An Experimental Investigation about the Perception of a Sound Source with Moving Its Width

  • In this paper dynamic characteristics were investigated of the perception of a bound image width. Subjective evaluation tests were carried out of the width of a sound image when its presentation region was moved in the horizontal plane. As a result, the sound image width was perceived narrower or wider than the actual presentation region when the sound source width was decreased or increased, respectively. The result obtained shows that a phenomenon which is a kind of auditory motion aftereffects was occurred in the perception of a sound source with changing its width.

  • This paper describes effects of visual information influencing sound localization in the peripheral visual Held under dynamic conditions. Presentation experiments of an audio-visual stimulus were carried out using a movie of a moving patrol car and its siren sound. The tallowing results were obtained: first, the sound image on the timing at the beginning of the presentation was more strongly captured by the visual image than that at the end, i.e., the "beginning effect" was occurred; second, in the peripheral regions, the "beginning effect" was strongly appeared in near the fixation point of eyes.

Standard Operating Procedure of Tongue-image Analysis System to Improve the Reliability (설진기 시스템의 혀 영상 획득과정에 대한 표준운영절차 제안)

  • Objectives This study was conducted to suggest a standard operating procedure (SOP) in order to improve the reliability of tongue-image analysis system. Methods An affecting-factors list was made, which may affect the diagnostic parameters of the tongue-image analysis system. They were sub-classified into two groups: controllable and uncontrollable. Only the controllable factors, which could affect the results and easily set-up, were included into the SOP draft. Affecting factors control experiment was performed to investigate the effects of controllable factors, whose influence on diagnostic parameters of the tongue-image analysis system is ambiguous: rehearsal for tongue extrusion; alignment of camera axis; and presentation of a guideline. Three subjects volunteered for this experiment. Each of three variables was implemented twice in a random order by two operators on the subjects. Finally, 96 tongue images obtained in the aggregate. The diagnostic parameter set as a primary outcome in this experiment was the percentage of tongue coating. Results All of the control variables were not significant in both operators; however, the presentation of a guideline was relatively more affect than two other variables. Interaction effects among the variables were also insignificant. Therefore, the presentation of a guideline was included in the final SOP and the other variables were not included. Conclusions We suggested the SOP which could be used for both experimenter and subject. Moreover, Each of the SOPs applied to various types of tongue-image analysis system should be developed in order to improve the reliability.

Effects of Presentation Modalities of Television Moving Image and Print Text on Children's and Adult's Recall (TV동영상과 신문텍스트의 정보제시특성이 어린이와 성인의 정보기억에 미치는 영향)

  • Major purpose of this study is to explore effect of presentation modalities of Television and print on children's and adult's recall. So An experiment was conducted by comparing children's and adults' recall of information stories presented in three different modalities: "television moving Image1(auditory-visual redundancy)", "television moving Image2(auditory-visual redundancy)" and "print text". Results indicated that children remembered more infornation from the television moving Image than from print versions regardless of auditory-visual redundancy. But for the adults advantage of television was only found for information that had been accompanied by redundant pictures in television moving Image, providing support for the dual-coding hypothesis.

  • Instagram, a photo and image centered social networking service, has received increasing attention these days, from scholars and practitioners. However, little is known about the social and psychological factors that lead consumers to use this service. To provide a baseline understanding on Instagram users, the current study was conducted to discover perfectionistic self-presentation tendency expressed by the Instagram users and explore the relationships between identified perfectionistic self-presentation and intention to use Instagram variables with 250 participants. In addition, this study tried to determine the moderator effect of self-efficacy and self-construal. A comprehensive survey was directed and a total of 380 participants were recruited to verify anticipated hypotheses and research questions. The research results suggest that perfectionistic self-presentation has five sub factors: others conscious self-presentation, subjective self-presentation, environmental adaptation self-presentation, self-expansion self-presentation, and social self-presentation. The implications of this research findings are discussed.

