The formulation of a new bridge-vehicle system using shell with eccentric beam elements has been introduced in a companion paper (Part I). The new system takes into account of the contribution of the twisting and pitching modes of vehicles to the bridge responses. It can also be used to study the dynamic transverse load distribution of a bridge. This paper presents a parametric study on the impact induced by one vehicle or multi-vehicle running across a bridge using the proposed model. Several parameters were considered as variables including the mass ratio, the speed parameter, the frequency ratio and the axle spacing parameter to investigate their effects on the impact factor. A total number of 189 cases were carried out in this parametric study. Within the realistic range of vehicle considered, the maximum impact factors could be 2.24, 1.78 and 1.49 for bridges with spans 10 m, 20 m and 30 m respectively.

In this study, the Impact resistance of steel fiber and organic fiber reinforced concrete and mortar was evaluated and the improvement in toughness resulting from an increase in compressive strength and mixing fiber for impact resistance on performance was examined. The types of fiber were steel fiber, PP and PVA, and these were mixed in at 0.1, 0.5 and 1.0 vol.%, respectively. Impact resistance is evaluated with an apparatus for testing impact resistance performance by high-speed projectile crash by gas-pressure. For the experimental conditions, Specimen size was $100{\times}100{\times}20$, 30mm ($width{\times}height{\times}thickness$). Projectile diameter was 7 and 10 mm and impact speed is 350m/s. After impact test, destruction grade, penetration depth, spalling thickness and crater area were evaluated. Through this evaluation, it was found that as compressive strength is increased, penetration is suppressed. In addition, as the mixing ratio of fiber is increased, the spalling thickness and crater area are suppressed. Organic fibers have lower density than the steel fiber, and population number per unit area is bigger. As a result, the improvement of impact resistance is more significant thanks to dispersion and degraded attachment performance.

Accident statistics shows that the portion of fatal occupant injuries due to side impacts is considerably high. The side impact usually leads to a severe intrusion of side structure into the passenger compartment. Furthermore, the safety zone for the side impact is relatively small compared to the front impact. Those kinds of physics for side impact frequently result in a fatal injury for the occupant. Therefore, NHTSA and EEVC are trying to intensify the regulation for the occupant protection against side impact. Both the regulation and recent market trends are asking for an installation of side airbag. There are several types of system configuration for side impact sensing. In this paper, we adopt the acceleration-based remote sensing method for the side airbag control system. We mainly focus on the development of hardware and crash discrimination algorithm of remote sensing unit. The crash discrimination algorithm needs fast decision of airbag firing especially for high-speed side impact such as FMVSS 214 and EEVC tests. It is also required to distinguish between low-speed fire and no-fire events. The algorithm should have a sufficient safety margin against any misuse situation such as hammer blow, door slam, etc. This paper introduces several firing criteria such as acceleration. velocity and energy criteria that use physical value proportional to crash severity. We have made a simulation program by using Matlab/Simulink to implement the proposed algorithm. We have conducted an algorithm calibration by using real crash data for 2,500cc vehicle. The crash performance obtained by the simulation was verified through a pulse injection method. It turned out that the results satisfied the system requirements well.
In the design of high speed railway bridges is important a impact factor as a tool of assessing the dynamic capacitys of bridges. However, the impact factor(or dynamic amplification factor, DAF) of high speed railway bridges may essentially be changeable because the dynamic response is affected by the long train length(380 m), number of axles and high speed velocity(300 km/h)(Korea Train eXpress: KTX). Therefore, on this study will be examined the dynamic capacity and stability of the typical PSC Box Girder of high speed railway bridge. At first, the static/dynamic analysis is performed considering the axle load line of KTX based upon existing references. Additionally, the KTX moving load is transformed into the dynamic time series load for conducting various parameter studies like axle length, analytical time increment, velocity of KTX. The time history analysis is repeatedly performed to get maximum dynamic responce by varying axle load length, analytical time increment, velocity of KTX. The study shows that dynamic analysis has resonable results with optimal axle load length(0.6 m) and time increment(0.01 sec.) and maximum DAF and dynamic resonance happens at 270 km/h velocity of KTX.
In order to obtain the dynamic response behavior of the rock subjected to blasting loading, a shock-proof high sensitivity impact sensor which can measure high frequency dynamic force and strain events should be adopted. Because the impact sensors which uses quartz and piezoelectric element are costly, generally the strain measurement-based impact (SMI) sensors are applied to high speed loading devices. In this study, dynamic Brazilian tension tests of granitic rocks was conducted using the Nonex Rock Cracker (NRC) reaction driven-high speed loading device which adopts SMI sensors. The dynamic response of the granite specimens were monitored and the intermediate strain rate dependency of Brazilian tensile strengths was discussed.
Newly constructed, high-rise dense building areas by urban development can cause changes in local wind fields. Wind fields were analyzed to assess the impact on the local meteorology due to the land use changes during the urban redevelopment called "Eunpyeong new town" in north-western Seoul using CFD_NIMR_SNU (Computational Fluid Dynamics, National Institute of Meteorological Research, Seoul National University) model. Initial value of wind speed and direction use analysis value of AWS (Automatic Weather Station) data during 5 years. In the case of the pre-construction with low rise built-up area, it was simulated that the spatial distribution of horizontal wind fields depends on the topography and wind direction of initial inflow. But, in the case of the post-construction with high rise built-up area, it was analyzed that the wind field was affected by high rise buildings as well as terrain. High-rise buildings can generate new circulations among buildings. In addition, small size vortexes were newly generated by terrain and high rise buildings after the construction. As high-rise buildings act as a barrier, we found that the horizontal wind flow was separated and wind speed was reduced behind the buildings. CFD_NIMR_SNU was able to analyze the impact of high-rise buildings during the urban development. With the support of high power computing, it will be more common to utilize sophisticated numerical analysis models such as CFD_NIMR_SNU in evaluating the impact of urban development on wind flow or channel.

