Variable Axis Baseplate를 이용한 Non-coplanar 토모테라피의 유용성 (Usefulness of Non-coplanar Helical Tomotherapy Using Variable Axis Baseplate)

  • 목 적: 카우치의 회전없이 갠트리 회전에 국한된 토모테라피 치료 시 환자머리의 각도를 올려 non-coplanar 빔처럼 치료하는 방법을 모색하였다. 이러한 방식의 토모테라피 치료 시 환자자세와 구강고정기구의 사용으로 인한 치료시 환자의 움직임을 분석하여 임상 치료에 이와 같은 결과를 참조하여 보다 정밀하고 정확한 치료를 하는데 도움을 주고자 한다. 대상 및 방법: 나선형 토모테라피를 이용하여 방사선 치료를 받는 뇌종양 환자 8명을 대상으로 모의치료 시 기존의 방식대로 앙와위(supine)자세에서 2명의 환자는 S-plate를 사용하여 환자의 머리를 원래대로 똑바로 하고 머리고정장치(thermoplastic mask)를 사용하였고, 3명의 환자는 S-plate에 Variable Axis Baseplate를 장착하여 머리의 각도를 올린 후 머리고정기구를 사용하였으며, 나머지 3명의 환자는 두 번째 그룹의 환자들과 동일한 방법으로 머리를 올린 후 환자가 아래로 밀려 내려가는 것을 줄이고자 하는 방안으로 구강고정기구(mouthpiece immobilization device)와 머리고정기구를 사용하였다. 토모테라피 치료 계획용 장비로 치료계획을 세운 후 치료를 시행하였다. 치료 시 초고압 전산화단층 촬영(Megavoltage computed tomography; MVCT)을 치료 후에 한번 더 시행하여 lateral (X), longitudinal (Y), and vertical (Z) 각 방향의 이동값을 확인하고 전체의 움직임을 vector값($\sqrt{x^2+y^2+z^2}$)으로 계산하여 치료 중 오차를 살펴보고 정상 뇌를 포함한 결정장기에 들어가는 선량을 비교하였다. 결 과: 세 그룹으로 나누어 X, Y, Z, vector값으로 치료 중 오차를 비교하였다. 치료 전 MVCT의 보정 값으로 이동하여 치료하고 난 후 그대로 치료 후 MVCT를 시행한 후의 보정 값(X, Y, Z)은 0에 가까워야 환자의 움직임이 적은 것으로 알 수가 있다. Variable Axis Baseplate과 S-plate를 사용하여 머리의 각도를 올린 상태로 치료한 환자를 똑바로 치료한 환자와 비교했을 때, 머리를 기울여서 치료하다 보니 X축에 비해(13% 감소) 아래로 밀려 Y (109% 증가), Z (88% 증가)축의 이동값이 상대적으로 컸다. 머리를 기울인 후, 구강고정기구를 사용한 경우는 사용하지 않은 그룹보다 X축의 이동은 평균값이 9.4% 증가하였지만, 상대적으로 움직임이 많았던 Y축은 이동의 평균값이 64% 이상, Z축은 평균값이 67% 이상, vector값은 59% 이상 감소하였다. 8명의 환자 중 전두엽과 기저핵의 왼쪽에 종양이 위치한 환자의 경우 non-coplanar 방식으로 치료할 경우, 선량의 평균값이 오른쪽 눈에는 38%, 왼쪽 눈에는 23%, 시신경교차에는 30%, 뇌간에는 27%, 정상 뇌에는 8% 감소하는 결과를 보였다. 결 론: Coplanar 방식의 IMRT 치료만 가능한 토모테라피는 이러한 단점을 보완하기 위해 종양이 결정장기 주위에 있거나 고선량으로 치료해야 하는 경우 인위적으로 머리를 기울이고 구강고정기구를 함께 사용하여 환자의 움직임을 최소화하면서 non-coplanar 방식을 적절히 사용할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

SiO2-Al2O3-P2O5 무기복합체를 이용한 LiCl-KCl 방사성 폐기물의 안정화/고형화: Part 1. LiCl-KCl의 탈염화 반응거동 및 고형화특성 (Stabilization/Solidification of Radioactive LiCl-KCl Waste Salt by Using SiO2-Al2O3-P2O5 (SAP) inorganic composite: Part 1. Dechlorination Behavior of LiCl-KCl and Characteristics of Consolidation)

