Design of Smart Frame SoC to support the IoT Services (IoT 서비스를 지원하는 Smart Frame SoC 설계)

  • In accordance with IoT(Internet of Things) commercialization, the need to design SoC-based hardware platform with wireless communication is increasing. This paper therefor proposes an SoC platform architecture with Smart Frame System inter-communicating between devices. Wireless communication functions and high-performance real-time image processing hardware structure was applied to existing digital photo frame. We developed a smart phone application to control the smart frame through Bluetooth communication. The SoC platform hardware consists of CIS controller, Memory controller, ISP(Image Signal Processing) module for image scaling, Bluetooth Interface for inter-communicating between devices, VGA/TFT-LCD controller for displaying video. The Smart Frame System to support the IoT services was implemented and verified using HBE-SoC-IPD test board equipped with Virtex4 XC4VLX80 FPGA. The operating frequency is 54MHz.

FPGA Design of SVM Classifier for Real Time Image Processing (실시간 영상처리를 위한 SVM 분류기의 FPGA 구현)

  • SVM is a machine learning method used for image processing. It is well known for its high classification performance. We have to perform multiple MAC operations in order to use SVM for image classification. However, if the resolution of the target image or the number of classification cases increases, the execution time of SVM also increases, which makes it difficult to be performed in real-time applications. In this paper, we propose an hardware architecture which enables real-time applications using SVM classification. We used parallel architecture to simultaneously calculate MAC operations, and also designed the system for several feature extractors for compatibility. RBF kernel was used for hardware implemenation, and the exponent calculation formular included in the kernel was modified to enable fixed point modelling. Experimental results for the system, when implemented in Xilinx ZC-706 evaluation board, show that it can process 60.46 fps for $1360{\times}800$ resolution at 100MHz clock frequency.

  • As unmanned aerial vehicle(UVA), drone means a flying object that could aviate the route entered by a program in advance or remotely-controlled when a pilot is not on board. Drone that has been initially developed for the military purpose is currently used for diverse areas such as agricultural industry, leisure activity, logistics service, and life-saving area. Out of these areas, the shooting drone equipped with a camera is actively used for diverse image contents production areas including film and broadcasting area. This paper examines the characteristics of drone for the purpose of shooting, and also handles the shooting techniques using drone. Especially, this study aims to suggest and discuss the methods to shoot diverse camera working used by the existing image shooting with the use of drone after examining the operation of shooting drone used for the image contents production area.

  • The use of line memory is essential for image filtering in image processing hardware. After input data is stored in line memory, filtering is performed after synchronization to use the stored data. A sync generator is used for synchronization, and in the case of a conventional sync generator, the input sync signal is delayed by one row of the input image. If a signal delayed by two rows is required, it is necessary to connect two modules. This approach increases the size of the hardware and cannot be designed efficiently. In this paper, we propose a sync generator that generates multiple types of delayed signals by adding a finite state machine. The hardware design was coded in Verilog HDL, and performance is verified by applying it to image processing hardware using field programmable gate array board.

Development of Quality Assurance Program for the On-board Imager Isocenter Accuracy with Gantry Rotation (갠트리 회전에 의한 온-보드 영상장치 회전중심점의 정도관리 프로그램 개발)

  • Positional accuracy of the on-board imager (OBI) isocenter with gantry rotation was presented in this paper. Three different type of automatic evaluation methods of discrepancies between therapeutic and OBI isocenter using digital image processing techniques as well as a procedure stated in the customer acceptance procedure (CAP) were applied to check OBI isocenter migration trends. Two kinds of kV x-ray image set obtained at OBI source angle of $0^{\circ},\;90^{\circ},\;180^{\circ},\;270^{\circ}$ and every $10^{\circ}$ and raw projection data for cone-beam CT reconstruction were used for each evaluation method. Efficiencies of the methods were also estimated. If a user needs to obtain an isocenter variation map with full gantry rotation, a method taking OBI image for every $10^{\circ}$ and fitting with 5th order polynomial was appropriate. However for a mere quality assurance (QA) purpose of OBI isocenter accuracy, it was adequate to use only four OBI Images taken at the OBI source angle of $0^{\circ},\;90^{\circ},\;180^{\circ}\;and\;270^{\circ}$. Maximal discrepancy was 0.44 mm which was observed between the OBI source angle of $90^{\circ}\;and\;180^{\circ}$ OBI isocenter accuracy was maintained below 0.5 mm for a year. Proposed QA program may be helpful to Implement a reasonable routine QA of the OBI isocenter accuracy without great efforts.

