Performance Enhancement by Adaptation of Long Term Chronoamperometry in Direct Formic Acid Fuel Cell using Palladium Anode Catalyst

  • In the present study, we suggest a new way to reactivate performance of direct formic acid fuel cell (DFAFC) and explain its mechanism by employing electrochemical analyses like chronoamperometry (CA) and cyclic voltammogram (CV). For the evaluation of DFAFC performance, palladium (Pd) and platinum (Pt) are used as anode and cathode catalysts, respectively, and are applied to a Nafion membrane by catalyst-coated membrane spraying. After long DFAFC operation performed at 0.2 and 0.4 V and then CV test, DFAFC performance is better than its initial performance. It is attributed to dissolution of anode Pd into $Pd^{2+}$. By characterizations like TEM, Z-potential, CV and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, it is evaluated that such dissolved $Pd^{2+}$ ions lead to (1) increase in the electrochemically active surface by reduction in Pd particle size and its improved redistribution and (2) increment in the total oxidation charge by fast reaction rate of the Pd dissolution reaction.

Sinapic Acid Ameliorates REV-ERB α Modulated Mitochondrial Fission against MPTP-Induced Parkinson's Disease Model

  • Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease worldwide, and accumulating evidence indicates that mitochondrial dysfunction is associated with progressive deterioration in PD patients. Previous studies have shown that sinapic acid has a neuroprotective effect, but its mechanisms of action remain unclear. The neuroprotective effect of sinapic acid was assayed in a PD mouse model generated by the neurotoxin 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) as well as in SH-SY5Y cells. Target protein expression was detected by western blotting. Sinapic acid treatment attenuated the behavioral defects and loss of dopaminergic neurons in the PD models. Sinapic acid also improved mitochondrial function in the PD models. MPTP treatment increased the abundance of mitochondrial fission proteins such as dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1) and phospho-Drp1 Ser616. In addition, MPTP decreased the expression of the REV-ERB α protein. These changes were attenuated by sinapic acid treatment. We used the pharmacological REV-ERB α inhibitor SR8278 to confirmation of protective effect of sinapic acid. Treatment of SR8278 with sinapic acid reversed the protein expression of phospho-Drp1 Ser616 and REV-ERB α on MPTP-treated mice. Our findings demonstrated that sinapic acid protects against MPTP-induced PD and these effects might be related to the inhibiting abnormal mitochondrial fission through REV-ERB α.

Fuzzy PD Speed Controller for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors

  • This paper presents a fuzzy PD speed control scheme for the robust speed tracking of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). Motivated by the common control engineering knowledge that transient performance can be improved if the P gain is big and the D gain is small in the beginning, a linearizing control scheme with a fuzzy PD controller is proposed. The global system stability is analyzed and the proposed control algorithm is implemented using a TMS320F28335 DSP. Simulation and experimental results are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Partially-depleted Silicon on insulator metal-oxide-semiconductor field- effect transistors (PD-SOI MOSFETs) with Silicon-germanium (SiGe) layer is investigated. This structure uses SiGe layer to reduce the kink effect in the floating body region near the bottom channel/buried oxide interface. Among many design parameters influencing the performance of the device, Ge composition is presented most predominant effects, simulation results show that kink effect is reduced with increase the Ge composition. Because the bandgap of SiGe layer is reduced at higher Ge composition, the hole current between body and SiGe layer is enhanced.

  • Recently, Datta at al. [1] have developed a metDattad of obtaining the complete set of stabilizing PI, PID controllers for a given LTI system, in which tDattase are determined by solving a set of linear inequalities parameterized by the proportional(P) gain. In this paper, we provide a note about Dattaw Datta's idea can be extended to the problem of finding all stabilizing PD controllers and about an improved metDattad that allows us to calculate the admissible range of P gain more rigorously. An illustrative example is given.

  • Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder. Although its major manifestation is motor symptoms, resulting from the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra, psychiatric symptoms, such as depression, anxiety, hallucination, delusion, apathy and anhedonia, impulsive and compulsive behaviors, and cognitive dysfunction, may also manifest in most patients with PD. Given that the quality of life - and the need for institutionalization - is so highly dependent on the psychiatric well-being of patients with PD, psychiatric symptoms are of high clinical significance. We reviewed the prevalence, risk factors, pathophysiology, and treatment of psychiatric symptoms to get a better understanding of PD for improved management.

Bimetallic Pd@Ni-mesoporous TiO2 nanocatalyst for highly improved and selective hydrogenation of carbonyl compounds under UV light radiation

  • Bimetallic Pd@Ni nanostructure exhibited enhanced co-catalytic activity for the selective hydrogenation of benzaldehyde compare to their monometallic counterparts. Impregnation of these mono/bimetallic nanostructures on mesoporous $TiO_2$ leads to several surface modifications. The bimetallic PNT-3 ($Pd_3@Ni_1/mTiO_2$) exhibited large surface area ($212m^2g^{-1}$), and low recombination rate of the charge carriers ($e^--h^+$). The hydrogenation reaction was analyzed under controlled experiments. It was observed that under UV-light irradiations and saturated hydrogen atmosphere the bimetallic PNT-3 photocatalyst display higher rate constant $k=5.31{\times}10^{-1}h^{-1}$ owing to reduction in the barrier height which leads to efficiently transfer of electron at bimetallic/$mTiO_2$ interface.

