질화유리의 고속충돌 저항물성 (A Resistance Property Against High Velocity Impact on Oxynitride Glasses)

  • Several oxynitride glasses were fabricated by means of adding $Si_3N_4$ powders as nitrogen source to Ca-Al-Si-O-N (CAS) and Mg-Al-Si-O-N (MAS) glass powders, and heat-treated in graphite crucible at 1600$^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The physical and mechanical properties as well as impact resistance were generally increased and compared with each other. The impact resistance properties of those manufactured glasses were evaluated by DOP (depth of penetration) method which is a way to analyze armor materials. There were two means to be used herein; the copper jet impacted at hyper velocity by exploding K2l5 warhead and tungsten heavy alloy (WHA) impact bar at high velocity by firing in 30 mm solid propellent gun. The impact resistance properties against copper jet were increased and then decreased with increasing nitrogen content, while those against WHA bar were not changed apparently with nitrogen content.

  • In this study, the property against low velocity of the compesite material, which will be applied a rail vehicle, is shown using experiment and a finite element code. The property can be denoted the resistance of impact force, which is defined by maximum impact force over damage area. A damage propagation model is necessary to estimate accurately the impact property of a composite material through FEM code.

Hydrolysis Resistance and Mechanical Property Changes of Glass Fiber Filled Polyketone Composites Upon Glass Fiber Concentration

  • Hydrolysis resistance and mechanical property changes of polyketone (POK)/glass fiber (GF) composites were investigated for GF concentrations varying between 30 and 50%. The hydrolysis resistance of GF filled POK and polyamide66 (PA66, hydrolysis resistant grade) composites were compared. As shown by the experimental results, increasing the immersion time of the composites in a monoethylene glycol (MEG)/water solution at $120^{\circ}C$ had no impact or resulted in slightly decreased mechanical properties such as the tensile strength, tensile modulus, and strain at break in case of POK composites, whereas the mechanical properties of PA66 composites showed a significant drop. Increasing GF concentrations increased the tensile strength, tensile modulus, flexural strength, and flexural modulus of POK composites; however, impact strength did not show significant changes. Hydrolysis mechanisms of POK and PA66 are discussed.

이상계 스테인레스 강 용접부의 인성과 내식성 거동 (Property differences between GTAW and SMAW duplex stainless steel weld metal)

  • Mechanical and corrosion property of duplex stainless steel weldments made by the GTAW and SMAW process were studied. Fracture toughness, general and local corrosion resistance of GTAW and SMAW weldments were evaluated in terms of Charpy V notch impact test, anodic polarization diagram, pitting corrosion rate, respectively. SMA weld metal showed much lower impact toughness and higher ductile-brittle transition temperature than GTA weld metal. Fractographic and EDX analysis on fracture surface of SMA weld metal demonstrated the existence of (Si, Ti), oxide in large amounts. Potentiodynamic anodic polarization diagram of GMA weld metal showed much lower passive current density than SMA weld metal in 4% $H_2/SO_4$ solution. And pitting corrosion rate test showed the same tendency. Relating the microstructure, chemistry and property, it can be concluded that GTA weld metal gives better toughness due to lower oxygen content, i.e. lower inclusion content, and better corrosion resistance due to higher Pitting Index(PI) than SMA weld metal.

고속 구리제트에 대한 알루미나-탄화규소 복합재료의 충돌 저항물성 (Impact Resistance of Al2O3-SiC Composites Against High Velocity Copper Jet)

  • The mechanical properties of $Al_2O_3$-SiC composites manufactured with adding various amount and size of SiC particles have been measured and analyzed. Generally, the elastic modulus of the composites shows about 50% less than that of PL-8 (45 wt% $Al_2O_3$-51 wt% $SiO_2$-4 wt% other oxides), but the flexural strength is similar with each other. The impact resistance property of $Al_2O_3$-SiC composite against high velocity copper jet was lower than that of PL-8 when SiC particles of approximately 3 $\mu$m diameter was added to. It is caused probably due to the micro-pores made by oxidation of SiC particles. However, in the case of the less-weighted $Al_2O_3$-SiC composite adding to 10 wt% SiC with average diameter of 10 $\mu$m and sintering at 1200$^{\circ}C$, the impact resistance property was improved up to 37 percent compared with that of PL-8.

  • The glass-SiC composites have been manufactured via viscous flow of glass for investigating their sinterability and various properties. The relative density of 99.6% could be achieved when 5 wt% SiC was mixed with glass powder, glass-rearranged at 460$^{\circ}C$ for 3 h and then sintered at 665$^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The sintered density was decreased as adding more than 5 wt% SiC to glass powder. The resistance properties against hyper velocity copper jet formed by explosion of K215 warhead were compared with other ceramics such as $Al_2O_3$ and pyrex, resulting in lower values than that of $Al_2O_3$.

  • In this study, flexural strength and impact resistance were evaluated to investigate the fiber length effect of amorphous metallic fiber. As a result, in the case of 30AFRCC, cutoff behavior due to excellent bonding performance by large specific surface area has greatly influence on the flexural and impact resistance performance. In the case of 15AFRCC, the bonding efficiency is relatively low, because the specific surface area is smaller than that of 30AFRCC and the number of fiber is large, so the effect of improving the flexural and impact resistance performance is smaller than that of 30AFRCC.

Abrasion and Impact Wear Resistance of the Fe­based Hardfacing Weld by Dispersing the Recycled WC

  • The abrasion and impact wear resistance were investigated on the hardfacing weld dispersed with the recycled hard metal(HM). The HM was composed of the tungsten carbide(WC) reinforced metal matrix composite. The cored wire filled with the 35 wt.% HM and 0­6 wt.% of the alloying element, Fe­75Mn­7C(FeMnC), was used for the gas metal arc(GMA) welding. The FeMnC addition to the 35 wt.% HM did not improve the abrasion wear property since the amount of the tungsten carbide formed was decreased with respect to the FeMnC amount. However, the 6 wt.% FeMnC addition to the 35 wt.% HM exhibited the better impact wear resistance than the hardfacing weld by the 40 wt.% HM.

  • The purpose of this study in to evaluate relationship between mechanical properties of materials and fiber type by reinforced fiber with high-velocity impact fracture behavior of fiber reinforced concrete. As a result, for fracture behavior by high-velocity impact, it is considered that impact fracture behavior is not affected by static mechanical properties directly but affected by fiber type and density of the number of fiber. It is necessary to consider type, shape, mechanical properties and the number of fiber with flexural and tensile performance for the evaluation on impact resistance performance of fiber reinforced concrete.

Scrap PVB/PMMA 블렌드에 미치는 MBS의 상용화효과(相溶化效果) (The Effect of MBS on the Compatibility of Scrap PVB/PMMA Blends)

  • PVB was blended with PMMA in order to recycle scraped PVB material which recovered in the safety glass manufactories. The purpose of this research on PVB/PMMA blend was applied with excellent tackiness and transparency of PVB as a material of high strength to make the maximum use. Also, the blending of PVB with PMMA was aimed at the increase of impact strength of PMMA because the elastic property of PVB might decrease the brittleness of PMMA due to the lack of inner impact resistance. Izod impact resistance was propotional to increase the content of PVB, which was predominantly increased in the addition of 10phr above MBS. High rate impact resistance showed a tendency to Increase but it showed a tendency to decrease maximum load and energy if the contents of PVB increased. On the other hand total energy and ductile index showed a tendency to increase excellent impact resistance in the addition of MBS contents. As a result of observed surface of PVB/PMMA blends, the size of PVB domain increased distribution homogenuously, in the addited MBS contents increased it showed distribution homogeneously and partially a wetability.
