This paper presents that the comparison results of AT (Active Transponder) positions obtained from different measurements: the result of GPS device and evaluated position from the SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) image, and active transponders can be useful as GCPs(Ground Control Points) in SAR images. The X-band AT are installed on the wide-and-flat area to improve SCR(signal-to-clutter ration), and activated to represent impulse response function in order to operate as one point target in SAR images. Cosmo-SkyMed operating at X-band frequency are used to provide SAR images of AT. The comparison of AT position is performed by using the result of GPS device field measurement and AT SAR images. ENVI-SARscape S/W is used to evaluate AT position in the SAR images. From the comparison, it is shown that AT are useful as GCPs for SAR images.

SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) systems can provide images of wide coverage in day, night, and all-weather conditions. However wideband SAR systems are known to be vulnerable to interferences from other devices operating at in-band or adjacent spectrums and this may lead to image corruptions. In this paper, a SAR point target simulator is developed that provides performance analysis on image distortion caused by interferences from other devices. Interference signals are generated based on the experimental data observed from acquired SAR raw data. Simulation results include typical SAR performance measures such as spatial resolution, peak to sidelobe ratio and integrated sidelobe ratio. Finally, SAR target simulations are performed and shown to correspond to the image corruptions found in real SAR missions affected by RF interferences.

As pervious the SAR(Security Aware Routing)[10] protocol is an secure Ad Hoc network protocol that finds a secure path, it is the security routing protocol that uses the security level of nodes as the routing information. However, the SAR protocol sometimes transfers data through inefficient transmission paths because it always tries to find secure nodes for a safe transmission. Since it is a protocol based on AODV[6], it will cause transmission delay as researching of security routing path. when a node is out of the data transmission range as its battery dying or movement. Although it is possible to connection of nodes because a characteristic of the SAR protocol, the connection is not easy to reconnect when the security level of intermediate node is lower than the level requested by a source node. In this paper, we suggest the MP-SAR based on the SAR to solve the SAR protocol's problem. The MP-SAR seeks multiple secure path for maintenance of data confidentiality using the expanded secure path detection techniques based on the SAR. It can transfer data quickly and reliably by using the shortest efficient path among multiple paths. In the research result, we proved a outstanding performance of MP-SAR than the previous SAR through comparison and analysis.

The SAR patterns of biological objects contacted with coaxial waveguide antennal has been investigated, in which the biological object was modeled by a homogeneous and four-layered lossy human body. We derived the finite-difference time-domain(FDTD) algorithm and equation of MUR and generalized perfectly matched layer(GPML) ABCs in cylindrical coordination. The coupling between coaxial waveguide antenna and a biological object was analyzed by use of MUR and GPML ABCs in the FDTD method to obtain the absorbed power patterns in the media. The specific absorption rates (SAR) distribution which was corresponding to the temperature distribution was calculated in each region by use of the steady-state response in the FDTD method. The SAR patterns of the FDTD method using MUR absorbing boundary conditions(ABCs) was compared with those of the FDTD method using GPML ABCs. The comparison exhibits that the penetration depth of the SAR patterns using MUR ABCs is deeper than that of the SAR patterns using GPML ABCs because of loss in free space. However, the spread in the lateral directions of the SAR patterns using GPML ABCs is smaller than of the SAR patterns using MUR ABCs.

