  • Intelligent services have expanded as Internet of Things (IoT) technology has evolved and new requirements emerge to accommodate various services. One new requirement is transmitting data over long distances with low-power. Researchers have developed low power wide area (LPWA) network technology to satisfy the requirement; this can improve IoT network infrastructure and increase the range of services. However, network coverage expansion causes several problems. The traffic load is concentrated at a specific gateway, which causes network congestion and leads to decreased transmission efficiency. Therefore, the approach proposed in this paper attempts to recognize and then avoid congestion through gateway channel hopping. The LPWA network employs multiple channels, so wireless channel hopping is available in a gateway. Devices that are not delay sensitive wait for the gateway to reappear on their wireless channel; delay sensitive devices change the wireless channel along the hopping gateway. Thus, the traffic load and congestion in each wireless channel can be reduced improving transmission efficiency. The proposed approach's performance is evaluated by computer simulation and verified in terms of transmission efficiency.

  • The efficiency of marketing channel of distribution between a sholesaler and a retailer with uncertain characteristics can be improved by influencing the retailer's ordering pattern. The wholesaler with large unit invetory holding cost can offer a large quantity discount tanks to the great benefit which comes from the transfer of part of his inventory to retailer. The retailer's increasing average inventory holding cost can be offset by the quantity discount and by savings of the ordering cost. Conditions under which marketing channel improvement can be possible are derived.

  • An OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) includes a MIMO(Multi-Input Multi-Output) scheme for improving spectral efficiency and data throughput. Recognizing that the performance of MIMO system is heavily dependent upon the accuracy of channel estimation, we propose a novel channel estimation for the MIMO scheme based on OFDMA. Conventional interpolation-based channel estimation suffers from poor estimation error at specific subcarriers. Proposed scheme makes use of a planar interpolation instead of linear interpolation for those subcarriers of bad accuracy. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme improves the performance of MIMO system by improving the accuracy in channel estimation especially for the adverse subcarrier positions. It is observed that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional method by about 2dB in terms of both mean squared error and overall bit error rate with a reasonable computational complexity.

  • In this paper, we propose a new multi-channel MAC protocol to improve the channel efficiency by using two interfaces. Most of previous researches that have considered multi-channel wireless network environments use a common control channel to exchange control signals and they have a bottle neck problem at common control channel as increasing the number of data channels. In the proposed MAC protocol, we separate receiving and transmitting channels so that sending and receiving data and control packets at the same time is possible. It increases the total network throughput. Since there is no common control channel, the network does not suffer from the bottle neck problem. By applying a TDMA scheme, we can avoid packet collisions between data packets and control packets and reduce the possibility of CTS or ACK packet collisions. Simulation results show that the proposed multi-channel MAC protocol improves the total network throughput and channel efficiency compared with the existing method.

  • Traditional deterministic channel modeling is accurate in prediction, but due to its complexity, improving computational efficiency remains a challenge. In an alternative approach, we investigated a multilayer artificial neural network (ANN) to predict large-scale and small-scale channel characteristics in metro tunnels. Simulated high-precision training datasets were obtained by combining measurement campaign with a ray tracing (RT) method in a metro tunnel. Performance on the training data was used to determine the number of hidden layers and neurons of the multilayer ANN. The proposed multilayer ANN performed efficiently (10 s for training; 0.19 ms for prediction), and accurately, with better approximation of the RT data than the single-layer ANN. The root mean square errors (RMSE) of path loss (2.82 dB), root mean square delay spread (0.61 ns), azimuth angle spread (3.06°), and elevation angle spread (1.22°) were impressive. These results demonstrate the superior computing efficiency and model complexity of ANNs.

  • In this paper, we propose a multi-channel MAC protocol to improve the channel efficiency and network performance in wireless ad hoc networks. There are two main problems encountered in designing multi-channel MAC protocols. The first problem is the rendezvous problem and the second is multi-channel hidden node problem. In order to solve these problems, most of previous researches that have considered multi-channel MAC protocols use a common control channel to exchange control packets. However, they have a bottleneck problem at common control channel as increasing the number of data channels. The proposed MAC protocol solves the multi-channel hidden node problem using a TDMA scheme and increases the network throughput because transmitting and receiving data at the same time is possible. Also, since there is no common control channel, the network does not suffer from the common control channel saturation problem. Moreover, it achieves energy savings by allowing nodes that are not involved in communication to go into sleep mode. Simulation results show that the proposed MAC protocol improves the network throughput and channel efficiency and provides energy savings.

  • Design parameters for suction channels of process centrifugal compressors were investigated, and an optimization method to enhance stage efficiency by using the new design parameters was proposed. From results of computational fluid dynamics, the passage sectional area ratios $A_c/A_e$, $A_e/A_s$ and $A_c/A_s$ were found to be the dominant parameters for the pressure loss and circumferential flow distortion, where $A_c$, $A_e$ and $A_s$ are passage sectional areas for the casing upstream side, casing entrance and impeller eye, respectively. The Base suction channel was optimized using the new design parameters, and the Base and Optimized types were tested. Test results showed that the Optimized suction channel achieved 3.8% higher stage efficiency than the Base suction channel while maintaining the same operating range.

  • The concept of Internet of Things (IoT) has shed new light on WSN technologies. MAC protocol issues improving the network performance are important in WSNs because of the increase in demand for various applications to secure spectrum resources. Cognitive radio (CR) technology is regarded as a solution to the problems in this future wireless network. In recent years, energy efficiency has become an issue in CR networks. However, few relevant studies have been conducted. In this paper, an energy-efficient non-overlapping channel MAC (ENC-MAC) for CR-enabled sensor networks (CRSNs) is proposed. Applying the dedicated control channel approach, ENC-MAC allows the SUs to utilize channels in a non-overlapping manner, and thus spectrum efficiency is improved. Moreover, the cooperative spectrum sensing that allows an SU to use only two minislots in the sensing phase is addressed to en-hance energy efficiency. In addition, an analytical model for evaluating the performance, such as saturation throughput, average packet delay, and network lifetime, is developed. It is shown in our results that ENC-MAC remarkably outperforms existing MAC protocols.

  • In the traditional cellular network communication, the cellular user and the base station exchange information through the uplink channel and downlink channel. Meanwhile, device-to-device (D2D) users access the cellular network by reusing the channel resources of the cellular users. However, when cellular user channel conditions are poor, not only D2D user cannot reuse its channel resources to access the network, but also cellular user's communication needs cannot be met. To solve this problem, we introduced a novelty D2D communication mechanism in the downlink, which D2D transmitter users as half-duplex (HD) relays to assist the downlink transmission of cellular users with reusing corresponding spectrum. The optimization goal of the system is to make the cellular users in the bad channel state meet the minimum transmission rate requirement and at the same time maximize the throughput of the D2D users. In addition, i for the purpose of improving the efficiency of relay transmission, we use two-antenna architecture of D2D relay to enable receive and transmit signals at the same time. Then we optimized power of base station and D2D relay separately with consideration of backhaul interference caused by two-antenna architectures. The simulation results show that the proposed HD relay strategyis superior to existing HD and full-duplex (FD) models in the aspects of system throughput and power efficiency.
