Total particulate mater (TPM), $NO_2$ and $NH_3$ were measured simultaneously in the smoking and non-smoking locations during an eleven month period from March 1986 to January 1987 at three sites in Chicago : Illinois Institute of Technology Cafeteria, Rush-Presbyterian St. Lukes Medical Center Cafeteria and a downtown office building. From this study, the mean concentrations of $NO_2$ and $NH_3$ were not significantly different between the smoking and non-smoking locations at any sampling site ; however, there was a statistical difference for TPM between the smoking and non-smoking locations. Activity factor was useful for describing the contribution from indoor source. The linear regression analysis was reasonable method for discriminating the individual contribution of source to determine the emission factor. The TPM emission factor determined from this technique was in good agreement with value from the literature.
This research paper advances our understanding of complex interdependence among countries. Existing research has found that total factor productivity (TFP), the residual from the economic growth function, is hindered in the absence of a country's strong political and legal institutions or if a country does not already have a sufficiently high level of TFP. We also know that regional efforts to eliminate pollution are complex. Bridging these two areas while focusing on a high polluting yet high innovating region, the following research questions are posed: Are Northeast Asian countries key collaborators in pursuit of green R&D? Are Northeast Asian countries collaborating extensively with each other? What are the implications for other regions' attempts to establish these kinds of relations? To answer the above questions, biofuels-related technology as defined in the International Patent Classification's "green inventory" of environmentally sound technologies is examined. Patent data is drawn from the USPTO and inventors' country origin as the unit of analysis. For the 1990-2013 period, the Northeast Asian countries are in the core of a small set of collaborating countries. There is evidence that their centrality has increased in recent years. Most importantly, East Asia is becoming a singular research hub in terms of biofuels-related R&D, offering a counter in the foreseeable future to the dominance of the American and European research network hubs.

The creep behavior of Ni-Cr-W alloy at 950 ℃ has been investigated by a novel creep testing system which is capable of in-situ measurement of strain. Tubular specimens were pressurized with argon gas for effective stresses up to 32 MPa. Experimental results show that the thermal fatigue reduces the creep life of the tubular specimens and with the introduction of thermal cycling fatigue the primary stage disappears and the creep rate higher than the pure thermal creep (without thermal fatigue). Also the creep behavior of Ni-Cr-W alloy doesn't consist in the secondary stage. A new creep equation has been derived and implemented into finite element method. The results from the finite element analyses are in good agreement with the creep experiment.

The objectives of the research were 1) to develop the low-cost and high efficient desalination system to treat brackish water having high salt contents for irrigation at greenhouses near coast, and 2) to monitor and assess the effects of the brackish water desalination system on soil environment and growth in squash greenhouse cultivation area. The monitoring site was one of the squash greenhouse cultivation farm at Choengam-ri, Jinsang-myun, Gwangyang-si, Jeonnam-Do Monitoring results for groundwater irrigation water quality, and salinity showed a remarkable difference between control and treatment group. The salinity of soil at treatment group was less than at control group. While, the system made possible to increase the squash quantity from 4.7 ea to 6.3 ea at each and the average weight of the harvested squash was increased from 277.2 g to 295.1 g. The applied brackish water desalination system may be appled to reclaim sea or brackish irrigated area as alternative water resources, although long-term monitoring is needed to get more representative results at different level of salinity.

