  • Autonomous driving technology is divided into 0~5 levels. Of these, Level 5 is a fully autonomous vehicle that does not require a person to drive at all. The automobile industry has been trying to develop Level 5 to satisfy safety, but commercialization has not yet been achieved. In order to commercialize autonomous unmanned vehicles, there are several problems to be solved for driving safety. To solve one of these, this paper proposes 'A Deep Learning Part-diagnosis Platform(DLPP) based on an In-vehicle On-board gateway for an Autonomous Vehicle' that diagnoses not only the parts of a vehicle and the sensors belonging to the parts, but also the influence upon other parts when a certain fault happens. The DLPP consists of an In-vehicle On-board gateway(IOG) and a Part Self-diagnosis Module(PSM). Though an existing vehicle gateway was used for the translation of messages happening in a vehicle, the IOG not only has the translation function of an existing gateway but also judges whether a fault happened in a sensor or parts by using a Loopback. The payloads which are used to judge a sensor as normal in the IOG is transferred to the PSM for self-diagnosis. The Part Self-diagnosis Module(PSM) diagnoses parts itself by using the payloads transferred from the IOG. Because the PSM is designed based on an LSTM algorithm, it diagnoses a vehicle's fault by considering the correlation between previous diagnosis result and current measured parts data.

  • This study deals with the development of the extended Kalman filter(EKF) algorithm for the localization of underwater mining vehicles. Both simulation and experimental studies in a test bed are carried out. For the experiments, a scale dawn tracked vehicle is run in a soil bin containing cohesive soil of bentonite-water mixture. To develop the EKF algorithm, we use a kinematic model including the inner/outer track slips and the slip angle for the vehicle. The measurements include the inner and outer wheel speeds from encoders, the heading angle from a compass sensor and a fiber optic rate gyro, and x and y coordinate position values from a vision system. The vision sensor replaces the LBL(Long Base Line) sonar system used in the real underwater positioning situations. Artificial noise signals mimicking the real LBL noise signal are added to the vision sensor information. To know the mean slip values of the tracks in both straight and cornering maneuver, several trial running experiments are executed before applying the EKF algorithm. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the EKF algorithm in rejecting the sensor measurements noise. Also, the simulation and experimental results show close correlations.

  • To ensure the safety of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) or autonomous vehicles, it is important to recognize the vehicle position, and specifically, the increased accuracy of the lateral position of the vehicle is required. In recent years, the quality of GPS signals has improved a lot and the price has decreased significantly, but extreme urban environments such as tunnels still pose a critical challenge. In this study, we proposed stable and precise lane recognition and tracking methods to solve these two issues via fusion of AVM images and vehicle sensor data using an extended Kalman filter. In addition, the vehicle's lateral position recognition and the abnormal state of RTK GPS were determined using this approach. The proposed method was validated via actual vehicle experiments in urban areas reporting multipath and signal disconnections.

  • A sensor system has been developed that uses an ultrasonic sensor to detect the downhill slope on the side of a forest road and prevents a vehicle-type forest machine from rolling down a mountainside. A specular reflection of ultrasonic wave might cause severe issues in measuring distances to targets. By investigating the installation angle of the sensor to minimize the negative effects of specular reflection, the installation angle of lateral monitoring ultrasonic sensor could be determined based on the width of road shoulder. Obstacles such as small rocks or piece of log in a forest road may cause the forest machine to be overturned while the machine riding over due to excessive its posture change. It was determined that the laser sensor could be a part of a sensor system capable of specifying the location and size of small obstacles. Not only this sensor system including ultrasonic and laser sensors can issue a warning of dangerous sections to drivers in forest forwarders currently in use, but also it can be used as a driving safety sensor in autonomous forest machine or remote-control forest machine in the future.

