  • In this paper, a generalized version of the Motion Silhouette Image(MSI) called the Generic Motion Silhouette Image (GMSI) is proposed for gait recognition. The GMSI is a gray-level image and involves the spatiotemporal information of individual motion. The GMSI not only generalizes the MSI but also reflects a flexible feature of a gait sequence. Along with the GMSI, we use the Principal Component Analysis(PCA) to reduce the dimensionality of the GMSI and the Nearest Neighbor(NN) for classification. We apply the proposed feature to NLPR database and compare it with the conventional MSI. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the GMSI.

  • This study examines the implications of fashion in self-expression or image management among college students in Korea. Socio-demographic factors are considered in addressing following research questions: why Korean college students seek luxury goods; how they recognize the effects of using luxury goods on their image management; whether or not they have purchased counterfeit luxury goods; and why they buy counterfeit goods. In order to explain the relationship between fashion and social class, the study examines various sociological theories including Erving Goffman's dramaturgical approach. The data were drawn from 1419 students from 10 universities nationwide in 2005. Chi-square analyses yields outcomes as follows: Using luxury goods works as a class symbol that gives the users the image of higher socio-economic background; use of counterfeit luxury goods and its symbolic effects in image management do not have significant relationship with socio-economic background.

  • In this paper, we propose on image encryption method which uses NC(Non-linear Cycle) and 2D CAT(Two-Dimensional Cellular Automata Transform) in sequence to encrypt medical images. In terms of the methodology, we use NC to generate a pseudo noise sequence equal to the size of the original image. We then conduct an XOR operation of the generated sequence with the original image to conduct level 1 NC encryption. Then we set the proper Gateway Values to generate the 2D CAT basis functions. We multiply the generated basis functions by the altered NC encryption image to conduct the 2nd level 2D CAT encryption. Finally, we verify that the proposed method is efficient and extremely safe by conducting an analysis of the key spatial and sensitivity analysis of pixels.

  • In landscape simulatin, it is necessary to express very realistic image generated by computer graphics. One solution is to use texture mapping; however, it needs a lot of work and time to obtain images for texture mapping since there are huge variety of images for buildings, roads, stations and so on, and the landscape image is diverse due to the weather and time. Especially, weathered images such as stain on walls, crack on roads and so forth, are needed to make the landscape image very realistic. These weathered images do not have to be strict so that it saves a lot of work and time for obtaining the images for texture mapping if we can generate a variety of weathered images automatically. Therefore, this paper describes how to generate a variety of weathered images automatically by changing the weathered shape of the original image.

  • The temporal dark- and bright-image sticking phenomena were examined relative to the He contents under 11% Xe content in the 50-in HD and FHD AC-PDPs with a ternary gas mixture (Xe-He-Ne). To compare the temporal dark- and bright-image sticking phenomena under various He contents, the differences in the disappearing time, display luminance, perceived luminance, infrared emission, color coordinate, color temperature, and discharge current before and after discharge were measured under 0, 35, 50, and 70% He contents. It was found that temporal dark- and bright-image sticking were reduced in proportion to the increase in He %. Thus, a high He content contributes to the reduction of temporal dark- and bright-image sticking.

  • We describe an approach that uses a bilateral filter to reduce the ringing artifact in motion-blurred restoration image. It takes into account the specific physical structure of the ringing artifact combined with the properties of the human visual system. To properly reduce the ringing artifact, each of the adjacent pixels is limited in a straight line which has a given direction. To protect the edges and the texture regions of an image, our algorithm divides the image into texture regions and flat regions, and the artifact reduction algorithm is only applied to the flat region. Finally, we use 8 typical images and 5 objective quality evaluation indices to evaluate our algorithm. Experimental results show that our algorithm can obtain better results in subjective visual effect and in objective image quality evaluation.

  • Therefore the use of Hadamard transform in the image processing requires only the real number operations and results in the computational advantages. Recently, however, certain degradation aspects have been reported. In this paper we propose a WH matrixtwhich retains the main properties of Hadamard matrix. The actual improvement of the image transmission in the inner part of the picture has been demonstrated by the computer simulated image developments. The orthogonal transforms such as Hadamard transform offers a useful facility in the digital signal processing. As the size of the transmission block increases, however, the assignment of bits for each data must increase exponentially. Thus the SNR of the image tends to decline accordingly. As an attempt to increase the SNR, we propose the WH matrix whose elements are made of ${\pm}$1, ${\pm}$2, ${\pm}$3, ${\pm}$4, and the unitform is 8${\times}$8 matrix.

  • In this paper, we present a content-based image retrieval method that is less sensitive to some rotations and translations of an image by using the fuzzy region segmentation. The algorithm retrieves similar images from a database using the two features of color and color spatial information. To index images, we use the average coordinates of color distribution to obtain the spatial information of each segmented region. Furthermore, we also propose the alternative to the ripple phenomenon, which is occurred in the conventional fuzzy region segmentation algorithm.

  • An image retrieval system is a piece of software that searches identical or similar images based on various image-specific features. This paper proposes a trademark image retrieval system that uses image colors and forms. In the proposed system, input images are segmented into several other regions, and color distribution histograms for different regions are extracted for use as color information. The proposed system uses form information through the preprocessing process such as boundary surface extraction, centroid extraction, angular sampling and, and through calculating the sums of the distances between the centroid and the boundary surfaces, standard deviations, and the ratios between long and short axes. Like this, the color and form information extracted is used to perform retrieval through measuring similarity.

  • As multimedia information increases sharply, In image retrieval field the method that can analyze image data quickly and exactly is required. In the case of image data, because each data includes a lot of informations, between accuracy and speed of retrieval become trade-off. To solve these problem, feature vector extracting process that use Genetic Algorithm for implementing prompt and correct image clustering system in case of retrieval of mass image data is proposed. After extracting color and texture features, the representative feature vector among these features is extracted by using Genetic Algorithm.
