A Study on the Prediction Technique of Impact Dispersion Area for Flight Safety Analysis (비행안전분석을 위한 낙하분산영역 예측 기법에 대한 연구)

  • Flight safety analyses concerned with Launch Vehicle are performed to measure the risk to the people, ship and aircraft using impact point and impact dispersion area of debris generated by on-trajectory failures and malfunction turns. Predictions of impact point and impact dispersion area are essential for launch vehicle's flight safety analysis. Usually, impact dispersion area can be estimated in using Monte-Carlo simulation. However, Monte-Carlo method requires more several hundreds of iterative calculations which requires quite some time to produce impact dispersion area. Herein, we check the possibility of applying JU(Julier Uhlmann) transformation and Taguchi method instead of Monte-Carlo method and we propose a best method in terms of compuational time to produce impact dispersion area by comparing the results of the three methods.

Analysis on Trajectory and Impact Point Dispersion of Test Launch Vehicle (시험발사체 궤적 및 낙하점 분산 분석)

  • This paper considers the trajectory and impact point dispersion analysis of the test launch vehicle (TLV). The analysis, which performed before and after its flight test on November 28, 2018, is described and verified by comparing with the flight test results. The six degree-offreedom (DOF) simulation is used to compute the dispersion of the trajectory, attitude, and impact point, where the launch vehicle performance variations and wind effects during the atmospheric phase are included. The impact area to guarantee the flight safety is determined using the results of the dispersion analysis. The flight test results confirm that the safe flight of TLV is performed within the predicted dispersion boundary.

The Real -Time Dispersion Modeling System

  • The real-time modeling system, named AirWatch System, has been developed to evaluate the environmental impact from a large source. It consists of stack TMS (TeleMetering System) that measures the emission data from the source, AWS (Automatic Weather Station) that monitors the weather data and computer system with the dispersion modeling software. The modeling theories used in the system are Gaussian plume and puff models. The Gaussian plume model is used for the dispersion in the simple terrain with a point meteorological data while the puff model is for the dispersion in complex terrain with three dimensional wind fields. The AirWatch System predicts the impact of the emitted pollutants from the large source on the near-by environment on the real -time base and the alarm is issued to control the emission rate if the calculated concentrations exceed the modeling significance level.

  • If a failure or an abnormal maneuver occurs during the flight test of a missile, the missile is deliberately self-destructed so as not to continue the flight. At this time, debris are produced and it is important to estimate the impact area in real-time whether it is out of the safety area. In this paper, we propose a method to estimate the debris dispersion area and falling time in real-time using a Fully-Connected Neural Network (FCNN). We applied the Unscented Transform (UT) to generate a large amount of training data. UT parameters were selected by comparing with Monte-Carlo (MC) simulation to secure reliability. Also, we analyzed the performance of the proposed method by comparing the estimation result of MC.

  • Impact pathway analysis(IPA) is a bottom-up approach to estimates health and environmental risks from emissions of classical pollutants (eg. $PM_{10}$, $SO_2$, $NO_x$ and CO). The model starts from the emission rates of facility, calculates the yearly mean concentrations of pollutants at the ground level using atmospheric dispersion models. After this, proper epidemiological exposure-response functions are applied to determine the impact on the receptors. Finally the methodology can monetise the calculated physical impact on the basis of selected economic evaluation. The aim of this study is to evaluate an external cost of virtual point source in Suwon area using IPA. The results shows minor modification of local input data can make it possible to apply the model to Suwon area.

  • The extent of impact dispersion is a function of parameters including gun geometry and tolerances, the foe control system, projectile manufacturing tolerances, etc. The study here investigates potential impact point accuracy improvement for a projectile realized by replacing the rigid nose cone wind screen with a passive nose. Toward this end, a nose projectile dynamic model is derived which consists of the standard six degrees of freedom similar to a rigid projectile plus three additional degrees of freedom associated with rotation of the nose with respect to the main projectile body. By Observing the pitch and yaw movement of the nose in the simulation results, it is believed to be possible to reduce the effects of uncertainties which is occurred at firing step.

