Electromagnetic impulse welding (EMIW) is a type of solid state welding using the Lorentz force generated by interaction between the magnetic field of the coil and the current induced in the workpiece. Although many experimental studies have been investigated on the expansion and compression welding of tube using the EMIW process, studies on the EMIW process of lap joint between flat sheets are uncommon. Since the magnetic field enveloped inside the tube can be controlled with ease, the electromagnetic technique has been widely used for tube welding. Conversely, it is difficult to control the magnetic field in the flat sheet welding so as to obtain the required welding velocity. The current study analyzed the effects of coil shape on the impulse velocity for suitable flat one-turn coil for the EMIW of the flat sheets. The finite element (FE) multi-physics simulation involving magnetic and structural field of EMIW were conducted with the commercial software LS-DYNA to evaluate the several shape variables, viz., influence of various widths, thicknesses, gaps and standoff distances of the flat one-turn coil on the impulse velocity. To obtain maximum impulse velocity, the flat one-turn coil was designed based on the FE simulation results. The experiments were performed using an aluminum alloy 1050 sheets of 1.0mm thickness using the designed flat one-turn coil. Through the microscopic interfacial analysis of the welded specimens, the interfacial connectivity was observed to have no defects. In addition, the single lap joint tests were performed to evaluate the welding strength, and a fracture occurred in the base material. As a result, a flat one-turn coil was successfully designed to guarantee welding with bond strength equal to or greater than the base material strength.

A biomechanical study was conducted in this study to investigate if in-line skating wrist guards can effectively reduce the impact forces so as to protect the wrist from fracture. The forearm specimens with and without wrist guards were dropped using a specially designed sled to simulate the impact on the wrist while falling. A force plate was used to measure the total impact force on the dropping weight whereas a load cell was attached to the proximal end of the specimen and used to quantify the impact transmitted through the wrist joint. From the non-destructive tests, mean peak force measured from a force plate showed no difference between the guarded and unguarded groups whereas mean impulse of the guarded group was significantly greater than that of the unguarded group (p<0.01). Comparing the peak force and impulse measured from the load cell, the peak force of the guarded group was significantly less than that of the unguarded group (p<0.001), while the impulse values were similar. When the specimens were dropped from a higher position (2.5ft ve. 1ft), all unguarded specimens had severe wrist fractures whereas fracture was found in three out of 5 guarded specimens. Comparison of mean peak forces and impulses showed as significant difference between the guarded and unguarded groups only in the mean impulse measured from the force plate. These results suggest that the wrist guard may protect the wrist by attenuating the peak force transmitted to radius and ulnar although it may not be effective when the wrist is subjected to an impact sufficiently large to cause fractures.
The purpose of this study is to identify the antecedents and consequence of role-relaxed consumption. Consumption-related variables were considered as antecedents, and fashion-related variable was considered as a consequence. Hedonic consumption, impulse buying, value consciousness, and brand sensitivity were included as consumption-related variables and fashion consciousness was included as a fashion-related variable. It was hypothesized that hedonic consumption, impulse buying, value consciousness, and brand sensitivity influence rolerelaxed consumption and then influence fashion consciousness. Data were gathered by surveying university students in Seoul, using convenience sampling. Two hundred twenty seven questionnaires were used in the statistical analysis, exploratory factor analysis using SPSS and confirmatory factor analysis and path analysis using AMOS. While hedonic consumption, impulse buying, value consciousness, and brand sensitivity were uni-dimensions, role-relaxed consumption and fashion consciousness were multi-dimensions. Factor analysis of role-relaxed consumption revealed two dimensions, 'self-centered decision making' factor and 'importance of intrinsic value' factor. In addition, factor analysis of fashion conscious revealed three dimensions, 'individualism' factor, 'dressing style' factor, and 'appearance' factor. Tests of the hypothesized path show that impulse buying and brand sensitivity negatively influence 'self-centered decision making' and that hedonic consumption and value consciousness negatively influence 'importance of intrinsic value'. While 'self-centered decision making'negatively influence 'dressing style' and 'appearance, 'importance of intrinsic value' negatively influences all factors of fashion consciousness. The implications of these findings and suggestions for future study are also discussed.

