The moving picture experts group (MPEG) developed the MPEG immersive video (MIV) standard for efficient compression of multiple immersive videos representing natural contents and computer graphics. The MIV compresses multiple immersive videos and generates multiple output videos which are defined as atlases. However, there is a synchronization issue of multiple decoders in a legacy device when decoding multiple encoded atlases. This paper proposes and implements the geometry packing method for adaptive control of decoder instances for low-end and high-end devices. The proposed method on the recent version of the MIV reference software worked correctly.

This study was initiated by focusing on the characteristics of 3D virtual clothing utilized by fashion brands aiming for sustainability. The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of fashion brands that utilize 3D virtual imagery to mitigate environmental pollution caused by the fashion industry from the perspective of green design. The research methodology draws on green design literature and analyzes three hypothetical cases. These include experiential immersive design, design that rewards engagement, and design that delivers economic benefits that were utilized by fashion brands from 2019 to 2023. The findings and conclusions are as follow. First, the for the commercialization of virtual clothing, offline stores are reproduced in the digital world to provide an immersive shopping experience, similar to reality. These promote fashion products in a virtual space without the constraints of space and time, and creates profits and sustainable value. Second, virtual clothing promotes playfulness. Games and events utilize branded virtual worlds and characters to attract users. Rewards are given for achieving goals, and it is a practice of green marketing that uses virtual items to express products and minimize resource waste. Third, virtual clothing is affordable and can reduce the financial burden on consumers by digitally reproducing expensive products as physical brand collections at an acceptable price point. This reduces environmental pollution, saves physical resources, and increases the utilization of virtual clothing by providing a convenient way to purchase. This study is a basic study that examines the current status and characteristics of fashion brands' use of 3D virtual imagery from the perspective of green design based on literature and case analysis, and follow-up studies are expected on empirical virtual imagery activation measures through interviews or surveys with users for each case.
Virtual reality is actively used in the medical field as a learning effectiveness that induces immersion, but research on the factors that induce learning immersion is insufficient. Therefore, this study extracted the usability and cognitive affordance evaluation elements of the interface through literature research and selected four types of virtual reality medical contents to conduct a Useability-Test for experts. Based on this, an interface design method according to virtual reality medical technology content was proposed. In summary, it can be seen that the information-providing interface affects immersion due to visibility, distance from the experience's gaze, color harmony, uniform visualization, feedback, reaction speed, and expected changes resulting from manipulation, and does not impair immersion. This study has limitations in generalization using limited content, so it is expected that continuous research will discuss the development of standardized guides in interface design and the precision of interface design research from a user perspective.
Game engines have the advantage of enabling efficient content production, such as reducing development time, with minimal visual quality guarantees and support for multi-platforms. Recently, game engines have provided various functions that can easily, quickly, and effectively produce immersive content using virtual reality (VR) HMD. Therefore, this study conducts a comparative study on the development environment in VR content production using Oculus Quest 2 HMD, focusing on Unity and Unreal game engines, which are widely used in the content production industry, including games. First, we compare the basic setup process of building a development environment using Oculus Quest 2 HMD and a dedicated controller based on a VR template project that includes the minimum functions and settings provided by each engine. Next, we present a simple experience environment that can interact in a virtual environment and compare the development environment to use a dedicated controller and the process of building a development environment that directly utilizes hands through the hand tracking function provided by Oculus Quest 2. Through this process, we will understand the basic process of building a VR development environment, and at the same time, we will check the characteristics and differences of the engine and use it as a research that can be applied to various immersive content production.

In recent years, realistic contents technology such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality has been spreading in travel and tourism industries, and hence there have been various smart tourism AR, VR contents developed. In the past, people mainly used books and Internet for travel, but the use of VR, AR and MR technologies will be used more for consumption of cultural leisure contents in the future. This study describes the Mixed Reality based Baekje Neungsa Cultural Heritage On-Site Guide System to accelerate smart tourism. In this study, the immersive mixed reality HMD was used to provide visitors with more intuitive and effective information about the historical, cultural and architectural values of Baekje Neungsa through virtual experiences. The cultural heritage on-site guide system module supports various Meta Data services and can be easily used for mixed reality content development by designating Meta Data scripts. This research can make contributions to the development of mixed reality based smart tourism contents.

Digital media technology is gradually developing with the development of convergence quaternary industrial technology and mobile devices. The combination of deep learning and augmented reality can provide more convenient and lively services through the interaction of 3D virtual images with the real world. We combine deep learning-based pose prediction with augmented reality technology. We predict the eight vertices of the bounding box of the object in the image. Using the predicted eight vertices(x,y), eight vertices(x,y,z) of 3D mesh, and the intrinsic parameter of the smartphone camera, we compute the external parameters of the camera through the PnP algorithm. We calculate the distance to the object and the degree of rotation of the object using the external parameter and apply to AR content. Our method provides services in a web environment, making it highly accessible to users and easy to maintain the system. As we provide augmented reality services using consumers' smartphone cameras, we can apply them to various business fields.
This study investigates the effectiveness of virtual reality agents as foreign language instructors with focus on the impact of different native language backgrounds and instructional roles. The agents were first distinguished as native or non-native speakers treated as a between-subject factor, and then assigned roles as either teachers or salespersons considered within-subject factors. An immersive virtual environment was developed for this experiment, and a 2×2 mixed factorial design was carried out. In an experimental group of 72 university students, statistically significant interactions were found in learning satisfaction, memory, and recall between the native/non-native status of the agents and their roles. With regard to learning confidence and presence, however, no statistically significant differences were observed in both interaction effects and main effects. Contextual learning in a virtual environment was found to enhance learning effectiveness and satisfaction, with the nativeness and the role of agents influencing learners' memory; thus highlighting the effectiveness of using virtual reality agents in foreign language learning. This suggests that varied approaches can have positive cognitive and emotional impacts on learners, thereby providing valuable theoretical and empirical implications.
