2$\times$10$^4$. The effective parameters fur the pressure drop and the recirculation region were the conical orifice\`s inclined angle ($\theta$) against the wall, the interval(S) between orifices, the relative angle of rotation($\alpha$) of the orifices, the shape of the orifice's hole(circle, rectangle, triangle) having the same area, the number(N) of the orifice's holes having the same mass flow rate, and the thickness(t) of the orifices. It was fecund that the shape of the orifice's hole, the number of the orifice's holes and the thickness of the orifice affected the total pressure drop a lot and that the conical orifice's inclined angle against the wall, the relative angle of rotation of the orifices, the number of the orifice's holes and the thickness of the orifices affected the center location of the recirculation region. The PISO algorithm with FLUENT code was employed to analyze the flow field.

X-band Waveguide slot way antenna is developed for heliborne MTD radar applications. The antenna is composed of multi-layer waveguide structures. Each of them has it's own functions, such as, radiation, power/phase distribution, coupling, etc. Broad-wall offset slots are used for radiators, inclined slots on broad-wall for power distribution to radiating(branch) waveguide, some kind of coaxial probe structures for in-phase coupling and H-plane T-junction power dividers. Antenna is realized by precision machining and careful assembly. It is tested and measured by 3m${\times}$l.7m planar near-field probe, which is set-up in MTG. Far-field calculations have good agreement in tolerable bounds. Special but necessary process such as brazing, will increase the accuracy and performance. Results show promising possibilities of future applications for real systems.

The effects of slant interface in the hybrid specimen on the dynamic crack propagation behavior have been investigated using dynamic photoelasticity. The dynamic photoelasticity with the aid of Cranz-Shardin type high speed camera system is utilized to record the dynamic stress field around the dynamically propagating inclined interface crack tip in the three point bending specimens. The dynamic load is applied by a hammer dropped from 0.08m high without initial velocity. The dynamic crack propagation velocities and dynamic stresses field around the interface crack tips are investigated. Theoretical dynamic isochromatic fringe loops are compared with the experimental reults. It is interesting to note that the crack propagating velocity becomes comparable to the Rayleigh wave speed of the soft material of a specimen when slant angle decreases.

Si oxidation is a key process in developing silicon devices, such as highly integrated metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) transistors and antireflection-coating (ARC) on solar cell substrate. Many experimental and theoritical studies have been carried out for elucidating oxidation processes and adsorption structure using ab initio total energy and electronic structure calcultaions. However, the initial oxidation processes at step edge on vicinal Si surface have not been studied using the ReaxFF reactive force field. In this work, strucutural change, charge distribution of oxidized Si throughout the depth from Si surface were observed during oxidation processes on vicinal Si(001) surface inclined by $10.5^{\circ}$ of miscut angle toward [100]. Adsorption energys of step edge and flat terrace were calculated to compare the oxidation reaction at step edge and flat terrace on Si surface.