The introduction of tracer gas techniques to ventilation studies in indoor environments provides valuable information that used to be unattainable from conventional testing environments. Data acquisition systems (DASs) containing analogue-to-digital (A/D) converters are usually used to function the key role that records signals to storage in digital format. In the testing process, there exist a number of components in the measuring equipment which may produce system-based inference to the monitored results. These unwanted fluctuations may cause significant error in data analysis, especially when non-linear algorithms are involved. In this study, a pre-processor is developed and applied to separate the unwanted fluctuations (noise or interference) in raw measurements and to reduce the uncertainty in the measurement. Moving average, notch filter, FIR (Finite Impulse Response) filters, and IIR (Infinite Impulse Response) filters are designed and applied to collect the desired information from the raw measurements. Tracer gas concentrations are monitored during leakage and ventilation tests in the model test room. The signal analysis functions are introduced to carry out the digital signal processing (DSP) work. Overall the FIR filters process the $CO_2$ measurement properly for ventilation rate and mean age of air calculations. It is found that, the Kaiser filter was the most applicable digital filter for pre-processing the tracer gas measurements. Although the IIR filters help to reduce the random noise in the data, they cause considerable changes to the filtered data, which is not desirable.

Forest fire simulation tests were performed with polymer and porcelain insulators at GOCHANG Power Testing Center. These tests consisted of open flames causing a temperature rise of up to $600{\sim}800^{\circ}C$ measured at the insulator surfaces. Mechanical and electrical characteristics such as the specific mechanical load, the low frequency dry flashover voltage and the impulse flashover voltage were analyzed for the polymer insulators before, during and after the simulation tests and then compared to the porcelain insulators. At the end of the fire simulation tests, there was no detrimental deterioration of any of the insulators. All the insulators passed the KEPCO specification criteria. This study showed that the forest fire simulation had no impact on the polymer insulators.
The forest fire simulation tests were performed with polymer and porcelain insulators at Gochang testing center. A principal components analysis (PCA) of the median head-related impulse responses (HRIRs) in the CIPIC HRTF database reveals that the individual HRIRs can be adequately reconstructed by a linear combination of 12 orthonormal basis functions. These basis functions can be used generally to model arbitrary HRIRs, which are not included in the process to obtain the basis functions. To clarify whether these basis functions can be used to model other set of arbitrary HRIRs, an numerical error analysis for modeling and a series of subjective listening tests were carried out using the measured and modeled HRIRs. The results showed that the set of individual HRIRs, which were measured in our lab using different measurement conditions, techniques, and source positions, can be well modeled with reasonable accuracy. Furthermore, all subjects reported not only the accurate vertical perception but also the front-back discrimination with the modeled HRIRs based on 12 basis functions. However, as less basis functions were used for HRIR modeling, the modeling accuracy and localization performance deteriorated.
A principal components analysis (PCA) of the median-plane head-related impulse responses (HRIRs) in the CIPIC HRTF database reveals that the individual HRIRs in the median plane can be adequately reconstructed by a linear combination of 12 orthonormal basis functions. These basis functions can be used to model arbitrary median-plane HRIRs, which are not included in the process to obtain the basis functions. Memory size can be reduced up to 5-fold depending on the number of HRIRs to be modeled. The results showed that the set of individual HRIRs in the median plane, which were measured in our lab using different measurement conditions, techniques, and source positions, can be modeled with reasonable accuracy. All subjects, involved in the subjective listening test, reported not only the accurate vertical perception but also the front-back discrimination with the modeled HRIRs based on 12 basis functions.
There are several types of life test method for hose assemblies. The two major tests used for hose assemblies are impulse test and burst test. And magnification adjustment of impulse pressure, heating of testing oil and repetitive motions of bending and straightening of testing hose are also performed for accelerating the life. According to the manufacture process of hose and swaging process of fitting, there is a difference in the life of hose assemblies from minimum 7 times to maximum 40 times during the life test in the same functioning condition. Like this, the life test of hose which has a wide scope of life distribution gives a problem that observation should take a long time to find out the existence of the bursting from the beginning of the test to the completion of bursting of hose assemblies. Therefore, this research proposes a process of concentrating on the defective section of hose assemblies and maximizing the life acceleration by giving 'Knockdown stress' to hose assemblies just until before the hose assemblies get out of order.
