Improving the Performance of Machine Learning Models for Anomaly Detection based on Vibration Analog Signals (진동 아날로그 신호 기반의 이상상황 탐지를 위한 기계학습 모형의 성능지표 향상)

  • New motor development requires high-speed load testing using dynamo equipment to calculate the efficiency of the motor. Abnormal noise and vibration may occur in the test equipment rotating at high speed due to misalignment of the connecting shaft or looseness of the fixation, which may lead to safety accidents. In this study, three single-axis vibration sensors for X, Y, and Z axes were attached on the surface of the test motor to measure the vibration value of vibration. Analog data collected from these sensors was used in classification models for anomaly detection. Since the classification accuracy was around only 93%, commonly used hyperparameter optimization techniques such as Grid search, Random search, and Bayesian Optimization were applied to increase accuracy. In addition, Response Surface Method based on Design of Experiment was also used for hyperparameter optimization. However, it was found that there were limits to improving accuracy with these methods. The reason is that the sampling data from an analog signal does not reflect the patterns hidden in the signal. Therefore, in order to find pattern information of the sampling data, we obtained descriptive statistics such as mean, variance, skewness, kurtosis, and percentiles of the analog data, and applied them to the classification models. Classification models using descriptive statistics showed excellent performance improvement. The developed model can be used as a monitoring system that detects abnormal conditions of the motor test.

On the Performance of Cuckoo Search and Bat Algorithms Based Instance Selection Techniques for SVM Speed Optimization with Application to e-Fraud Detection

  • Support Vector Machine (SVM) is a well-known machine learning classification algorithm, which has been widely applied to many data mining problems, with good accuracy. However, SVM classification speed decreases with increase in dataset size. Some applications, like video surveillance and intrusion detection, requires a classifier to be trained very quickly, and on large datasets. Hence, this paper introduces two filter-based instance selection techniques for optimizing SVM training speed. Fast classification is often achieved at the expense of classification accuracy, and some applications, such as phishing and spam email classifiers, are very sensitive to slight drop in classification accuracy. Hence, this paper also introduces two wrapper-based instance selection techniques for improving SVM predictive accuracy and training speed. The wrapper and filter based techniques are inspired by Cuckoo Search Algorithm and Bat Algorithm. The proposed techniques are validated on three popular e-fraud types: credit card fraud, spam email and phishing email. In addition, the proposed techniques are validated on 20 other datasets provided by UCI data repository. Moreover, statistical analysis is performed and experimental results reveals that the filter-based and wrapper-based techniques significantly improved SVM classification speed. Also, results reveal that the wrapper-based techniques improved SVM predictive accuracy in most cases.

CAD Scheme To Detect Brain Tumour In MR Images using Active Contour Models and Tree Classifiers

  • Medical imaging is one of the most powerful tools for gaining information about internal organs and tissues. It is a challenging task to develop sophisticated image analysis methods in order to improve the accuracy of diagnosis. The objective of this paper is to develop a Computer Aided Diagnostics (CAD) scheme for Brain Tumour detection from Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI) using active contour models and to investigate with several approaches for improving CAD performances. The problem in clinical medicine is the automatic detection of brain Tumours with maximum accuracy and in less time. This work involves the following steps: i) Segmentation performed by Fuzzy Clustering with Level Set Method (FCMLSM) and performance is compared with snake models based on Balloon force and Gradient Vector Force (GVF), Distance Regularized Level Set Method (DRLSE). ii) Feature extraction done by Shape and Texture based features. iii) Brain Tumour detection performed by various tree classifiers. Based on investigation FCMLSM is well suited segmentation method and Random Forest is the most optimum classifier for this problem. This method gives accuracy of 97% and with minimum classification error. The time taken to detect Tumour is approximately 2 mins for an examination (30 slices).

Detection Accuracy Improvement of Hang Region using Kinect (키넥트를 이용한 손 영역 검출의 정확도 개선)

  • Recently, the researches of object tracking and recognition using Microsoft's Kinect are being actively studied. In this environment human hand detection and tracking is the most basic technique for human computer interaction. This paper proposes a method of improving the accuracy of the detected hand region's boundary in the cluttered background. To do this, we combine the hand detection results using the skin color with the extracted depth image from Kinect. From the experimental results, we show that the proposed method increase the accuracy of the hand region detection than the method of detecting a hand region with a depth image only. If the proposed method is applied to the sign language or gesture recognition system it is expected to contribute much to accuracy improvement.

  • At present, the main method of high-speed train chassis detection is using computer vision technology to extract keypoints from two related chassis images firstly, then matching these keypoints to find the pixel-level correspondence between these two images, finally, detection and other steps are performed. The quality and accuracy of image matching are very important for subsequent defect detection. Current traditional matching methods are difficult to meet the actual requirements for the generalization of complex scenes such as weather, illumination, and seasonal changes. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the high-speed train image matching method based on deep learning. This paper establishes a high-speed train chassis image matching dataset, including random perspective changes and optical distortion, to simulate the changes in the actual working environment of the high-speed rail system as much as possible. This work designs a convolutional neural network to intensively extract keypoints, so as to alleviate the problems of current methods. With multi-level features, on the one hand, the network restores low-level details, thereby improving the localization accuracy of keypoints, on the other hand, the network can generate robust keypoint descriptors. Detailed experiments show the huge improvement of the proposed network over traditional methods.