  • 사용후 핵연료내 우라늄 및 초우란원소를 회수하는 파이로프로세싱 공정에서 배출되는 금속염화물계 방사성 폐기물은 높은 휘발특성과 붕규산계 유리와의 낮은 상용성으로 인해 고화처리가 쉽지 않은 폐기물이다. 이를 위해, 본 연구에서는 고화처리의 한 방법으로 탈염화 반응을 통한 고화체제조 개념을 채택하였다. 솔젤법을 이용하여 탈염화물질, $SiO_2-Al_2O_3-P_2O_5$ (SAP)을 합성하였으며 이를 이용하여 탈염화 반응거동 반응생성물의 고형화 특성을 조사하였다. LiCl계 폐기물과 달리, LiCl-KCl폐기물의 반응은 두 개의 온도범위에서 반응이 진행되며, $400^{\circ}C$의 경우에는 LiCl이, 약 $700^{\circ}C$에서는 KCl이 주로 반응하는 것으로 확인되었다. 여러 가지 반응실험을 통하여 LiCl-KCl의 탈염화 반응에 가장 적합한 물질은 SAP 1071 (Si/Al/P=1/0.75/1 in molar)인 것으로 확인되었다. 4가지 종류의 고형화 실험을 통하여 고화체의 bulk shape과 densification은 SAP/Salt의 비에 영향 받는 것을 확인하였다. 제조된 고형화 시료는 Product Consistency Test-A법을 이용하여 기본적인 내구성을 평가하였다. 본 연구는 $SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, $P_2O_5$로 이루어진 탈염화 물질을 이용하여 반응특성과 고형화 특성에 대한 기본적인 정보를 제공하였으며, 이와 같은 실험을 통하여, 본 연구에서 제안된 탈염화 고화처리방법이 휘발특성이 높고 기존 유리매질과 상용성이 낮은 금속염화물계 폐기물에 적용이 가능함을 확인하였다.

단삼보혈탕(丹蔘補血湯)이 Stress로 유발(誘發)된 백단삼보혈탕(白丹蔘補血湯)이 Stress로 유발(誘發)된 백서(白鼠) 위장관(胃腸管)의 조직손상(組織損傷)에 미치는 영향(影響) (Effects of Dansambohyultang on the Gastrointestinal Mucosa of Rats Stressed by Heating, Immobilization and Starvation)

  • Objectives : This is the experimental paper to study the curative and preventive effects of Dansambohyultang, Methods : Oriental herb medicine for gastro-intestinal disease caused by stress, on the rats put under the stress through starvation, heating and immoblization, the author used four different group; the normal group, which was not put under stress and well fed, and the control group, to which the drug was not administered and put under the stress through starvation, heating and immoblization, the Sample I, to which the drug was administered before they were put under stress, the Sample lI, to which the drug was administered after they were put under stress. Results : When a Masson's trichrome stain method was applied to the control group, a small size of ulcer was found in the fundus and the pylorus, and atrophy was observed in the neck region of mucous membrane. When the drug was administered to the Sample I and the Sample II, the former recovered from the ulcer and atrophy to almost normal and showed better results than the latter. When a Masson's trichrome stain method was applied to the control group, atrophy of mucous membrane was found all over the intestines. When the drug was administered to the Sample I and the Sample ll, the curative and recovered effects was seen in both, but the former showed better results than the latter. After application of Mayer's hematoxylin stain method, the observation of numerical changes of goblet cells in the small intestines showed the most significant decrease in the control group. In the Sample I, the number of the cells in the duodenum, the jejunum and the ileum returned to an almost normal level. In the Sample II, a slight increase was observed only in the ileum. After application of Mayer's hematoxylin stain method, the observation of numerical changes of goblet cell in the large intestines showed a significant decreased in the control group. Both the Sample I and the Sample II showed an increase in the number of goblet cells in comparison with the control group. When a serotonin-immunoreaction test was applied, the control group showed a general decrease in the number of gastro-entero-endocrine cells, The Sample I showed the effect in all over gastro.intestinal tract as compared with control group and the Sample II showed the effect in all over gastro-intestinal tract except the duodenum and the former showed better results than the latter. Conclusion : According to the above results, the regions which are most sensitive to stress were observed to the ileum and the colon. It was concluded that Dansambohyultang has a remedical value particularly on the abnormalities caused by stress in all over gastro-intestinal tract and it was found to be more effective in the Sample I than in the Sample ll. Judging from the fact that the Sample I showed better results than the Sample ll, Dansambohyultang can be said to have a preventive effect more than a curative effect on gastro-intestinal tract disease.