  • Trajectory dispersion models are used for the dispersion calculations in air quality assessments, Yellow-sand modeling, environmental planning and the emergency response. Meso-scale forcing and coastal circulations are calculated by trajectory model in the East Asia region. In this study the meteorological fields (GDAS and MM5) coupled to the trajectory model (HY-SPLIT) are applied to simulate the transport and the dispersion. Seoul is selected as a starting point of the HY-SPLIT. The sensitivity studies are performed by conducting an ensemble of simulations using the GDAS and the MM5 model for the same dispersion cases. The results in this study show a significant difference depending on the resolution of meteorological models. Additionally, in most cases of the compared tionally,results from MM5 and GDAS, the absolute and relative distance, shows significant difference and the difference increased with the increasing distance of HY-SPLIT. Therefore, for the case of small domai for twi d field distefbution over complex terrai, should be used only high model temporal or spatial resolution to improve the HY-SPLIT model results.

A study on the Development of TCM Urban and Rural mode for Environmental Impact Assessment (환경영향평가를 위한 도시형과 교외형 TCM 개발에 관한 연구)

  • TCM has been used for many environmental impact assessments in Korea. But there was reported that an error was found in area source calculation of original TCM and modified. In this study, TUM(TCM-urban mode) and TRM(TCM-rural mode) were developed for urban and rural area by modification of original TCM. McElroy-Pooler dispersion parameter was used for area and point source in TUM, Pasquill-Gifford parameter was used for area and point source in TRM. And Irwin's vertical wind speed profile exponents were used for TUM and TRM. Then predicted value by TUM, TRM and a value from the same area and point data by CDM2, ISCLT3 were compared. And it was found that predicted value from point source by TUM, TRM was very similar to a value by CDM2, ISCLT3, and predicted value from area source by TRM was similar to a value by CDM2, ISCLT3. But predicted value from area: source by TUM was an half lower than a value by CDM2, ISCLT3.

Analyzing Effective Factors on Hydrogen Release Based on Response Surface Method and Analysis of Variance (반응표면법과 ANOVA 기반의 수소 누출에 대한 유효인자 분석)

  • While hydrogen is widely used, it has a low minimum ignition energy, raising safety concerns when using it. This research studied which parameters are the key variables in the hydrogen release and diffusion. These parameters were divided into six process variables in the initial release and two environmental variables in the dispersion. One hundred and twenty cases were selected through design of experiment, and the end-point in each case were analyzed using PHAST. Afterwards, an end-point prediction model was developed using RSM and ANOVA, and the impact of each variable on the endpoint was analyzed. As a result, the influence of eight variables was graded. The nozzle diameter had the greatest influence on the end-point, while the pipe roughness coefficient had no effect on the end-point. It is expected that these results will be used as basic data to improve safety across all fields of hydrogen handling facilities.

Effects of Upset Pressure on Weldability in the Friction Welding of Cu to Cu-W Sintered Alloy (동-텅스텐 소결합금(Cu-W)과 동(Cu)의 마찰용접 특성에 미치는 업셋압력의 영향에 관한 연구)

  • A copper-tungsten sintered alloy(Cu-W) has been friction welded to a tough pitch copper in order to investigate the effect of upset pressure on friction weldability. Under the condition of friction time 0.8sec, upset pressure 150MPa, the tensile strength and Charpy impact value of the friction welded joint were 336MPa, $400KJ/m^2$ respectively. And highest temperature of the weld measured was below $800^{circ}K$ which is very lower than melting point of Cu($1356^{circ}K$). Under the same conditions, W grains picked up in Cu matrix from Cu-W profitably affected on these mechanical fracture, and were dispersed in Cu by plastic flow during brake time.