Multiple Camera Based Imaging System with Wide-view and High Resolution and Real-time Image Registration Algorithm (다중 카메라 기반 대영역 고해상도 영상획득 시스템과 실시간 영상 정합 알고리즘)

  • For high speed visual inspection in semiconductor industries, it is essential to acquire two-dimensional images on regions of interests with a large field of view (FOV) and a high resolution simultaneously. In this paper, an imaging system is newly proposed to achieve high quality image in terms of precision and FOV, which is composed of single lens, a beam splitter, two camera sensors, and stereo image grabbing board. For simultaneously acquired object images from two camera sensors, Zhang's camera calibration method is applied to calibrate each camera first of all. Secondly, to find a mathematical mapping function between two images acquired from different view cameras, the matching matrix from multiview camera geometry is calculated based on their image homography. Through the image homography, two images are finally registered to secure a large inspection FOV. Here the inspection system of using multiple images from multiple cameras need very fast processing unit for real-time image matching. For this purpose, parallel processing hardware and software are utilized, such as Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA). As a result, we can obtain a matched image from two separated images in real-time. Finally, the acquired homography is evaluated in term of accuracy through a series of experiments, and the obtained results shows the effectiveness of the proposed system and method.

Expression of image contents based on property of digital signage - Focuses on the Digital Signage in Public Transport (디지털 사이니지의 특성에 따른 영상콘텐츠의 변화 -버스와 지하철 내 디지털 사이니지를 중심으로)

  • TV display which existed only in house started to show up out of house around us and now it found naturally its place in everywhere like street, bus, subway and elevator. It is called digital signage which showed up through digitalization of sign, that is, sign board and bulletin board. The distinction of digital sign from existing signs is that the latter one should go through physical process like removal after installation every time its contents are changed but the former one can produce its various outputs flexibly once it is installed. Also existing sign may be static image or 2 or 3 pieces of image to express simple motion while digital sign can contain multi media contents luxurious in design and motion. This paper confined the range of contents in digital signage in bus and subway. It needs to analyze characteristics of mass transportation-people of use, consumer by place and time, accommodation environment for consumer etc and arrange planned contents along with time and place. Developments of dedicated contents suitable to those digital signages will harmonize with place and time and promote the realm of digital signage which provides variety of experience to consumer and with which communication is possible and which is distinctive. Furthermore we may expect the birth of smart signage as a new media, in which fun and art are combined.

The Effect of Patients Positioning System on the Prescription Dose in Radiation Therapy (방사선치료 시 자세확인시스템이 처방선량에 미치는 영향)

  • Planning dose must be delivered accurately for radiation therapy. Also, It must be needed accurately setup. However, patient positioning images were need for accuracy setup. Then patient positioning images is followed by additional exposure to radiation. For 45 points in the phantom, we measured the doses for 6 MV and 10 MV photon beams, OBI(On Board Imager) and CBCT(Conebeam Computed Tomography) using OSLD(Optically Stimulated Luminescent Dosimeter). We compared the differences in the cases where posture confirmation imaging at each point was added to the treatment dose. Also, we tried to propose a photography cycle that satisfies the 5% recommended by AAPM(The American Association of Physicists in Medicine). As a result, a maximum of 98.6 cGy was obtained at a minimum of 45.27 cGy at the 6 MV, a maximum of 99.66 cGy at a minimum of 53.34 cGy at the 10 MV, a maximum of 2.64 cGy at the minimum of 0.19 cGy for the OBI and a maximum of 17.18 cGy at the minimum of 0.54 cGy for the CBCT.The ratio of the radiation dose to the treatment dose is 3.49% in the case of 2D imaging and the maximum is 22.65% in the case of 3D imaging. Therefore, tolerance of 2D image is 1 exposure per day, and 3D image is 1 exposure per week. And it is need to calculation of separate in the parallelism at additional study.

Implementation for Hardware IP of Real-time Face Detection System (실시간 얼굴 검출 시스템의 하드웨어 IP 구현)

  • This paper propose the hardware IP of real-time face detection system for mobile devices and digital cameras required for high speed, smaller size and lower power. The proposed face detection system is robust against illumination changes, face size, and various face angles as the main cause of the face detection performance. Input image is transformed to LBP(Local Binary Pattern) image to obtain face characteristics robust against illumination changes, and detected the face using face feature data that was adopted to learn and generate in the various face angles using the Adaboost algorithm. The proposed face detection system can be detected maximum 36 faces at the input image size of QVGA($320{\times}240$), and designed by Verilog-HDL. Also, it was verified hardware implementation by using Virtex5 XC5VLX330 FPGA board and HD CMOS image sensor(CIS) for FPGA verification.

  • Austomated visual inspection(AVI) capability has become an important key component in the automated manufacturing system. In such a visual inspection system an intensity(or color) image of a scene is quickly affected by optical property of objects, condition and roughness of surface, lens and filters, image sensor property and lighting system. In particular, the lighting system disign is the most important factor, since it affects overall performance of the visual system. For fast and cheap automated visual inspection system it is important to obtain the good image quality which results from careful attention to the design of the lighting system. In this paper, the lighting subsystem of AVI system is analysed for the inspection of printed circuit board(PCB) patterns. The spectral reflectance of materials, which are composed of PCB, is measured for choosing the light source. The reflection property is theoretically obtained by a reflection model and also obtained by experiments which measure intensity with varying the viewing direction of image sensor and the lighting direction of illuminator. The illumination uniformity of a ring-type illuminator. The lighting system is designed based upon the experimental results and theoretial analysis.