Microbial Removal Using Layered Double Hydroxides and Iron (Hydr)oxides Immobilized on Granular Media

  • The objective of this study was to investigate microbial removal using layered double hydroxides (LDHs) and iron (hydr)oxides (IHs) immobilized onto granular media. Column experiments were performed using calcium alginate beads (CA beads), LDHs entrapped in CA beads (LDH beads), quartz sand (QS), iron hydroxide-coated sand (IHCS) and hematite-coated sand (HCS). Microbial breakthrough curves were obtained by monitoring the effluent, with the percentage of microbial removal and collector efficiency then quantified from these curves. The results showed that the LDH beads were ineffective for the removal of the negatively-charged microbes (27.7% at 1 mM solution), even though the positively-charged LDHs were contained on the beads. The above could be related to the immobilization method, where LDH powders were immobilized inside CA beads with nano-sized pores (about 10 nm); therefore, micro-sized microbes (E. coli = 1.21 ${\mu}m$) could not diffuse through the pores to come into contact with the LDHs in the beads, but adhere only to the exterior surface of the beads via polymeric interaction. IHCS was the most effective in the microbial removal (86.0% at 1 mM solution), which could be attributed to the iron hydroxide coated onto the exterior surface of QS had a positive surface charge and, therefore, effectively attracted the negatively-charged microbes via electrostatic interactions. Meanwhile, HCS was far less effective (35.6% at 1 mM solution) than IHCS because the hematite coated onto the external surface of QS is a crystallized iron oxide with a negative surface charge. This study has helped to improve our knowledge on the potential application of functional granular media for microbial removal.

후방연장 국소의치에서 지대치의 splinting에 따른 치주조직의 응력 변화에 관한 유한요소법적 연구 (FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF STRESS PATTERNS ON PERIODONTIUM OF SPLINTED ABUTMENTSFOR DISTAL EXTENSION REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURE)

  • Splint therapy, the immobilization of teeth, has been done for patient's masticatory comforts and an adjunctive aid in periodontal therapy. Mandibular premolars are frequently splinted in many distal extension removable partial denture cases. But splinting is an extensive restoration that may not be conservative of tooth structure and may prove to be quite costly to the patient. The two dimensional finite element analysis method was used to determine the magnitude and mode of distribution of the stresses of the periodontal ligament and supporting alveolar bone when abutments with different periodontal supports were splinted and distal-extension removable partial denture was subjected to different loading schemes. The results were as follows : 1. When abutments were splinted, stresses moved from apico-distal to apico-mesial of terminal abutment on a vertical force and from disto-alveolar crest to apex on a distally directed force. But stresses were generally diminished on a mesially directed force. 2. As vertical bone loss was proceeding, most of stresses were transmitted to residual ridge and the rest of stresses were concentrated on apex of distal abutment. But these apical stresses were minimized when abutments were splinted. 3. As mesially inclined bone loss was proceeding, it seemed to be dangerous that many stresses were concentrated on the distal alveolar crest, especially in the distally directed load case. Abutments splinting decreased the alveolar crestal stresses but not enough. 4. For all vertical stresses were effectively decreased on splinting, stresses were concentrated as highly on apico-mesial area of distal abutment in distally directed load cases as the distal inclination of bone level was severe. 5. The directions and magnitudes of abutment movements were decreased with teeth splinting.

사문암지대의 중금속 함유 낙엽의 분해에 관한 연구 I. Microcosm 실험 (Studies on the Decomposition of Leaf Litter Containing Heavy Metals in Andong Serpentine Area, Korea I. Microcosm Experiment)

  • This study attempted to compare the litter decomposition rate of Arundinella hirta and Miscanthus sinensis var. purpurascens which collected from serpentine soil acting potentially toxic concentration of heavy metals and non-serpentine soil by using the microcosm method for 192 days under constant humidity and $23^{\circ}C$. The contents of Ni, Fe, Mg and Cr in the serpentine and nonserpentine soil originated litter showed high differences between them. The litter samples from serpentine site have lower C/N than non-serpentine litter, but the soluble carbohydrate content was shown almost similar between two plant litter. The mass loss rates of leaf litter from serpentine area were slower than those from non-serpentine site. During the experimental period, the remained dry weight of A. hirta and M. sinensis var. purpurascens litter collected from serpentine site were 64.7%, 65.0% of initial dry weight and litter samples from non-serpentine site showed 54.2%, 50.7%, respectively. K and Na were leached rapidly at the initial decomposition periods, but Ca showed immobilization and other metal elements reserved at the decomposing litter for a long time. The decomposing A. hirta litter from non-serpentine soil showed higher values of $CO_2$ evolution, microbial biomass-C, and microbial biomass-N than those in serpentine soil originated litter acting nutrient stresses and exhibited rapid decay rate. The microbial biomass and microbial respiration of decaying litter were positively correlated with litter decomposition rate, and these relationships showed more rapid slope in non-serpentine soil originated litter than that in serpentine soil.

