Optical Sensitivity of TL Glow Peaks Separated Using Computerized Glow Curve Deconvolution for RTL Quartz

  • Background: The retrospective dosimetry using RTL quartz can be improved by information for an optical sensitivity of sample connected with the equivalent dose determination. Materials and Methods: The quartz sample from a volcanic rock of Japan was used. After correcting the thermal quenching effect, RTL peaks of quartz were separated by the CGCD method cooperated with the general order kinetics. The number of overlapped glow peaks were ascertained by the $T_m-T_{stop}$ method. The optical sensitivity was examined by comparing the change of intensity on RTL glow peaks measured after exposure to light from a solar simulator with various illumination times. Results and Discussion: Seven glow peaks appeared to be overlapped on the RTL glow curve. The general order kinetics model was appropriate to separate glow peaks. After exposure to light from a solar simulator from a few minutes to 416 hr, the signals for peaks P4 and P5 decayed following the form of $f(t)=a_1e^{-{\lambda}1t}$, while the signals for peaks P6 and P7 decayed by the form of $f(t) = a_1e^{-{\lambda}1t}+a_2e^{-{\lambda}2t}+a_3e^{-{\lambda}3t}$. Conclusion: For dosimetric peaks, the times taken to reduce the RTL signal to half of its initial value were 70 sec for the peak P4, 54 s for the peak P5, 9,840 sec for the peak P6 and 26,580 sec for the peak P7, respectively. We conclude that the optical sensitivity of peaks P4, and P5 gives much higher than that of peaks P6 and P7.

  • Many algorithms have been proposed for (ace recognition that is one of the most successful applications in image processing, pattern recognition and computer vision fields. Research for what kind of attribute of face that make harder or easier recognizing the target is going on recently. In flus paper, we propose method to improve recognition performance using relevance of face data and applied algorithms, because recognition performance of each algorithm according to facial attribute(illumination and expression) is change. In the experiment, we use n-tuple classifier, PCA and Gabor wavelet as recognition algorithm. And we propose three vectorization methods. First of all, we estimate the fitnesses of three recognition algorithms about each cluster after clustering the test data using k-means algorithm then we compose new clusters by integrating clusters that select same algorithm. We estimate similarity about a new cluster of test data and then we recognize the target using the nearest cluster. As a result, we can observe that the recognition performance has improved than the performance by a single algorithm without clustering.

  • Recently many robot manipulators are used for various areas of industriesand factories. It has been frequently observed that the robot manipulator fails to complete the function when the object changes its original position, Due to the unexpected impacts and vibrations the center and direction of the object would be shifted in many real application. In this study, a visual sensing algorithm for the robot manipulator is proposed. The algorithm consists of two parts : Detection of the object migration and adjustments of the orobot manipulators Tool Coordinate System. The image filtering technique with visual sensor is applied for the first part of the algorithm. The change of illumination intensity indicates the object migration. Once the object migration is detected, the second part of the algorithm calculates the current position of the object. Then it adjusts the robot manipulators Tool Coordinate System. The robot manipulator and the Visual sensor communicate each other using interrupt technique via proposed algorithm. It has been observed that the proposed algorithm reduces the malfunction of a robot manipulator significantly. Thus it can provide better line balance-up of the manufacturing processes and prevent industrial accidents efficiently.

  • In a manufacturing process of metal coins, surface defects of coins are manually detected. This paper describes an new method for detecting surface defects of metal coins on a moving conveyor belt using image processing. This method consists of multiple procedures: segmentation of a coin from the background, alignment of the coin to the model, projection of the aligned coin to the best eigen image space, and detection of defects by comparison of the projection error with an adaptive threshold. In these procedures, the alignement and the projection are newly developed in this paper for the detection of coin surface defects. For alignment, we use the histogram of the segmented coin, which converts two-dimensional image alignment to one-dimensional alignment. The projection reduces the intensity variation of the coin image caused by illumination and coin rotation change. For projection, we build multiple eigen image spaces and choose the best eigen space using estimated coin direction. Since each eigen space consists of a small number of eigen image vectors, we can implement the projection in real- time.

  • Dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) having high efficiency with low cost was first reported by Gr$\ddot{a}$tzel et al. Many DSSC research groups attempt to enhance energy conversion efficiency by modifying the dye, electrolyte, Pt-coated electrode, and $TiO_2$ films. However, there are still some problems against realization of high-sensitivity DSSC such as the recombination of injected electrons in conduction band and the limited adsorption of dye on $TiO_2$ surface. The surface of $TiO_2$ is very important for improving hydrophilic property and dye adsorption on its surface. In this paper, we report a very efficient method to improve the efficiency and stability of DSSC with nano-structured $TiO_2$. Atmospheric plasma system was utilized for nitrogen plasma treatment on nano-structured $TiO_2$ film. We confirmed that the efficiency of DSSC was significantly dependent on plasma power. Relative in the $TiO_2$ surface change and characteristics after plasma was investigated by various analysis methods. The structure of $TiO_2$ films was examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The morphology of $TiO_2$ films was observed using a field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). The surface elemental composition was determined using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Each of plasma power differently affected conversion efficiency of DSSC with plasma-treated $TiO_2$ compared to untreated DSSC under AM 1.5 G spectral illumination of $100mWcm^{-2}$.

