Color Space Based Objects Detection System from Video Sequences

  • This paper propose a statistical color model of background extraction base on Hue-Saturation-Value(HSV) color space, instead of the traditional RGB space, and shows that it provides a better use of the color information. HSV color space corresponds closely to the human perception of color and it has revealed more accuracy to distinguish shadows [3] [4]. The key feature of this segmentation method is based on processing hue component of color in HSV color space on image area. The HSV color model is used, its color components are efficiently analyzed and treated separately so that the proposed algorithm can adapt to different environmental illumination condition and shadows. Polar and linear statistical operations are used to calculate the background from the video frames. The experimental results show that the proposed background subtraction method can automatically segment video objects robustly and accurately in various illuminating and shadow environments.

  • Many of non-contact measuring systems are used to estimate surface characteristics owing to their advantages of high speed and undanaged test. In this paper, a new measuring system is proposed to acquire image from CCD camera through back light illumination. Lowpass filter is very useful in view of noise removal and optimum binary image can be made through histogram equalization which is one of the histogram technique to maximize brightness intensity between workpiece and background. Laplacian operator is used to detect workpiece edge from binary image. In case of image treatment applying Laplacian operator, surface roughness is calculated by introducing conversion coefficient for coordinate of pixel which edge is composed of. In summary, the work is concerned with the development of a new technique for roughness measurement by the image processing in turning.

  • Development of vision system as a nondestructive evaluation system can be very useful in screening the defective mechanical parts before they are assembled into the final product. Since the tens of thousands of the mechanical parts are used in an automobile carefully inspecting the quality of the mechanical parts is very important to maximize the performance of the automobile. To sort out the defective mechanical parts before they are assembled, auto parts fabrication companies employ various inspection systems. Nondestructive evaluation systems are getting rapidly popular among various inspection systems. In this study, we have developed a vision system to inspect the inside of the brake caliper, a part that is used to compose a brake which is the most important to the safety of the drivers and the passengers. In a brake caliper, a piston is pushed against the brake disk by oil pressure, causing a friction to damp the rotation of the wheel. Inside the caliper, a groove is positioned to adopt an oil seal to prevent the oil leaks. Inspecting the groove with our vision system, we could examine the existence of the contaminants which are normally the residual tiny pieces from the machining process. We used a high resolution GigE camera, 360 degree lens to look in the inside view of the caliper at once, and a special illumination system in this vision system. We used the edge detection technique to successfully detect the contaminants which were in the form of small metal chips. Labview graphical program was used to process the digital data from the camera and to display the vision and the statistics of the contaminants. We were very successful in detecting the contaminants from the various size calipers. We think we are ready to employ this vision system to the caliper production factories.

  • 본 논문에서는 무인 크레인의 자동화 시스템 구축을 위하여 작업 공간 상에 있는 Slab와 Coil의 형상 판별 및 3차원 위치 좌표를 산업현장의 환경에 구애받지 않고 정확하게 추출할 수 있는 통합 비전 시스템을 개발하였다. 기존의 연구에서 Laser Scanner의 경우 산업현장의 환경에 영향을 많이 받기 때문에 정확한 물체의 형상 판별 및 위치 데이터를 추출 할 수 없는 경우가 빈번히 발생하였다. 이러한 단점들을 극복하기 위하여 본 논문에서는 Laser Scanner와 CCD 카메라를 정합하여 Slab와 Coil의 형상을 판별하고 3차원 위치좌표를 추출하는 통합 비전 시스템을 제안한다. 본 논문에서 제안한 시스템은 무인 크레인의 자동화 시스템 구축에 상당한 도움이 될 것으로 기대 된다.

  • 자동 시각 검사 장비는 전 세계적으로 제조업 기반의 기업들의 공장 자동화 시스템의 주요 장비로 자리 잡고 있다. 반도체, LCD, 철강, 제지 등 다양한 분야에서 품질관리의 자동화를 위하여 필수적으로 활용되고 있다. 그러나 대학, 직업전문학교 등의 교육기관에서는 이에 대한 교육이 거의 이뤄지지 못하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 자동 시각 검사 시스템의 기술훈련을 위하여 라인스캔 카메라 기반의 자동 시각 검사 장비 교육을 위한 실습 장비에 대해서 다루고 있다. 제작된 시스템은 산업현장에 널리 사용되고 있는 X-Y stage 기반으로 구성되었으며, 영상의 픽셀해상도는 $10-30{\mu}m$의 범위에서 가변적으로 조절 가능하다. 또한 조명구조에 따른 영상효과를 확인하기 위하여, 측면 직사조명과 동축조명을 장착하여 활용할 수 있도록 구성되어 있다. 이는 훈련자가 실습환경에서 다양한 조건들을 변경시키며 실습을 수행할 수 있음을 의미하며, 실제 제조 현장에서 활용되는 라인스캔 카메라 기반의 머신비전 시스템과 거의 동일한 기능을 수행하도록 제작되었다.

