  • This study was conducted to evaluate the factors affecting the quality of life before and after clinical practice for nursing students. The data were collected from 256 nursing students in the third and fourth years at H college and G University through a questionnaire from February 19 to June 29, 2018. The collected data were compiled using the SPSS/WIN 18.0 statistical program with Paired t-test, ANOVA, Spearman rho Correlation, Kendall Correlation, and Multiple Linear Regression. The factors that significantly explained the quality of life of nursing students before and after clinical practice were the reason for application (t=5.268, p<.001), school record (t=4.771, p<.001), depression (t=-4.600, p<.001), monthly income (t=3.383, p=.001), and satisfaction in nursing department (t=3.344, p=.001). The coefficient of determination for these factors, R2, showed an explanation force of 68.5%. These results also inferred that the quality of life of nursing college students is high, with high satisfaction in nursing departments and regular school record and low economic hardship and depression. Therefore, programs should be developed that can improve the quality of life of nursing students before and after clinical practice by continued improvement in the controllable factors of school record and satisfaction in nursing departments and by reducing depression, since the reason for application and the monthly income of nursing students cannot be controlled.

Seventy-four percent of doctors strongly urged nutrition counseling for patients. Seventy one percent of doctors agreed that the present medical-nutrition education was inadequate in medical school curricura. Most doctors (79.2%) agreed that a therapeutic diet manual would be helpful and necessary. The average percentage of nutritional knowledge test scores for dietitians and students majoring in nutrition were 76.0% and 68.3%, respectively. Over ninety percent of dietitians working and their prescriptions. The result of this study strongly suggests that the development of a comprehensive therapeutic diet manual is necessary, especially for medical doctors.

  • The new research data and rapid development of psychotropic drugs over the past few years have warranted the development of clinical practice guidelines for managing pervasive developmental disorder(PDD). These guidelines are urgently needed due to the recent changes in social circumstances and clinical situations in Korea. Despite the many limitations and problems surrounding the development of these guidelines, the Korean Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry(KACAP) has decided to develop the Korean Practice Parameters for the Treatment of PDD. The goal, basic principles, organization, and implications of this development project are introduced in this special paper. We expect these practice parameters to be a useful reference not only for child psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals in clinical practice, but also for the autistic patients themselves and their caregivers. The practice parameters shall be revised and improved in the near future.

  • Education on the physician continues with undergraduate medical education, graduate medical education, and continuous medical education. The countries such as the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, German, and others are required to undergo training in the clinical field for 2 years after completing the national medical examination, and to become doctors after passing the clinical practice license test. Korea can obtain a medical license and become a clinical doctor at the same time if it passes written and practical tests after completing 6 years of undergraduate medical education or 4 years of graduate school. About 90% of medical school graduates replace clinical practice with 4-5 years of training to acquire professional qualifications, but this is an option for individual doctors rather than an extension of the licensing system under law. The medical professional qualification system is implemented by the Ministry of Health and Welfare on the regulation. In fact, under the supervision of the government, the Korean Hospital Association, the Korean Medical Association, and the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences progress most procedures. After training and becoming a specialist, the only thing that is given to a specialist is the right to mark him or her as a specialist in marking a medical institution and advertising. The government's guidelines for professional training are too restrictive, such as the recruitment method of residents, annual training courses of residents, dispatch rule of the residents, and the quota of residents of training hospitals. Although professional training systems are operated in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, most of them are organized and operated by public professional organizations and widely recognize the autonomy of academic institutions and hospitals. Korea should also introduce a compulsory education system after graduating from medical education and organize and initiate by autonomic public professional organization that meets global standards.

  • Objectives To explore the traffic injury patients' experience on health care utilization of Korean Medicine (KM) practice and perception of health care system for developing a Korean medicine clinical practice guideline (CPG) of traffic injuries by survey method. Methods Two hundred ten patients in suffering from traffic injuries were surveyed from September 1st, 2019 to January 31th, 2020 at 2 University Hospitals (Pusan National Korean Medicine Hospital and Kyung Hee Korean Medicine Hospital at Gangdong) and 1 Spine Specialty Hospital (Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine). A structured questionnaire of experience on health care utilization of KM practice and perception of health care system of was distributed to responders by visits and all data were statistically analysed. Results Survey results showed high satisfaction of patients with the experience of KM treatments in order of daoyin exercise (7.8±2.3), chuna manual therapy (7.7±4.0), pharmacoacupuncture (7.4±3.0) etc. Safety concerns were reported in 9.1% subjects and 205 (97.6%) patients answered that collaboration with KM and western medicine is necessary for patients with traffic injuries. For the patients' requirement for extending insurance coverage, the most required therapy was chuna manual therapy (57.5%) and pharmacoacupuncture (42.0%). Conclusions This study presented the realistic patient-centered perception of KM practice and health care system in Korea. These results will provide basic data to be reflected in the process of adaptation for the revision of Korean Medicine CPG for traffic injuries.

  • Chronic periodontitis is one of the most common diseases in clinical dentistry, which requires various surgical interventions to treat the moderately to severely destructed supporting periodontium. Most patients have anxiety and fear to these surgical procedures and dentists often have problems dealing with these patients. By applying the conscious sedation technique in outpatient units, periodontists have become able to manage their patients successfully with less anxiety or fear. Also, we have experienced the increased level of patients' satisfaction. Generally, periodontal treatments are time consuming procedures and patients are usually reluctant to the periodontal instruments. This study is focused on the sedation procedure with intravenous midazolam infusion performed in Department of Periodontology of Ewha Womans University Hospital. Using questionnaires, we evaluated 80 randomly selected patients for the anxiolytic effect of intravenous midazolam. Anxiety control using IV sedation was very helpful in performing various periodontal reconstructive and advanced surgical procedures in implant dentistry.

So this study was investigated in order to made concrete the problems of educational duality, set up the direction of the school system's improvement, as like the four-year system and recognized the necessity. The curriculums of 13 colleges and 5 universities was analyzed. The curriculum analysis was made up the comparison and the analysis by a liberal arts point, a major point, a clinical practice point, total opening subjects, and so on. The analyzing results were as follows. 1. The average rates of a liberal arts vs. a major opening point are 17:83 in college, and are 27:73 in university. 2. It is a serious problem that college are lower than university in a liberal arts. The best method that can solve it is lengthen the number of school years. 3. There is no difference between college and university in a major subject. Rather college has the more subject's numbers than university. 4. There is no difference between college and university in a clinical practice. Above results suggests that there is not different between college and university in a major subject except for a liberal arts point. It is proper that one should be unificate the curriculum according to the sameness between a state examination and a license. Therefore, it is necessary for graduates from college that provides the opportunity of proceeding to a higher school, demands the seguential system of study cultivating and producing a bachelor, and requires the continual education in a clinical field, a bachelor admitting system of continual education, and clinical therapist's qualification. The present physical therapy educational systems should be unificated because of many right reasons. On the other hand, the follw-up study that improving the school system about the four-years and the more physical therapy should be continue from the viewpoint of education.
