Under the Japanese imperialistic rule, Japanese Officer designed all of the stations ; that can be classified 1) wooden compromise style, 2) renaissance style, 3) northern European house style, 4) general station by standard drawing, 5) Korean house style. 6) modernism style. Especially, Korean house style was not planned to commemorate the old Korean Architecture, but to beguile the Japanese tourists' monotony of the journey in Korea. • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accessibility of existing multi-household multi-studio type house for developing Senior Congregate Housing. At present, in Korea, 'the Act of Promotion of Convenience and SEcurity for Disabled, Aged, Expectant Mothers, etc.' is applied to only public facilities. Therefore, this study evaluated 7 units -2 multi-household house and i multi-studio type house- in order to grasp the problems caused if the aged would dwell in that type of house, by the items of 'manual for improving the residency of the disabled' which was stipulated by the act above. The data was collected from May to June, 2005. The results were as follows: Firstly, the main entrances, exits and width of stairways had narrow spaces, the handles and bars did not conform with the terms presented in the manual above. Front doors should be opened like a bay for wheelchair use. Secondly, additional lighting apparatus and furniture should be added properly Thirdly, there were several inconformity to the manual for bathroom: improper handles, inadjustable washing-stands, unavailable spaces in front of toilet bowls, and out-of-place showers and taps. Finally kitchen cabinet design improper for wheelchair user. In conclusion, accessibility of existing multi-household or multi-studio type house was not good enough for the aged reside in. Those insufficiencies suggest that more specified standards to enhance accessibility to develop senior congregate housing should be added.

  • This study surveys the degree of residents' satisfaction on the current street space to suggest alternatives for the improvement of the street space design in detached house areas. In the results of the survey, we find the following. First, in the result of analysis on age, residential term, having children or not, income level, and type of house ownership, residents are homogeneous in social and economic characteristics. There are similarity in geographical, locational conditions, neighboring facilities, deterioration of residential house, and the time of residential formation among residential areas. Second, satisfactory determinants of residents on street space according to street types, are maintenance, protection of privacy, and parking space. Third, satisfactory determinants of residents on street hierarchy is the inner circulation road while unsatisfactory one is the inner roads. Fourth, age, residential term and type of house ownership are significant factors influencing residents' satisfaction. Factors influencing satisfaction on street space are also affecting total satisfaction and factors associated with street environment are perceived more important ones than factors associated with street activities. Thus we find the degrees of satisfaction for residents on street type and street hierarchy are different despite that general characteristics of residents are similar. We also find residents consider street noise and maintenance as critical factor among physical factors of street space.

Second, looking at each component, traditional reproduction method mostly used for roof, column and ceiling to emphasize facade. Traditional transformation method can be divided into 3 ways in detail. The first method is mixing materials of modern and traditional, and the second one is transforming traditional material and combining this with modern one. The third is removing traditional material completely and transforming totally into modern materials. Third, traditional high quality noble houses are found in luxurious Korean restaurants and luxurious cafes while common houses are found in local food restaurant and cafes. It is because traditional common houses are still considered as low quality of design and it may prevent common houses from becoming high quality of design.

  • The interior designs and architectures are definitely important to the disabled because it could improve their independence considerably. Although the design is meaningless if for each disabled's symptom is not considering, the research on design to support detail symptom of each disabled is insufficient. This paper studies the bathroom in house for the disabled of hemiplegia after a stroke. The bathrooms is important space that cause many unnecessary activities and accidents without carefulness. Study method makes framework through principle of universal design and feature of hemiplegia after a stroke. We visit three places where the disabled live in and used qualitative analysis. After checking the present condition of the bathroom, a request and necessity of the disabled through observation and semi-structured interview. According to the result of this study, the obstruction factors were increased when the disabled try to use both hands or to reach and pick up objects, to move and to assist the severe disabled in the bathroom. Finally this study suggests design guidelines based on principle of universal design and factors for better bathroom design for the disabled.

  • Between 1890-1914, the fundamental changes of the housing in United Sates of America were provoked to attempt the housing developments to adapt modern social system. The worthy of notice is that F L. Wright's Prairie House had been tested and built during the period as 'the first and second era' Despite the transition period in America, this represents that Wright's Prairie House series were developed. There are possibilities that some of the reformers assertion for Housing Development, on behalf of Arts & Crafts Movement, led to Wright's early house inner space design. For this reason, this study is to examine Ideologies that Wright has been accepted between the turning point of America's Arts & Crafts Movement and Hull House Circle. In terms of the ideologies acceptance, the study is also to examine how to be represented his inner space design characteristics. As the result, between'Simplification'housing development and the traditional housing In America, F L. Wright sublimated his own architectural aesthetic as accepting all functional elements to consider inevitability in this period, such as the association between economical and rational space, the plan to led on free plane, the spatial side and the stability of family life and the community, through the unification space having the consecutiveness.