페니실린 농도 검출을 위한 광지시형 전위차 센서의 제작 및 감응특성 (Fabrication and Response Characteristics of the Light Addressable Potentiometric Sensor for Detecting the Penicillin Concentration)

  • In this study, we developed the measuring system based on light addressable potentiometric sensor for the quantitative analysis of penicillin that is very important element in medicine and pharmacy, clinic. It is investigated the response characteristics by enzyme reaction with penicillinase. First, the surface pre-treatment process of the $Si_{3}N_{4}$ was established. The coupling agent was made using self assembled monolayer method and it was confirmed the immobilization process by AFM. Also, as the measuring system, potentiostat, signal processing part etc. was made by Lab VIEW software, it was reduced detecting time as well as simplifying the system. Fabricated device was shown excellent pH response characteristics, 57 mV/ pH in the range of pH $2{\sim}11$. The response characteristics was 60 mV/decade in the range of $0.1{\sim}10{\;}mM$.

목재방부제(CCA) 오염토양의 소성가공 굴껍질을 이용한 비소 안정화 (Stabilization of As in Soil Contaminated with Chromated Copper Arsenate (CCA) Using Calcinated Oyster Shells)

  • Arsenic (As) is known to be very toxic and carcinogenic to human beings. Arsenic contaminated soil was collected from a timber mill site at Busan Metropolitan City, Korea, where chromated copper arsenate (CCA) had been used to protect wood from rotting caused by insects and microbial agents. The soil was stabilized using both natural oyster shells (NOS) and calcinated oyster shells (POS). The calcination of natural oyster shells was accomplished at a high temperature in order to activate quicklime from calcite. Two different oyster shell particle sizes (-#10 mesh and -#20 mesh) and curing periods of up to 28 days were investigated. The stabilization effectiveness was evaluated based on the Korean Standard Test (KST) method (1N HCl extraction). The stabilization results showed that the POS treatment was more effective than the NOS treatment at immobilizing the As in the contaminated soils. A significant As reduction (96%) was attained upon a POS treatment at 20 wt% and passed the Korean warning standard of 20 mg/kg ('Na' area). However, an As reduction of only 47% (169 mg/kg) was achieved upon a NOS treatment at 20 wt%. The -#20 mesh oyster shells seem to perform better than the -#10 materials. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM)-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) results showed that As immobilization was strongly associated with Ca and O in the presence of Al and Si.

중금속 오염 농경지 토양의 토양질 평가에 관한 연구 (Determining Soil Quality of Heavy Metal Contaminated Agricultural Field in Korea)

  • Heavy metal pollution in agricultural field has been a critical issue in worldwide. For this reason, remediation technologies for heavy metal polluted soil are applied especially near at the abandoned metal mine. Soil quality analysis is also an important factor for proper management in heavy metal polluted agricultural field. In this study, scoring function was utilized to evaluate soil quality in heavy metal polluted agricultural field. Among other soil properties, bulk density, soil pH, EC, $NH_4$-N, $NO_3$-N, and cation exchange capacity (CEC) were determined for minimum data set (MDS) with principal component analysis. Result showed that both upland and paddy soil contaminated with heavy metal were not suitable for crop growth except scoring of soil pH for paddy soil and CEC for upland soil. This result might indicate that chemical stabilization technology with chemical amendment could be adapted for remediation method for heavy metal polluted agiclutural field not only for heavy metal immobilization but also enhancement of soil condition for crop growth.

Various Types and Manufacturing Techniques of Nano and Micro Capsules for Nanofood

  • Nano and micro capsulation (NM capsulation) involve the incorporation for nanofood materials, enzymes, cells or other materials in small capsules. Since Kim D. M. (2001) showed that a new type of food called firstly the name of nanofood, which means nanotechnology for food, and the encapsulated materials can be protected from moisture, heat or other extreme conditions, thus enhancing their stability and maintaining viability applications for this nanofood technique have increased in the food. NM capsules for nanofood is also utilized to mask odours or tastes. Various techniques are employed to form the capsules, including spray drying, spray chilling or spray cooling, extrusion coating, fluidized bed coating, liposome entrapment, coacervation, inclusion complexation, centrifugal extrusion and rotational suspension separation. Each of these techniques is discussed in this review. A wide variety of nanofood is NM capsulated - flavouring agents, acids, bases, artificial sweeteners, colourants, preservatives, leavening agents, antioxidants, agents with undesirable flavours, odours and nutrients, among others. The use of NM capsulation for sweeteners such as aspartame and flavors in chewing gum is well known. Fats, starches, dextrins, alginates, protein and lipid materials can be employed as encapsulating materials. Various methods exist to release the ingredients from the capsules. Release can be site-specific, stage-specific or signaled by changes in pH, temperature, irradiation or osmotic shock. NM capsulation for the nanofood, the most common method is by solvent-activated release. The addition of water to dry beverages or cake mixes is an example. Liposomes have been applied in cheese-making, and its use in the preparation of nanofood emulsions such as spreads, margarine and mayonnaise is a developing area. Most recent developments include the NM capsulation for nanofood in the areas of controlled release, carrier materials, preparation methods and sweetener immobilization. New markets are being developed and current research is underway to reduce the high production costs and lack of food-grade materials.
