Flow-able backfill is known as soil-cement slurry, void fill, and controlled low-strength material (CLSM). The benefits of CLSM include reduced equipment costs, faster construction, re-excavation in the future, and the ability to place material in confined spaces such as narrow parts nearly impossible for compaction or perimeter of underground power cables. A review of some recent full-scale tests carried out by KEPRI on slurry backfill materials for application in underground power cable was presented. Based on this research, applicability was assessed and compare to results of laboratory tests for improved slurry materials with optimal mixture contents.

As political circumstances in oversea countries and Korea varies, the risk of vulnerability from unexpected extreme loading conditions, such as explosions or extreme impacts, also increased. In addition, construction companies in Korea recently have taken chances of overseas expansion to countries where their domestic situations are not in rest. Therefore, the resistance of construction materials for blast or impact loading become taking more consideration from engineering field. This study is a part of the research to develop a high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composite materials with high volume steel fibers and primary purpose of this study is to find an optimum mix proportions of in-fill slurry. In order to accomplish the tasks this study performed experimental investigations on the slurry for consistency, compressive strength, flowability, J-penetration, bleeding and rheology properties as well as mechanical properties, compressive and flexural strength, with respect to different mix proportions.

In this study, the improved throughput and stability in device fabrication could be obtained by applying CMP process to STi structue in 0.18 um semiconductor device. To employ the CMP process in STI structure, the Reverse Moat Process used to be added after STI Fill, as a result, the process became more complex and the defect were seriously increased than they had been,. Removal rate of each thin film in STI CMP was not uniform, so, the device must have been affected. That is, in case of excessive CMP, the damage on the active area was occurred, and in the case of insufficient CMP nitride remaining was happened on that area. Both of them deteriorated device characteristics. As a solution to these problems, the development of slurry having high removal rate and high oxide to nitride selectivity has been studied. The process using this slurry afford low defect levels, improved yield, and a simplified process flow. In this study, we evaluated the 'High Selectivity Slurry' to do a global planarization without reverse moat step, and also we evaluated EPD(Eend Point Detection) system with which 'in-situ end point detection' is possible.

This study is to evaluate the physical and mechanical characteristics of flowable backfill and search for the optimal mixture contents of it used for constructing underground power utilities. flowable backfill is known as soil-cement slurry, void fill, and controlled low-strength material(CLSM). The benefits of CLSM include reduced equipment costs, faster construction, re-excavation in the future, and the ability to place material in confined spaces such as narrow parts nearly impossible for compaction or perimeter of underground power cables. The flowable slurry mixture made with 9 types of soil and 6 types of accelerated mixtures in the laboratory were evaluated for bleeding, flowability, heat resistance, and unconfined compressive strength to meet the aim values of this study.
A new piece of test equipment, the slurry wear tester (SWT), was proposed in this study to evaluate the wear behavior of rubber vulcanizate in environmental contact with slurry. Natural rubber (NR) and chloroprene rubber (CR) were chosen as the basic matrices to test the slurry wear. The fluids used to fill the chamber of the SWT were 35% HCl and NaCl solution. The Akron abrasion test was used for comparison with SWT. According to the results of the Akron abrasion test, CR vulcanizate abraded more rapidly than NR vulcanizate under same test condition. It was found that the hysteresis of rubber was key factor contribute to the wear behavior. However, the slurry wear rate of the NR and CR vulcanizates did not change significantly, even with changes in the concentration of acid and the immersion time in both HCl and NaCl solutions; the fluid decreased the friction between the abrasive paper and the specimen. It also reduced the heat generated from repeated deformation and wear debris at the surface of the SWT's abrasion arm. Thus, these phenomena affected the wear behavior of rubber vulcanizate and caused different results in the conventional Akron abrasion test. This outcome could have resulted in an incorrect analysis if the slurry wear behavior of the rubber vulcanizate was estimated by the conventional abrasion tests, which are operated under dry conditions.

This study is to evaluate the mechanical characteristics of flowable backfill and offer a guide line of mixture proportion based on soil types for constructing underground power utilities. Flowable backfill is known as soil-cement slurry, void fill, and controlled low-strength material(CLSM). In this study, two different types of dredged fill injection methods are introduced and filling experiments were conducted to analyze the impact of each technique to the distribution and deposition of dredged soil fill and how it influence the final tube shape. Two transparent plastic tubes were fabricated to observe the deposition behavior of the deposited fill material. Both tubes measured 4.0 meters in length (L) and has vinyl tube diameters (D) of 0.5m and 0.7m. T-type and I-type inlet system are also introduced in this paper. The influence of this inlet systems to the distribution and deposition behavior of dredged soil fill inside the vinyl tubes were observed during the experiment. After the sedimentation of the slurry mixture, the water on top of the soil sediments are removed and the slurry mixture was re-injected into the vinyl tube, this process was carried out repeatedly. The shape changes of the vinyl tube, e.g. the changes in both tube height and width, are constantly monitored after each slurry injection and water draining phases. Crater formation was observed in the case of I-Type inlet system and a non-uniform sediment distribution occurred. For the diffusion deposit of soil particles to long distance are minimal shape technique using the T-Type inlet system. Therefore the undrain filling height ratio ($H/D_0$) was found to be around 0.54 to 0.64 and the horizontal strain ratio ($W/D_0$) ranges from 1.45 to 1.54. The filling soil height is proportional to dredged-material filling phases, but, horizontal strain ratio is constant or inversely reduced so that the center of tube body is raised in the upward direction.

Polycrystalline CdS films have been prepared by coating a slurry, which consisted of CdS, 11w% CdCl$_2$ and appropriate amount of propylene glycol, on glass substrate and glass substrate coated with indium tin oxide(ITO) followed by sintering in a nitrogen atmosphere. CdTe slurries consisting of Te powder and Cd powder were coated on the sintered CdS films and ITO/CdS films and were sintered in nitrogen to prepare sintered CdS/CdTe and ITO/CdS/CdTe solar cells. The value of fill factor increased due to low series resistance and open circuit voltage decreased due to low shunt resistance in the ITO/CdS/CdTe solar cells.

High intensity metal halide discharge lamp performance, specifically the generated luminous flux and light color content, depends critically on the arc tube design. Factors influencing the design and consequent lamp efficacy include : lamp size, geometry, arc tube composition, fill chemistry, electrode design and excitation modes. Shaping of Polycrystalline Alumina(PCA) can be realized by conventional ceramic processes. Several processes are applied nowadays. Well-known in the ceramic high pressure field for decades are the pressing and the extrusion method. Newly developed slurry and precious forming technologies give the one-body seamless tubes, which improve thickness uniformity and lighting performance. Now, we reported some optical properties with different arc tube structures of ceramic metal halide lamps.
In this study, the thermal conductive characteristics and basic properties of the nine commercial products of bentonite grouts were studied. Six of the nine products for ground heat exchanger systems are imported and others for civil engineering are domestic. The thermal conductivities of all bentonite products are nearly similar among products. The free swell indexes, viscosities and filter losses of the ground heat exchanger grouts are lower than those of the civil engineering ones. These characteristics seem to increase of the fluidity to fill the bentonite slurry to bore-hall perfectly, rather than to prevent underground water penetration. Thus, the mixtures of bentonites and sands are recommended for high thermal conduction grouts.