A study on the accommodation of common LED to shipboard (육상용 LED 램프의 선박 적응력에 관한 연구)

  • Common LED (Light Emitting Diode) lamp has many advantages to compare with fluorescent lamp, long life and no pollution matter like the mercury. The LED lamp is a good light source especially for shipboard lighting because of its compact structure which prevents explosion and shock. Also, low maintenance cost is expected due to its longer life time in comparison with conventional lamps. The LED lamp, however, need some estimates that change of voltage and frequency, vibration, moisture on board to definite accommodation of the LED lamp to shipboard. The purpose of this study is to compare physical properties of a fluorescent lamp with one of the common LED lamp so as to analyze accommodation of common LED lamp on board. This study was carried out in two stages. First, temperature, humidity of illumination, voltage, electric current, frequency and electric power were measured by using experimental equipments. Second, a comparative analysis of consumption electric power, annual oil charge, annual CO2 emission and lamp life time, etc of the fluorescent lamp and common LED one was made. As a result of the study, the consumption electric power of fluorescent lamp was 50% higher than one of the common LED lamp. As a result of measuring life time, it was found that life time of common LED lamp was more about 3.5 fold than one of the fluorescent lamp. Considering these results, it's thought that common LED lamp is verified that energy saving is possible and using is possible as substitute for fluorescent lamp on board.

  • Many artificial intelligence (AI) techniques have been embedded into various engineering technologies to assist them in achieving different goals. The integration of modern technologies with energy consumption management system and occupant's comfort inside buildings results in the introduction of intelligent building concept. The major aim of this integration is to manage the energy consumption effectively and keeping the occupant satisfied with the internal environment of the building. The last few couple of years have seen many applications of AI techniques for optimizing the energy consumption with maximizing the user comfort in smart buildings but still there is much room for improvement in this area. In this paper, a hybrid of two AI algorithms called firefly algorithm (FA) and genetic algorithm (GA) has been used for user comfort maximization with minimum energy consumption inside smart building. A complete user friendly system with data from various sensors, user, processes, power control system and different actuators is developed in this work for reducing power consumption and increase the user comfort. The inputs of optimization algorithms are illumination, temperature and air quality sensors' data and the user set parameters whereas the outputs of the optimization algorithms are optimized parameters. These optimized parameters are the inputs of different fuzzy controllers which change the status of different actuators according to user satisfaction.

Effective Marker Placement Method By De Bruijn Sequence for Corresponding Points Matching (드 브루인 수열을 이용한 효과적인 위치 인식 마커 구성)

  • In computer vision, it is very important to obtain reliable corresponding feature points. However, we know it is not easy to find the corresponding feature points exactly considering by scaling, lighting, viewpoints, etc. Lots of SIFT methods applies the invariant to image scale and rotation and change in illumination, which is due to the feature vector extracted from corners or edges of object. However, SIFT could not find feature points, if edges do not exist in the area when we extract feature points along edges. In this paper, we present a new placement method of marker to improve the performance of SIFT feature detection and matching between different view of an object or scene. The shape of the markers used in the proposed method is formed in a semicircle to detect dominant direction vector by SIFT algorithm depending on direction placement of marker. We applied De Bruijn sequence for the markers direction placement to improve the matching performance. The experimental results show that the proposed method is more accurate and effective comparing to the current method.

  • The tools and techniques for measuring the spectral distribution of light emitted by, transmitted by, or reflected from food surfaces are described for determining the extent to which original natural color is preserved in processing and subsequent storage of foods. Color differences may be evaluated indirectly in terms of some physical characteristic of the sample or extracted fraction thereof that is largely responsible for the color characteristics. For evaluation more directly in terms of what the observer actually seen, color differences are measured by reflectance spectrophotometry and photoelectric colorimetry and expressed as differences in psychophysical indexes such as luminous reflectance and chromaticity. The standard system, against which other systems could be compared, is the one recommended by the International Committee on illumination and which is based on the 'standard observer', which is a simulated standard eye, consisting of three primary color filters Z, with X being essentially amber in color, Y, green and Z, blue. Any spectrophotometric curve of reflectance obtained from the surface of an object can be integrated in terms of X, Y and Z. Psychophysical notation may be converted by standard methods to the colorimetrically more descriptive terms of Munsell hue, value and chroma.

Driving Assist System using Semantic Segmentation based on Deep Learning (딥러닝 기반의 의미론적 영상 분할을 이용한 주행 보조 시스템)

  • Conventional lane detection algorithms have problems in that the detection rate is lowered in road environments having a large change in curvature and illumination. The probabilistic Hough transform method has low lane detection rate since it exploits edges and restrictive angles. On the other hand, the method using a sliding window can detect a curved lane as the lane is detected by dividing the image into windows. However, the detection rate of this method is affected by road slopes because it uses affine transformation. In order to detect lanes robustly and avoid obstacles, we propose driving assist system using semantic segmentation based on deep learning. The architecture for segmentation is SegNet based on VGG-16. The semantic image segmentation feature can be used to calculate safety space and predict collisions so that we control a vehicle using adaptive-MPC to avoid objects and keep lanes. Simulation results with CARLA show that the proposed algorithm detects lanes robustly and avoids unknown obstacles in front of vehicle.