  • In the multi-sensor system, sensor registration errors such as a sensor bias must be corrected so that the individual sensor data are expressed in a common reference frame. If registration process is not properly executed, large tracking errors or formation of multiple track on the same target can be occured. Especially for launch vehicle tracking system, each multiple observation lies on the same reference frame and then fused trajectory can be the best track for slaving data. Hence, this paper describes an on-line bias estimation/correction and asynchronous sensor fusion for launch vehicle tracking. The bias estimation architecture is designed based on pseudo bias measurement which derived from error observation between GPS and radar measurements. Then, asynchronous sensor fusion is adapted to enhance tracking performance.

  • Modal parameters are widely used in bridge damage detection, finite element model (FEM) updating and design optimization. However, the conventional modal identification approaches require large number of sensors, enormous data processing workload, but normally result in mode shapes with low accuracy. This paper proposes a modal identification method of time-varying vehicle-bridge system using a single sensor. Firstly, the essential physical relationship between the instantaneous frequency of the vehicle-bridge system and the bridge mode shapes are derived. Subsequently, based on the synchroextracting transform, the instantaneous frequency of the system is tracked through the dynamic response collected by a single sensor, and further the modal parameters are estimated by using the derived physical relationship. Then numerical and experimental examples are conducted to examine the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method. Finally, the modal parameters identified by the proposed method are applied in bridge FEM updating. The results manifest that the proposed method identifies the modal parameters with high accuracy via a single sensor, and can provide reliable data for the FEM updating.

  • Generally, G.P.S(Global Positioning System) is using for the car navigation system but it has some restrictions such as the discontinuity of earth satellites and SA (Selective Availability). Recently, the hybrid navigation system combining with G.P.S and Dead-reckoning are much attractuve for improving the accuracy of a vehicle positioning. G.P.S called satellite navigation system, can measure its position by using satellites. Dead-Reckoning is the self-contained navigatioin system using a wheel sensor for the vehicle velocity and a gyro sensor for the vehicle angular velocity. Some algorithm could be generated for finding the vehicle position and orientation. In this paper, we developed a hybrid algotithm wiht G.P.S DR and Map-Matching.

  • When raining or snowing, windshield wiper system is very important for safety of driver. However, manual wiper system frequently needed to be controlled for sufficient visibility and it was very uncomfortable. So, rain sensor which controls automatically was developed. This rain sensor technology uses optical sensing technique sensed the rainfall by receiving reflected light of rain dropped on the windshield. The technology used optical sensor was simple and easy to implement as a rain sensing system in the car. However, it is sometime shown low accuracy to measure rainfall on the windshield when affected by ambient lights from surroundings. It is also given inconvenience to the driver to control the car. To solving these problems, we propose a rain sensing system using image sensor and the fuzzy wiper control algorithm.

  • NDIR (Non-dispersive infrared Rays) alcohol sensor has been prototyped and its temperature characteristics were measured. In order to design novel optical alcohol sensor, elliptical structures with one common foci were modeled and analyzed their optical properties. After analyzing elliptic optical structures, a prototype alcohol sensor module was tested according to the temperature variations from $-20^{\circ}C$ to $35^{\circ}C$. The offset voltages of alcohol sensor decreased from 1.1056 V at the temperature $-20^{\circ}C$ to 0.7339 V at $35^{\circ}C$. However, the highest sensitivity of alcohol sensor showed about $303{\mu}V/ppm$ at room temperature.

  • Recently, many automotive companies tend to apply an air quality system (AQS), which prevents polluted air such as smoke or dust by controlling air intake actuator of vehicle, to satisfy the consumer's need for agreeable in-vehicle environment. However, performance of the traditional AQS is not satisfactory because a polluted air may enter into the inside of vehicle through the breaks of windows. Especially, the commercial vehicles such as bus or truck need to be prevented polluted air from the breaks of vehicle. Hence, as an alternative to the traditional AQS, this paper presents the architecture of smart AQS for commercial vehicle and implementation of the smart AQS. Also, the performance of the suggested system is evaluated through an experimental testbed.