The Preferred Fashion Style and Self-image that Korean Career Women's Seek According to Daily Situations (한국 직장여성의 일상 상황별 추구하는 자기이미지와 선호 패션스타일)

  • The objectives of this study are to identify the self-image and preferred fashion styles that Korean career women seek in different daily situations, and to propose a positioning map in accords with the findings. The study conducted a survey and in-depth interviews. The study used twenty items of self-image adjectives extracted from existing studies, and eighteen fashion style stimuli collected by examining women's wear brands. The study surveyed 329 career women. Their daily situation was classified into five situations; external meeting and presentation, ordinary work, wedding and family gathering, blind date or date, and meeting with friends and acquaintances. The analysis results of this study showed that self-image and fashion style preferences are relevant to daily situation. The image most sought in external meetings and presentation was the 'Elegant' image, and the image most sought in meetings with friends and acquaintances was the 'active' image. Women on dates or blind dates sought the 'feminine' image the most, however they preferred to avoid this image during external meetings and presentations. Among fashion styles, the 'elegant/classic' style was most preferred, and the 'sexy/avant-garde' style had the lowest preference among all the styles. 'Mannish' was preferred in ordinary work and meeting with friends and acquaintances, however, it was shown as having the lowest preference level in blind dates or dates. The 'romantic/natural' style was highly preferred in meeting with friends and acquaintances, however it had a low level of preference for external meetings and presentations. This study has significance in providing practical information to utilize in fashion industry by identifying the relationship between self-image and preferred fashion style sought by career women according to daily situation, and using the results to propose a positioning map.

The development of CAI systems for an efficient education of image processing (효율적인 영상처리 교육을 위한 통합 환경 개발에 관한 연구)

  • With the wide-spread use of multimedia technology, the demand for the image processing engineer is increasing in various fields. But there are few engineers who can develop practical applications in the image processing area. To teach practical image processing techniques, we need an integrated education environment which can efficiently present the image processing theory and, at the same time, provide interactive experiments for the theory presented. In this paper, we propose an integrated education environment for the image processing, which is called MTES. It consists of the theory presentation systems and the experiment systems. The theory presentation systems support multimedia data, web document and Microsoft Powerpoint$^{TM}$ file. It is tightly integrated with the experiment systems which are developed based on the integrated image processing algorithm development system, called Hello-Vision.n.

Visual Programming Environment for Effective Teaching and Research in Image Processing (영상처리에서 효율적인 교육과 연구를 위한 비주얼 프로그래밍 환경 개발)

  • With the wide spread use of multimedia device, the demand for the image processing engineers are increasing in various fields. However there are few engineers who can develop practical applications in the image processing area. To teach practical image processing techniques, we need a visual programming environment which can efficiently present the image processing theories and, at the same time, provide interactive experiments for the theory presented. In this paper, we propose a visual programming environment of the integrated environment for image processing. It consists of the theory presentation systems and experiment systems based on the visual programming environment. The theory presentation systems support multimedia data, web documents and powerpoint files. The proposed system provides an integrated environment for application development as well as education. The proposed system accumulates the teaching materials and exercise data and it manages, an ideal image processing education and research environment to students and instructors.

  • 시각제시에 의한 감성반응 생체신호 추출 실험시 시각 제시물 선정에 주관적 방식을 사용하였다. 시각제시 영상물로는 감성반응도가 가장 큰 인물얼굴 영상자료를 선정하였다. 피검자군 스스로 자신이 극도로 선호하고 혐오하는 양극단의 얼굴영상물을 선호도 특성조사를 통해 선택케 하였다. 외부와의 영상잡음이 차폐된 모니터 제시 장치를 구성하여 선호와 혐오의 양극단 영상물을 교차 제시하며 설문조사와 뇌파를 측정하였다. 피검자로는 남녀 대학생 20명을 선발하였으며 영상매체 선정을 비롯한 뇌파측정에 과정에 참여시켰다. 뇌파신호 분석 방법으로는 대역별 적분값, 반응구간 변화 미분값을 파라미터로 사용하였다. 분석결과, 교차제시에 따른 반응민감도가 향상되었으며 동일 시각 반복제시에 따라 민감도가 둔화됨을 밝혔다.

  • Modern consumers tend to show value-oriented, image-centered, individualized, and emotionalized consumption behavior, not the consumers who are simply provided with products. Department store industry actively corresponds to the changing consumption behaviors of consumers and pays attention to Visual Merchandising(VMD) as a strategy to visually differentiate stores and sales environments. This study shows 6 parts of effective VMD; presentation of product, product display, color composition, planning of lighting, POP and sign display.