Pd/Co 다층박막의 구조 및 자기적 특성에 미치는 기판온도 및 열적안정성에 관한 연구 (Thermal Stability and the Effect of Substrate Temperature on the Structural and Magnetic Properties of Pd/Co Multilayer Films)

  • Pd/Co 다층박막을 동시열증착장치로 제작하여, 토오크 자력계, 홀 효과 측정장치 및 X-선 회절기를 이용하여 기판 온도, Pd하지층에 따른 구조적 자기적 및 열적 특성변화를 연구하였다. 기판 온도가 증가함에 따라 $150^{\circ}C$까지는 계면구조 및 각 층의 결정성이 향상되고, (111) 집합조직이 발달되었으며 따라서 계면자기이방성 및 수직자기 이방성에너지는 증가하였다. 그러나 보자력은 감소 하였는데 이는 입자의 성장으로 인한 자구벽 고착효과 감소에 기인된 것으로 보이며 Pd하지층이 두꺼 울 수록 다층박막의 입자크기는 컸다. $200^{\circ}C$ 이상에서는 계면에서 상호확산에 의하여 다층막의 구조의 열화는 촉진되었다. 열처리 초기에 주 피이크 강도의 변화는 컸으며 그 후부터는 작은 폭으로 감소하였다. 초기의 큰 강도 변화는 구조이완등의 현상에 기인된 것으로 추측되며 그 후는 확산에 의 해서이다. 다층박막의 상호확산에 필요한 활성화 에너지는 14.9 KCal/mole.K 였다.

파킨슨 병(PD)의 후각기능 장애에 대한 호흡 명상 기공 효과 (Effects of Breathing, Meditation and Qigong on the Impairable Dysfunction of Olfactory Sense in the Parkinson's Disease)

  • 목적 : 특발성파킨슨병(PD)은 운동증상(떨림, 운동 완서, 경직)과 비운동증상(통찰력과 인지 장애, 기분의 불편함, 우울증, 불안증, 후각 기능장애)이 있다. 이 연구는 호흡, 명상 및 기공 치유로 PD 비운동증상의 개선 효과를 탐색하는 것이 목적이다. 방법 : PD가 있는 대상자(11명)에게 An's-4444힐링호흡, An's관정힐링명상, An's힐링기공치유의 3단계를 1회에 80분 동안 12회 수행하고 치유 전후, 1개월 경과 후 3회 측정하여 측정치를 비교 평가하였다. 결과 : 12회 치유 후 통찰력과 인지장애에 대한 통합 파킨슨병 등급척도(UPDRSI) 수치는 69%, 우울증척도(HAMD)는 61%, 불안증(HAMA)은 64%, 후각 기능장애 냄새식별 테스트(TSI)는 82%로 각각 개선되었다. 치유 1개월 경과 후의 수치는 4개 척도 모두 차이가 없었다. 이는 치유 후 1개월 경과 후까지 효과가 유지됨을 의미한다. 결론 : An's 호흡, 명상 및 기공요법으로 PD비운동증상이 유의성 있게 개선되었다. 특히 후각기능장애 개선으로, 향기를 맡게 되어 삶의 만족도가 향상되었다. 결과는 호흡, 명상 및 기공요법이 PD의 비운동성 증상을 개선 및 치유하는 자연요법으로 가치가 있다고 판단하며, 의생명과학적 추가 연구가 필요하다.

클러스터링 기반의 CR시스템에서 가중치 협력 스펙트럼 센싱 기술의 개선연구 (Improved Weighted-Collaborative Spectrum Sensing Scheme Using Clustering in the Cognitive Radio System)

  • 본 논문은 클러스터링 기법을 도입하여 기존에 제안된 가중치 협력 스펙트럼 시스템에서 실질적으로 구하지 못했던 Pd를 구하고, 새로운 가중치 생성 알고리즘을 통하여 1차 사용자 신호의 감지 성능을 향상시키는 방법을 제안하였다. 유사한 채널을 같는 CR 사용자를 클러스터링 기법을 이용하여 그룹화하여 각각의 사용자로부터 획득한 센싱 결과를 토대로 Pd를 계산하였다. 또한, 각 클러스터의 검출확률의 제곱 합을 이용하여 가중치(Wj(n+1))를 생성하였다. 이는 기존의 방식보다 센싱 성능이 우수하였으며, 특히 1차 사용자의 신호가 갑자기 사라졌을 경우 신호가 없는 상황에서의 검출 확률인 false alarm rate가 낮아지는 결과를 보였다. 컴퓨터 모의실험을 통하여 이를 검증한다.