The SAR measurement system with stationary probes, presented in this paper, can calculate area SAR value based ell the measured 9 electric field data. By converting obtained area SAR to the volume SAR, the results can be acquired in a few seconds. The system can be very useful tool in the stages of handset development for mobile communication as well as in the handset production line because of its rapid SAR measurement. The system showed good linearity characteristics at 835 MHz of 10 $\sim$ 27 dBm input power range.
For the last 14 years, space-borne satellite SAR system such as RADARSAT-1, ERS-2, and ENVISAT ASAR have provided a continuous observation over the ocean. However, the data acquired from those systems were limited to C-band frequency until the advent of the first spacebome German X-band SAR system TerraSAR-X in 2007. Korea is also planning to launch the nation's first X-band SAR satellite (KOMPSAT-5) in 2010. It is timely and necessary to develop X-band models for estimating geophysical parameters from these X-band SAR systems. In this study, X-band wind retrieval model was investigated and developed based on numerical ocean scattering model (radar backscattering model and hydrodynamic interaction model). Although these models have not yet been tested and validated for broad ranges of wind conditions, the estimated wind speeds from TerraSAR-X data show generally good agreement with in-situ measurements.
Look direction bias in a single look SAR image can often be misinterpreted in the geological application of radar data. This paper investigates digital processing techniques for SAR image data integration and compensation of the SAR data look direction bias. The two important approaches for reducing look direction bias and integration of multiple SAR data sets are (1) principal component analysis (PCA), and (2) wavelet transform(WT) integration techniques. These two methods were investigated and tested with the ERS-1 (VV-polarization) and CCRS*s airborne (HH-polarization) C-SAR image data sets recorded over the Sudbury test site, Canada. The PCA technique has been very effective for integration of more than two layers of digital image data. When there only two sets of SAR data are available, the PCA thchnique requires at least one more set of auxiliary data for proper rendition of the fine surface features. The WT processing approach of SAR data integration utilizes the property which decomposes images into approximated image ( low frequencies) characterizing the spatially large and relatively distinct structures, and detailed image (high frequencies) in which the information on detailed fine structures are preserved. The test results with the ERS-1and CCRS*s C-SAR data indicate that the new WT approach is more efficient and robust in enhancibng the fine details of the multiple SAR images than the PCA approach.
This paper presents an examination of the spatial integration method for extracting the RCS of a trihedral corner reflector from SAR images for SAR external calibration. An exact external radiometric calibration technique is required for extracting an exact calibration constant. Therefore, we examine the accuracy of the spatial integration method, which is commonly used for the SAR external radiometric calibration. At first, an SAR image for a trihedral corner reflector is simulated with a high-resolution SAR impulse response with a known theoretical RCS of the reflector, and a background clutter image for the high resolution SAR system is also generated. Then, a SAR image in a high resolution is generated for a trihedral comer reflector located on a background clutter by superposition of the two SAR images. The radar cross section of a trihedral corner reflector in the SAR image is retrieved by integrating the radar signals of the pixels adjacent to the reflector for various size of the integration area. By comparison of the measured RCS by the integration method and the theoretical RCS of the reflector, the effect of the size of the integration area on the extraction of the calibration constant is examined.

For successful automatic target recognition(ATR) with synthetic aperture radar(SAR) imagery, SAR target images of the database should have the identical or highly similar resolution with those collected from SAR sensors. However, it is time-consuming or infeasible to construct the multiple databases with different resolutions depending on the operating SAR system. In this paper, an approach for resolution conversion of SAR target images is proposed based on conditional generative adversarial network(cGAN). First, a number of pairs consisting of SAR target images with two different resolutions are obtained via SAR simulation and then used to train the cGAN model. Finally, the model generates the SAR target image whose resolution is converted from the original one. The similarity analysis is performed to validate reliability of the generated images. The cGAN model is further applied to measured MSTAR SAR target images in order to estimate its potential for real application.
Two RADARSAT SAR images with different modes acquired by Canadian Space Agency to test the effectiveness of geological lineament extraction and spring water detection over the Cheju Island. Geological lineaments are poorly developed this basalt dominant volcanic island, but more linear features can be extracted when SAR and TM images are simultaneously analyzed than when TM image alone is used. This results mainly owe to the facts that RADARSAT SAR systems are able to provide data with different frequencies, azimuth, and incidence angles. Distribution of spring water along coast is poorly correlated with geological lineaments or drainage pattern, but those in middle range of mountain region are developed along geological lineaments. Detection of spring water using remotely sensed images are turned out to be very difficult to achieve. Radial shaped sea surface temperature anomaly derived from TM thermal band should be the best candidate for spring water, but the resolution is not high enough. We also investigate the normalized radar cross section (or sigma naught) converted from RADARSAT and ERS-1 SAR data but to discriminate the spring water effectively except where relatively large water mass is observed on land side. Speckle noise and irregularity in physical sea surface condition are the serious obstacles for this application. ERS-1 SAR image acquired in low incidence angle was more useful for geological lineament estimation and water body study than RADARSAT SAR images with high incidence angles. Therefore the selection of incidence angle is critical in geological and spring water applications of SAR images, and low incidence angles less than about 30$^{\circ}$ are recommended to monitor the Cheju volcanic island.