Development of Automated Guidance Tracking Sensor System Based on Laser Distance Sensors

  • Purpose: Automated guidance systems (AGSs) for mobile farm machinery have several advantages over manual operation in the crop production industry. Many researchers and companies have tried to develop such a system. However, it is not easy to evaluate the performance of an AGS because there is no established device used to evaluate it that complies with the ISO 12188 standard. The objective of this study was to develop a tracking sensor system using five laser distance measurement sensors. Methods: One sensor-for long-range distance measurement-was used to measure travel distance and velocity. The other four sensors-for mid-range distance measurement-were used to measure lateral deviation. Stationary, manual driving, and A-B line tests were conducted, and the results were compared with the real-time kinematic differential global positioning system (RTK-DGPS) signal used by the AGS. Results: For the stationary test, the average error of the tracking sensor system was 1.99 mm, and the average error of the RTK-DGPS was 15.19 mm. For the two types of driving tests, the data trends were similar. A comparison of the changes in lateral deviation showed that the data stability of the developed tracking system was better. Conclusions: Although the tracking system was not capable of measuring long travel distances under strong sunlight illumination because of the long-range sensor's limitations, this dilemma could be overcome using a higher-performance sensor.

On-the-go Nitrogen Sensing and Fertilizer Control for Site-specific Crop Management

  • In-field site-specific nitrogen (N) management increases crop yield, reduces N application to minimize the risk of nitrate contamination of ground water, and thus reduces farming cost. Real-time N sensing and fertilization is required for efficient N management. An 'on-the-go' site-specific N management system was developed and evaluated for the supplemental N application to com (Zea mays L.). This real-time N sensing and fertilization system monitored and assessed N fertilization needs using a vision-based spectral sensor and controlled the appropriate variable N rate according to N deficiency level estimated from spectral signature of crop canopies. Sensor inputs included ambient illumination, camera parameters, and image histogram of three spectral regions (red, green, and near-infrared). The real-time sensor-based supplemental N treatment improved crop N status and increased yield over most plots. The largest yield increase was achieved in plots with low initial N treatment combined with supplemental variable-rate application. Yield data for plots where N was applied the latest in the season resulted in a reduced impact on supplemental N. For plots with no supplemental N application, yield increased gradually with initial N treatment, but any N application more than 101 kg/ha had minimal impact on yield.

전력선 통신용 재변조방식의 BPSK복조기 실현에 관한연구 (A Study on the Implementation of BPSK Demodulator with Remodulation Method for Power Line Carrier Communication)

  • 본 논문에서는 신호감쇄 및 연집잡음(burst noise)이 존재하는 전력선 반송 채널에서 디지틀 데이터를 복조하기 위한 BPSK(Binary Phase Shift Keying) 복조기의 설계에 대하여 논한다. 이러한 BPSK 복조기의 실현에 있어서 반송파 동기호로는 소형화 및 안정화가 요구되며, 입력주파수의 변동에 대해서 낮은 위상 오차가 필요하게 된다. 이와 같은 요구조건을 만족하기 위해서 본 논문에서는 반송주파수가 10.4[kHz]이고, 전송속도가 110[bps]인 재변조방식의 BPSK 복조기를 설계 제작하였다. 설계 제작한 반송파 동기회로는 기존의 아날로그 소자로 구성되었던 승산기(multiplier) 및 지연회로를 PLL(Phase Locked Loop) IC로 대치하여 소형화 및 안정성을 확보하였으며, PLL회로 설계시에 주위온도 등을 고려하여 주파수 인입범위를 $\pm$4[kHz], 정상위상오차를 $\pm$60로 설정하였다. 기능시험 결과로부터, BPSK 복조기의 동작기능은 정상상태에서 설계조건에 만족함을 알 수 있었다.

Camera-based Music Score Recognition Using Inverse Filter

  • The influence of acquisition environment on music score images captured by a camera has not yet been seriously examined. All existing Optical Music Recognition (OMR) systems attempt to recognize music score images captured by a scanner under ideal conditions. Therefore, when such systems process images under the influence of distortion, different viewpoints or suboptimal illumination effects, the performance, in terms of recognition accuracy and processing time, is unacceptable for deployment in practice. In this paper, a novel, lightweight but effective approach for dealing with the issues caused by camera based music scores is proposed. Based on the staff line information, musical rules, run length code, and projection, all regions of interest are determined. Templates created from inverse filter are then used to recognize the music symbols. Therefore, all fragmentation and deformation problems, as well as missed recognition, can be overcome using the developed method. The system was evaluated on a dataset consisting of real images captured by a smartphone. The achieved recognition rate and processing time were relatively competitive with state of the art works. In addition, the system was designed to be lightweight compared with the other approaches, which mostly adopted machine learning algorithms, to allow further deployment on portable devices with limited computing resources.

한글 수화의 실시간 인식 시스템의 구현 (Implementation of Real-time Recognition System for Korean Sign Language)

  • 본 논문은 복잡한 배경에서 표식없는 손을 추적하여 한글 수화를 인식하는 시스템에 관한 것이다. 제안한 방법은 먼저 인접한 프레임간의 차 영상에 대하여 엔트로피를 측정한다. 큰 값을 갖는 영역에 대해 피부색에 가까운 분포를 갖는 색상 정보를 추출하여 배경 영상으로부터 손 영역만을 추출한다. 추출된 손 영역에 대해 윤곽선을 검출하고 개선된 무게중심 프로필(centroidal profile) 방법을 적용하여 수화를 인식한다. 6가지 모양의 수화를 사용한 실험결과 기존의 방법들과 달리 표식을 사용하지 않고도 복잡한 배경과 조명의 변화에서 안정적으로 수화를 인식할 수 있다. 또한 초당 15프레임 정도의 처리속도로 각 사람별로 95%이상, 각 수화별로 $90\sim100%$의 인식률을 얻을 수 있다.
