  • A numerical analysis has been performed through implicit dynamic finite element analysis using the commercial package, ABAQUS in order to investigate effect of laser peening on welding residual stress mitigation of dissimilar metal welds in a safety injection nozzle of integral reactor. The implicit dynamic finite element analysis are compared with the previous experimental results. By comparison, it is identified that the implicit dynamic finite element analysis is valid for residual stress mitigation via laser peening. Implicit static finite element residual stress analysis has been performed for the dissimilar metal welds subject to inner repair welding. The analysis results represent that both axial and hoop residual stresses are tensile on inner surface of safety injection nozzle due to inner repair welding. Also Parametric study has performed to investigate effect of laser peening variables such as maximum impact pressure, duration time of pressure, spot diameter and peening direction on the welding residual stress mitigation. As a result, it is found that laser peening has the preventive maintenance effect to mitigate mainly residual stresses of region near inner surface.

  • Recent the advanced technologies in medical imaging such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) make doctors improve the diagnostic skill with detailed anatomical information. In general, it is necessary to get a number of MRI images in order to obtain more detail information. However, the performance of MRI machines of privately run hospitals is not good and thus we may obtain only a few of MRI images. If 3D surface reconstruction is accomplished with a few slices, then it generates 3D surface of poor qualify. This paper propose a way to Set a 3D surface of high quality from a few of number of slices. First of all, our algorithm detects the boundary of tissues which we want to reconstruct as a 3D object and find out the set of vortices on the boundary. And then we generate a 3D implicit surface to interpolate the boundary points by using radial basis function. Lastly, we render the 3D implicit surface by using Marching cube algorithms.

  • A study of the shock wave turbulent boundary layer interaction is presented. The focus of the study is the interactions of the shock waves with the turbulent boundary layer on the falt plate. Three examples are investigated. The computations are performed, using mixed explicit-implicit generalized Galerkin finite element method. The linear equations at each time step are solved by a preconditioned GMRES algorithm. Numerical results indicate that the implicit scheme converges to the asymptotic steady state much faster than the explicit counterpart. The computed surface pressures and skin friction coefficients display good agreement with experimental data. The flowfield manifests a complex shock wave system and a pair of counter-rotating vortices.

  • Many efforts for finding smooth curves and surfaces satisfying given constraints have been made, and interpolation and approximation theories with the help of computers have played an important role in this endeavour. Most research in curve and surface modeling has been largely dominated by the theory of parametric representations. While they have been successfully used in representing physical objects, parametric surfaces are confronted with some problems when objects are represented and manipulated in geometric modeling systems. In recent year, increasing attention has been paid to implicit algebraic surfaces since they are often more effective than parametric surfaces are. In this paper, we summarize the geometric properties and computational processes of objects represented using implicit algebraic functions and explain of the implementation of design tools which can design curves and surfaces of revolution. These surfaces of revolution are played an importance role in effective areas such as CAD and CAM.

  • A three-dimensional, finite difference, numerical model with free surface was developed on ${\sigma}$-coordinate. A semi-implicit numerical scheme in time has been adopted for computational efficiency. The scheme is essentially independent of the stringent stability criteria (CFL condition) for explicit schemes of external surface gravity wave. Implicit algorithm was applied for vertical shear stress, Coriolis force and pressure gradient terms. The reliability of the model with vertically variable grid system was checked by the comparison of simulation results with analytic solution of wind-driven currents in a one-dimensional channel. Sensitivity analysis of differencing parameters was carried out by applying the model to the calculation of wind-driven currents in a square lake.

  • The two dimensional time dependent flow past a circular cylinder is analyzed numerically. In the analysis, equations of conservation of mass and momentum are transformed to equations of stream function-vorticity and vorticity transport, and nondimensionalized by nondimensional parameters representing flow characteristics, The resulting stream function-vorticity equstion and vorticity transport equation are solved by successive over relaxation scheme and alternating direct implicit scheme. Numerical experments are performed for the flow in the range of Reynolds number 125 to 275. The time dependent streamlines, vorticities, pressure on cylinder surface, separation angle, and drag and lift coefficients are calculated, and the method for estimation of pressure on cylinder surface and the outer boundary limit are developed.

  • The impact of a single wave generated by a dam break with a tall structure is modeled with a three-dimensional version of the Moving particle semi-implicit (MPS) method. The particle method is more feasible and effective than methods based on grid connection problems involving violent free surface motions. In the present study, the Tsunami impact load and the change of longitudinal velocity component around the structure, which are obtained from the numerical simulation, are compared to those from experiments.
