  • This paper proposes a new detection method of human faces in grey scale images with cluttered background using a facial template and elliptical structure of the human head. Face detection technique can be applied in many areas of image processing such as face recognition, composition and computer graphics, etc. Until now, many researches about face detection have been done, and applications in more complicated conditions are increasing. The existing technique proposed by Sirohey shows relatively good performance in image with cluttered background, but can apply only to image with one face and needs much computation time. The proposed method is designed to reduce complexity and be applied even in the image with several faces by introducing template matching as preprocess. The results show that the proposed method produces more correct detection rate and needs less computation time than the existing one.

  • Thermal infrared imaging is a highly promising technology for condition monitoring and predictive maintenance of electronic, electrical and mechanical elements in nuclear power plants. However, conventional low-cost infrared imaging systems suffer from poor spatial resolution compared to commercial CCD cameras. This paper describes an approach to enhance inspection performances for calandria reactor area of Wolsung nuclear power plant through the technique of superimposing thermal infrared image into real CCD image. In the occurrence of thermal abnormalities on observation points and areas of calandria reactor area, unusual hot image taken from thermal infrared camera is mapped upon real CCD image. The performance of the technique has been evaluated in the experiment carried out at Wolsung nuclear power plant in the overhaul period. The results show that localizations of thermal abnormalities on calandria reactor face can be estimated accurately.

  • The usual technique of correction and positioning of film image of RS require enough control points to provide the geographic coordinate. Some distortion and error caused by earth curvature and terrain and photograph tilt can't be eliminated by these ways. In this paper a set of technique of systemic correction and positioning of remote sensing image base on orbit parameter is described, some questions in its realization and their solvent also included.

  • Recently, the spatial resolution of earth observation satellites is significantly increased to a few meters. Such high spatial resolution images definitely will provide lots of information for detail-thirsty remote sensing users. However, it is more difficult to develop automated image algorithms for automated image feature extraction and pattern recognition. In this study, we propose a two-stage procedure to extract road information from high resolution satellite images. At first stage, a watershed segmentation technique is developed to classify the image into various regions. Then, a knowledge is built for road and used to extract the road regions. In this study, we use panchromatic and multi-spectral images of the IKONOS satellite as test dataset. The experiment result shows that the proposed technique can generate suitable and meaningful road objects from high spatial resolution satellite images. Apparently, misclassified regions such as parking lots are recognized as road needed further refinement in future research.

  • The shoreline changes were observed and analysed using the video image by a remote unmanned automatic camera monitoring system installed at Haeundae beach of Busan City. In order to analyse quantitatively the shoreline changes caused by waves and tides, the image averaging technique and the rectification technique for obliquely acquired image were applied to the video image during the typhoon Bart in September, 1999. The results showed that the camera monitoring system can be used as a very cost effective and efficient tool for monitoring shorelines which change continuously due to waves and tides.

  • In this paper, we propose an automatic detection scheme of work distraction for remote management of telecommuting. The proposed scheme periodically captures two consequent computer screens and generates the difference image of these two captured images. The scheme applies the difference image to our deep learning model and makes a decision of abnormal patterns in the difference image. Our deep learning model is designed with the transfer learning technique of VGG16 deep learning. When the scheme detects an abnormal pattern in the difference image, it hides all texts in the difference images to protect disclosure of privacy-related information. Evaluation shows that the proposed scheme provides about 96% detection accuracy.

  • In this paper, It propose methods compressing BTC image utilizing data hiding technique. BTC is used to compress general digital image into binary image and applied into application such as printer. Additional information, transferred with binary image, is as big as the size of binary image. Therefore, we wish to reduce the total transmission bandwidth by decreasing the additional information with sustaining the small image degradation. Because typical BTC image doesn't have enough space for data hiding, we adopt Adaptive AMBTC (Absolute Moment BTC) algorithm to produce the binary image, and calculate virtual histogram from created binary image and modify this histogram for reducing the additional information. The proposed algorithm can reduce about 6-11 % of the image file size, compared with the existing BTC algorithm, without making perceptible image degradation.

  • In this study, we want to composite the source image and the target image when the environment includes water surface in the target image such as lake, sea, etc. The water surface is different from other common environment. On the water surface, the object must be reflected or refract and sometimes is deformed by the wave of water. In order to composite the object in the source image onto the water image, we analyze the water surface of the target image and let the object be synthesized realistically based on the wave of water. Our composite process consists of three steps. First. we use Shape-from-Shading technique to extract the normal vector of the water surface in the target image. Next, the source image is deformed according to the normal vector map. Finally, we composite the deformed object onto the target image.

  • In this paper, we proposed a lossless compression algorithm of medical images which is essential technique in picture archive and communication system. Mammographic image and magnetic resonance image in among medical images used in this study, proposed a region growing segmentation algorithm for compression of these images. A proposed algorithm was partition by three sub region which error image, discontinuity index map, high order bit data from original image. And generated discontinuity index image data and error image which apply to a region growing algorithm are compressed using JBIG(Joint Bi-level Image experts Group) algorithm that is international hi-level image compression standard and proper image compression technique of gray code digital Images. The proposed lossless compression method resulted in, on the average, lossless compression to about 73.14% with a database of high-resolution digital mammography images. In comparison with direct coding by JBIG, JPEG, and Lempel-Ziv coding methods, the proposed method performed better by 3.7%, 7.9% and 23.6% on the database used.

  • This paper presents an image processing algorithm which gives an sketch effect on the real image taken by CCD camera. The essence of the technique is the expression of shading by the line touch. Several line patterns are developed to emulate pencil drawings, fusains, Indian ink paintings. This algorithm is expected to be used for computer portraits, character development, and souvenirs.