  • In this paper, an algorithm that detects the user's finger direction using the YOLO (You Only Look Once) library was proposed. The processing stage of the proposed finger direction detection algorithm consists of a learning data management stage, a data learning stage, and a finger direction detection stage. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the distance between the camera and the finger had a very large influence on the accuracy of detecting the direction of the finger. We plan to apply this function to Turtlebot3 after improving the accuracy and reliability of the proposed algorithm in the future.

FedGCD: Federated Learning Algorithm with GNN based Community Detection for Heterogeneous Data

  • Federated learning (FL) is a ground breaking machine learning paradigm that allow smultiple participants to collaboratively train models in a cloud environment, all while maintaining the privacy of their raw data. This approach is in valuable in applications involving sensitive or geographically distributed data. However, one of the challenges in FL is dealing with heterogeneous and non-independent and identically distributed (non-IID) data across participants, which can result in suboptimal model performance compared to traditionalmachine learning methods. To tackle this, we introduce FedGCD, a novel FL algorithm that employs Graph Neural Network (GNN)-based community detection to enhance model convergence in federated settings. In our experiments, FedGCD consistently outperformed existing FL algorithms in various scenarios: for instance, in a non-IID environment, it achieved an accuracy of 0.9113, a precision of 0.8798,and an F1-Score of 0.8972. In a semi-IID setting, it demonstrated the highest accuracy at 0.9315 and an impressive F1-Score of 0.9312. We also introduce a new metric, nonIIDness, to quantitatively measure the degree of data heterogeneity. Our results indicate that FedGCD not only addresses the challenges of data heterogeneity and non-IIDness but also sets new benchmarks for FL algorithms. The community detection approach adopted in FedGCD has broader implications, suggesting that it could be adapted for other distributed machine learning scenarios, thereby improving model performance and convergence across a range of applications.

Enhancing Malware Detection with TabNetClassifier: A SMOTE-based Approach

  • Malware detection has become increasingly critical with the proliferation of end devices. To improve detection rates and efficiency, the research focus in malware detection has shifted towards leveraging machine learning and deep learning approaches. This shift is particularly relevant in the context of the widespread adoption of end devices, including smartphones, Internet of Things devices, and personal computers. Machine learning techniques are employed to train models on extensive datasets and evaluate various features, while deep learning algorithms have been extensively utilized to achieve these objectives. In this research, we introduce TabNet, a novel architecture designed for deep learning with tabular data, specifically tailored for enhancing malware detection techniques. Furthermore, the Synthetic Minority Over-Sampling Technique is utilized in this work to counteract the challenges posed by imbalanced datasets in machine learning. SMOTE efficiently balances class distributions, thereby improving model performance and classification accuracy. Our study demonstrates that SMOTE can effectively neutralize class imbalance bias, resulting in more dependable and precise machine learning models.

Network Intrusion Detection Using Transformer and BiGRU-DNN in Edge Computing

  • To address the issue of class imbalance in network traffic data, which affects the network intrusion detection performance, a combined framework using transformers is proposed. First, Tomek Links, SMOTE, and WGAN are used to preprocess the data to solve the class-imbalance problem. Second, the transformer is used to encode traffic data to extract the correlation between network traffic. Finally, a hybrid deep learning network model combining a bidirectional gated current unit and deep neural network is proposed, which is used to extract long-dependence features. A DNN is used to extract deep level features, and softmax is used to complete classification. Experiments were conducted on the NSLKDD, UNSWNB15, and CICIDS2017 datasets, and the detection accuracy rates of the proposed model were 99.72%, 84.86%, and 99.89% on three datasets, respectively. Compared with other relatively new deep-learning network models, it effectively improved the intrusion detection performance, thereby improving the communication security of network data.

Object Detection and Post-processing of LNGC CCS Scaffolding System using 3D Point Cloud Based on Deep Learning (딥러닝 기반 LNGC 화물창 스캐닝 점군 데이터의 비계 시스템 객체 탐지 및 후처리)

  • Recently, quality control of the Liquefied Natural Gas Carrier (LNGC) cargo hold and block-erection interference areas using 3D scanners have been performed, focusing on large shipyards and the international association of classification societies. In this study, as a part of the research on LNGC cargo hold quality management advancement, a study on deep-learning-based scaffolding system 3D point cloud object detection and post-processing were conducted using a LNGC cargo hold 3D point cloud. The scaffolding system point cloud object detection is based on the PointNet deep learning architecture that detects objects using point clouds, achieving 70% prediction accuracy. In addition, the possibility of improving the accuracy of object detection through parameter adjustment is confirmed, and the standard of Intersection over Union (IoU), an index for determining whether the object is the same, is achieved. To avoid the manual post-processing work, the object detection architecture allows automatic task performance and can achieve stable prediction accuracy through supplementation and improvement of learning data. In the future, an improved study will be conducted on not only the flat surface of the LNGC cargo hold but also complex systems such as curved surfaces, and the results are expected to be applicable in process progress automation rate monitoring and ship quality control.
