The concrete structures related to nuclear safety are threatened by accidental impact loadings, mainly including the low-velocity drop-weight impact (e.g., spent fuel cask and assembly, etc. with the velocity less than 20 m/s) and high-speed projectile impact (e.g., steel pipe, valve, turbine bucket, etc. with the velocity higher than 20 m/s), while the existing studies are still limited in the impact resistant design of nuclear power plant (NPP), especially the primary RC slab. This paper aims to propose the numerical simulation and theoretical approaches to assist the impact-resistant design of RC slab in NPP. Firstly, the continuous surface cap (CSC) model parameters for concrete with the compressive strength of 20-70 MPa are fully calibrated and verified, and the refined numerical simulation approach is proposed. Secondly, the two-degree freedom (TDOF) model with considering the mutual effect of flexural and shear resistance of RC slab are developed. Furthermore, based on the low-velocity drop hammer tests and high-speed soft/hard projectile impact tests on RC slabs, the adopted numerical simulation and TDOF model approaches are fully validated by the flexural and punching shear damage, deflection, and impact force time-histories of RC slabs. Finally, as for the two low-velocity impact scenarios, the design procedure of RC slab based on TDOF model is validated and recommended. Meanwhile, as for the four actual high-speed impact scenarios, the impact-resistant design specification in Chinese code NB/T 20012-2019 is evaluated, the over conservation of which is found, and the proposed numerical approach is recommended. The present work could beneficially guide the impact-resistant design and safety assessment of NPPs against the accidental impact loadings.

One of the objectives to prevent building pounding between two adjacentstructures is to considerseparation distance or decrease relative displacement during seismic excitation. Although the majority of building codes around the world have basically suggested some equations or approximately recommended various distances between structuresto avoid pounding hazard, but a lot of reportsin zone of pounding have obviously shown thatsafety situation or economic consideration are not always provided due to the collisions between buildings and the cost of land, respectively. For this purpose, a dynamic MDOF model by having base isolation system is numerically considered and using various earthquake records, relative displacements are mathematically investigated. Different equations to determine the value of damping ratio are collected and the results of evaluations are listed for comparison among them to present a new equation for determination of impact damping ratio. Presented equation is depends significantly on impact velocity before and after impact based on artificial neural network, which the accuracy of them is investigated and also confirmed. In order to select the optimum equation, hysteresisloop of impact between base of building and rubber bumper is considered and compared with the hysteresis loop of each impact, calculated by different equations. Finally, using representative equation, the effect of thickness, number and stiffness of rubber bumpers are numerically investigated. The results of analysis indicate that stiffness and number of bumpers have significantly affected in zone of impact force while the thickness of bumpers have not shown significant influence to calculate impact force during earthquake. For instance, increasing the number of bumpers, gap size between structures and also the value of stiffness is caused to decrease impact force between models. The final evaluation demonstrates that bumpers are able to decrease peak lateral displacement of top story during impact.
The initial impact at foot strike is produced by a slider type mechanical model, which can be measured using a force platform to evaluate various shoes. The lower extremity and foot motion was filmed by a 16mm high speed movie camera and several points on the rear half of the shoe and those near the trochanter and the lateral epicondyle were digitized to provide the linear and angular positions and velocities during impact. With these observed kinematics, a slider type foot strike simulator composed of guide rail and sliding dummy is designed. The simulator system makes the artificial foot of the dummy with running shoe on it to follow the foot strike motion. The dummy has the relevant mass-spring-damper system modeled after McMahon's. The motion of the model is drived by the gravity force and the generated motion alone with the ground reaction forces are monitored by the same procedures afore mentioned producing the initial foot strike impact similar to the onto observed in human gait.
In the present study, a method for the dynamic analysis of a reactor core is developed. Peak responses for the motions induced from earthquake are obtained for a core model. The dynamic responses such as fuel assembly shear force, bending moment, axial force and displacement, and spacer grid impact loads are investigated. Prediction of fuel assembly stress during an earthquake requires development of a fuel assembly stress analysis model capable of interfacing with the models and results discussed in the dynamic analysis of a reactor core. This analysis uses beam characteristics which describe the overall fuel assembly response. The stress analysis method and its application for the case of an increased seismic level are also presented.
An analysis of the dynamics in the closing phase of the occluder of a mechanical monoleaflet heart valve prosthesis is presented. The dynamic analysis of the fluid in the vicinity of the occluder was based on the control vo]use approach. The backflow velocity of the fluid was computed by applying the continuity, Bernoulli's and momentum equations in the unsteady state. By considering the fluid pressure and gravity as external forces acting on the occluder, the moment equilibrium on fine occluder was employed to analyze the motion of the occluder during closing and the force of impact between the occluder and the guiding struts. Occluder comes to rest after several oscillations in about 10-18 msec after the Inltiaton of closing. As the aortic pressure increases, the occludes closes faster and comes to the final resting position earlier and the impact force increases also. But backflow is not af footed by the variation of the aortic pressure. With decreasing time delay of the ventricle pressure, the occluder closes faster and impact force Increases. The computed magnitudes of the occluder tiP velocities as well as the backflow of the fluid during the closing phase using this model were in agreement with previously reported experimental measurements.
Since impact phenomenon is highly nonlinear, the analysis and control of the contact motion has been a challenging subject. Various researches have been carried out mostly for the contact of a rigid robotic manipulator with a stiff and elastic environment. This paper is motivated by a new contact task: the in-circuit test of a printed circuit board. In this process, high speed contact occurs between a rigid probing manipulator and a plastically deformable work environment. A new dynamic model of the impact controlled probing task has been proposed, considering contact with the plastically deformable object. Approaching velocity conditions to avoid an excess of the allowable penetration depth and control the generated impact force properly are derived from the proposed model. The results of the simulation studies are made for various probing conditions and show the validity of the proposed model.
Piston slap is one of the sources producing engine block surface vibration and mechanical noise. To analyze piston slap-induced vibration, a realistic but simple model is proposed and verified experimentally. A piston is modeled by 3 degree of freedom system and an impact point between piston skirt and cylinder wall by 2 degree of freedom system. Numerical simulation estimates impact forces of piston in cylinder, and the engine block surface vibration response is predicted by the convoluton of the impact forces with measured impulse responses. Experimental verification on the predicted response has been also performed by using a commercial 4-cylinder diesel engine. the predicted and experimental vibration responses confirm that the suggested model is practically useful.

In this paper we derive relations which describe the geometry and kinematics of contact between the travelling wheel and stepped comb joint. From which we can obtain the impulse, impulsive force and its time interval due to travelling wheel impact which can not be taken from Carter's model or Newland and Cassidy's. The calculated transient responses of the comb joint structure to travelling wheel impact reveals that the proposed wheel contact model and Carter's give very similar results but Newland Cassidy's model make a quite different results from the others.

Taking the four-wheel bogie landing gear as an example, the force status of truck-like landing gear during the landing impact was analyzed and the simulation model of four-wheel bogie landing gear was established. Firstly, a landing gear prototyping model was established using CATIA and imported to LMS Virtual.lab. Secondly, dynamic analysis of the landing impact was simulated with the established model. Finally, with the help of LMS Virtual.lab's parametric design ability, the effects of landing approach and truck pitch angle on the landing performance, truck motion and truck beam strength were studied. These conclusions will be useful to the design and analysis of the truck.