Fast delivery of construction projects provides more value to project owners. Batch production, which is production not in single pieces, but in batches, is a common approach in repetitive construction projects such as multi-unit residential building construction projects. In batch production, the use of a small batch size allows the early start of subsequent activities, and thus can lead to early completion of projects. In addition to batch size, balance between productivities in construction activities can affect project duration. However, the impact of the balance between productivities with regard to their order on project duration has not been studied. The main goal of this study is to test a hypothesis, which is that the order of construction activities' unbalanced productivities affects the amount of time reduction that can be achieved by using a small batch size. A computer-based simulation model was developed, and five different cases were simulated to test the hypothesis. The conclusion of the simulation result is that the order of productivities does not affect the time reduction achieved by using a small batch size. It is expected that the findings of this study can help general contractors make decisions in terms of batch size.
An algorithm for fault detection and classification method for wide-area protection in Korean transmission systems is proposed. The modeling of 345-kV and 765-kV Korean power system transmission networks using the Electro Magnetic Transient Program - Restructured Version (EMTP-RV) is presented and the algorithm for fault detection and classification in transmission lines is developed. The proposed algorithm uses the Wavelet Transform (WT) and Singular Value Decomposition (SVD). The Singular value of Approximation coefficient (SA) and part Sum of Detail coefficient (SD) are introduced. The characteristics of the SA and SD at the fault conditions are analyzed and used in the algorithm for fault detection and classification. The validation of the proposed algorithm is verified by various simulation results.
Let M be a fixed left R-module. For a left R-module X, we introduce the notion of M-prime (resp. M-semiprime) submodule of X such that in the case M=R, it coincides with prime (resp. semiprime) submodule of X. Other concepts encountered in the general theory are M-$m$-system sets, M-$n$-system sets, M-prime radical and M-Baer's lower nilradical of modules. Relationships between these concepts and basic properties are established. In particular, we identify certain submodules of M, called "primeM-ideals", that play a role analogous to that of prime (two-sided) ideals in the ring R. Using this definition, we show that if M satisfies condition H (defined later) and $Hom_R(M,X){\neq}0$ for all modules X in the category ${\sigma}[M]$, then there is a one-to-one correspondence between isomorphism classes of indecomposable M-injective modules in ${\sigma}[M]$ and prime M-ideals of M. Also, we investigate the prime M-ideals, M-prime submodules and M-prime radical of Artinian modules.
This paper presents the optimal scheduling of hourly consumption in a residential community (community, neighborhood, etc.) based on real-time electricity price. The residential community encompasses individual residential loads, communal (shared) loads, and local generation. Community-aggregated loads, which include residential and communal loads, are modeled as fixed, adjustable, shiftable, and storage loads. The objective of the optimal load scheduling problem is to minimize the community-aggregated electricity payment considering the convenience of individual residents and hourly community load characteristics. Limitations are included on the hourly utility load (defined as community-aggregated load minus the local generation) that is imported from the utility grid. Lagrangian relaxation (LR) is applied to decouple the utility constraint and provide tractable subproblems. The decomposed subproblems are formulated as mixed-integer programming (MIP) problems. The proposed model would be used by community master controllers to optimize the utility load schedule and minimize the community-aggregated electricity payment. Illustrative optimal load scheduling examples of a single resident as well as an aggregated community including 200 residents are presented to show the efficiency of the proposed method based on real-time electricity price.

Substitution of natural fine aggregates with industrial by-products like precious slag balls (PS Balls) offers various advantages like technical, economic and environmental which are very important in the present era of sustainability in construction industry. PS balls are manufactured by subjecting steel slag to slag atomizing Technology (SAT) which imparts them the desirable characteristics of fine aggregates. The main objective of this research paper is to assess the feasibility of producing good quality concrete by using PS balls, to identify the potential benefits by their incorporation and to provide solution for increasing their utilization in concrete applications. The study investigates the effect of PS balls as partial replacement of fine aggregates in various percentages (20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%) on mechanical properties of concrete such as compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, and flexural strength. The optimum mix was found to be at 40% replacement of PS balls with maximum strength of 62.89 MPa at 28 days curing. Permeability of concrete was performed and it resulted in a more durable concrete with replacement of PS balls at 40% and 100% as fine aggregates. These two specific values were considered as optimum replacement is 40% and also the maximum possible replacement is 100%. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis was done and it was found that the PS balls in concrete were unaffected and with optimum percentage of PS balls as fine aggregates in concrete resulted in good strength and less cracks. Hence, it is possible to produce good workable concrete with low water to cement ratio and higher strength concrete by incorporating PS balls.
Because a change in the natural frequencies of a structure indicates structural health problems, monitoring the natural frequencies crucial. Long-term measurement for the Uldolmok tidal current power plant structure has shown that its natural frequencies fluctuate with a constant cycle twice a day. In this study, lab-scale tests to investigate the causes of these natural frequency fluctuations were carried out in a circulating water channel. Three independent variables in the tests that could affect the fluctuation of the natural frequencies were the water level, current velocity, and boundary condition between the specimen and the bottom of the circulating water channel. The experimental results were verified with numerical ones using ABAQUS. It was found that the fluctuation of the natural frequencies was governed by a decrease in stiffness due to the boundary condition much more than the effect of added mass. In addition, it was found that the natural frequency would decrease with an increase in the tidal current velocity because of its nonlinearity when the boundary condition was severely deteriorated due to damage.