To ensure the reliability and safety of various mechanical systems in accordance with their high-speed usage, it is necessary to evaluate the dynamic deformation behavior of structural materials under impact load. However, it is not easy to understand the dynamic deformation behavior of the structural materials using experimental methods in the high strain-rate range exceeding $10^4\;s^{-1}$. In this study, the Taylor bar impact test was conducted to investigate the dynamic deformation behavior of metallic materials in the high strain-rate region, using a high-speed photography system. Numerical analysis of the Taylor bar impact test was performed using AUTODYN S/W. The results of the analysis were compared with the experimental results, and the material behavior in the high strain-rate region was discussed.
The purpose of this study was to clarify the differences in service patterns of a forward and backward soft tennis players using 3D motion analyzer. Subjects were 4 forward players of $24.0\pm5.23$yrs and 4 backward players of $23.5\pm1.73$yrs. The results were as following: 1. There was no difference among each positions on swinging-time. The longest racket swinging-time was in the phase of takeback, the second one was in follow-through. The shortest one was in the phase of forward-swing so called force production phase, which had an influence on ball's velocity. 2. The racket speed on impact was 16.3m/s in forward subject and 19.53m/s in backward subject, when each velocity of balls was 44.6m/s, 52.9m/s. Although there was no significant difference along by positions, backward subject showed faster result. 3. The maximum speed of each performance was reached before the impact, and the speed at impact along by positions did not show any significant difference. The summation of velocity was measured in good order as following; hip, shoulder, elbow, wrist, top of racket. 4. In the angular velocity of all examine except one, the angular velocity of forearm was bigger than the one of racket top although there was no statistically significant difference between forward and backward subject. 5. The service grip of the forward players was shorter than that of backward players.
Electromagnetic forming(EMF) is one of the high-speed forming methods, and has been used to deform metal sheets. The advantages of electromagnetic forming are reduced wrinkling due to non-contact characteristic and fine formability because of the high speed impact. In the current study, we suggest the application of electromagnetic forming to emboss pattern shapes using electromagnetic forces with only one forming coil and one punch. The high impact of the sheet at speeds of 100~300m/s produces significant coining pressure. In the current paper, electromagnetic forming was applied to Al 1100-O sheets; with thickness of 1.27mm and an area of $40mm{\times}40mm$. Using a single spiral coil, totally different types of patterns were created. Four different patterns were successfully produced on the aluminum sheet. The length and depth of the patterns were measured by three-dimensional scanning. Comparisons to the die shape showed good agreement. The test results confirm that emboss pattern forming by EMF using a single die can be used to replace the costly conventional method.

This paper presents the experimental results at slamming phenomenon. The air pressure cylinder was used to ensure repeatability of the impact. The results showed that the adopted experimental technique was very excellent in terms of repeatability when is compared to that of the free drop tests. The pressure time histories, magnitude of peak pressure and the behavior of jet spray were obtained. The flat specimen was tested for various incident angles. To estimate the incident speed of the specimen high speed camera was used. The high speed camera was also useful tool in understanding the behavior.
