폐윤활유 불법혼입 C중유 물성 분석 (Analysis of Illegally Mixed Used Lube Oil in Bunker C)

  • Bunker C is used in heavy-lift ships, furnaces, and boilers for generating heat, and power. Bunker C has only four regulations for quality standards and is rarely inspected in Korea. For these reasons, other oils such as used lubricant oil are commonly blended with Bunker C. This illegal mixture of fuel can damage the boilers, engines and affect the environment adversely. In this study, we investigate the fuel properties and perform atomic analysis of illegal Bunker C blended with used lube oil. The test results show that higher quantities of used lube oil in Bunker C have higher flash points, total acid numbers, copper corruption, solid contamination, and metal components. Further, increasing quantities of used lube oil in Bunker C cause lower viscosity, sulfur, and V content. However, adequate sample (approximately 1 L) is needed to evaluate presence of adulterants in Bunker C, we attempted the SIMDIST analysis. In the SIMDIST chromatogram, the used engine oils are detected for longer retention times than Bunker C owing to the high boiling point. We also quantitatively analyzed the lube oil content using SIMDIST.

  • 석유제품의 분별 및 유종의 불법혼입방지를 위해 현재 석유제품 내에 일정한 색을 띄는 가시적 식별제(착색제)를 혼입, 유통시키고 있다. 하지만 타유종이 미량 혼입되었을 경우, 육안으로 이를 판별하기 힘들다. 본 연구는 국내에서 사용되고 있는 가시적 식별제를 UV/Vis spectrophotometer를 이용하여, 이들을 분석할 수 있는 두 파장(370 nm, 645 nm)을 찾아내었다. 이렇게 분석된 파장에서 HPLC를 이용해 국내 석유제품 내의 가시적 식별제를 분리, 분석하였다. 또한 정상 석유제품에 타유종을 혼합한 뒤, 가시적 식별제를 분석함으로 석유제품의 불법 혼합판별을 할 수 있는 분석방법을 찾아내었다.

  • Alcohol components are illegally mixed with petroleum products for tax evasion purposes, but this degrades vehicle performance. The alcohol content in petroleum fuel can be analyzed by gas chromatography. However, this technique requires a long analysis time and is expensive. $CrO_3$, also known as Jones reagent, changes color upon reaction with an alcohol. In this study, therefore, we analyze alcohol contents in vehicle fuel by using $CrO_3$ aqueous solution.

  • The denuclearization of North Korea was unpredictable and resulted in radical changes. Despite the skepticism and disappointment surrounding denuclearization, it is important for certain verification technologies to establish what is technically possible or practically impossible, and how reliable these technical means are. This article presents the technical hurdles in nuclear verification by systematically categorizing them into issues of correctness and completeness. Moreover, it addresses the safety and security risks during the denuclearization process, including the radiological impact on humans, environmental effects, and the illegal transfer of material, information, and technologies.

  • 연료유로 사용되는 석유제품은 각각의 품질기준, 등급, 사용용도에 따라 여러 종류가 있다. 국가별로 유류에 세금을 부과하는 정도에 따라 동일한 석유제품이라 하더라도 가격차이가 발생한다. 가격이 저렴한 비과세의 석유제품을 상대적으로 고가인 수송용 연료에 불법적으로 혼합하는 행위로 인하여 탈세, 환경오염, 차량고장 등의 문제가 발생한다. 이러한 석유제품간 불법 혼합을 방지하기 위해 특정 석유제품에 미량의 식별제(Marker)를 법적으로 첨가하고 있다. 국내에서는 가정용 및 상업용 연료로 사용되는 등유를 자동차용 경유에 불법적으로 혼합하는 행위를 방지하기 위하여 식별제를 도입하여 사용하고 있으며, UV-Vis 분광광도계나 HPLC를 이용하여 식별제 함량을 정량적으로 분석하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존에 식별제 함량 분석을 위해 발색제를 첨가하거나 시료를 전처리하는 조작없이 GC-MS로 석유제품에 첨가된 식별제를 정성적 및 정량적으로 분석하는 방법을 개발하였다.

고농도 알코올 혼합 석유제품이 자동차 성능 및 배출가스에 미치는 영향 연구 (The Study on Effect of Emissions and Performance of a Conventional Vehicle using the High Concentration Alcohol Blended Petroleum Product)

  • As concern about energy security and global warming many countries have been making effort to reduce fossil fuel. In the case of US, as one of the efforts, the standards of the alcohol vehicle fuels(including blended with gasoline) have been established. Alcohol is known that make some trouble concerning startability, durability and corrosion when using as fuel of a conventional vehicle. For these reason, alcohol usage needs not only the fuel standard, but also a modified car. In the case of Korea, although there are no the standard and the modified vehicle yet, high concentration alcohol blended fuel has being sold at illegal market. In this study, exhaust gas and performance of the conventional vehicle that alcohol(methanol and isopropyl alcohol) blends were fueled were measured to notify danger of using them without preparation of institutional arrangements. Also, to analyze correlation characteristics of the fuels and them, property test of the fuels was conducted. The test result show that bad-startability caused by low RVP and high T10 affected increase in NMOG and CO. NOx was increased under the highest short term fuel trim caused by high Oxygen content and low NHV of alcohol. According to increasing as alcohol content, fuel economy and acceleration ability were decreased but $CO_2$ was not significantly decreased.

바이오매스에 바인더 첨가에 따른 폐기물 고형연료 특성 및 환경성평가 (Environmental Assessment and Characteristic of Refuse Derived Fuel by Mixed Biomass with Binder)

  • 우리나라는 산림총면적이 전 국토의 64.2%로 목재자원은 지속적으로 생산가능한 중요한 자원이지만 현재 재활용 가능한 폐목재가 분리, 수거되지 않고, 불법매립 및 소각 처리되고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 폐목재에 바이오매스자원인 왕겨와 저품위 무연탄을 혼합 압축하여 고형연료를 제조하였으며, 고형연료 제조 시 바인더와 첨가제의 바인딩효과를 분석하였다. 이때, 고형연료의 물리, 화학적 특성을 분석하였으며, 연료기준치와의 비교를 통해 적합성을 판단하였다. 실험결과 무연탄 20%, 왕겨 10%에서 최적의 밀도를 보였으며, P.V.A. (Polyvinyl alcohol), 구아검, 당밀 20 wt.%, 전분 10 wt.% 첨가 시 가장 우수한 것으로 나타났다. 대부분의 샘플이 연료 품질기준 4등급인 저위발열량 3,500 kcal/kg을 만족하는 것으로 나타났으며, 아스팔트 첨가 시 12.9%의 내구성 향상이 나타났고, NaOH 5% 쌀겨 첨가 시 최대 5.8%의 내구성이 향상되는 것으로 나타났다.

Feasibility Study of Forestry Project in Sarawak State, Malaysia

  • This research paper investigates available options for implementing clean development mechanism (CDM) project in Sarawak state, Malaysia. To investigate economic feasibility, data was collected using survey and field research methods. Also, economic analysis was estimated using net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR) and payback period (PBP) during the 30 years CDM: afforestation and reforestation periods. The result of economic analysis indicated that, the payback period was estimated at 9 years with 18 percent of internal rate of return (IRR). This study also highlighted that CDM biomass supply project have a lot of challenges due to the reduction and exclusion of bio-Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF), supply and demand scenario, and impact of restriction of illegal logging in Malaysia. This study results demonstrate the methodology and guideline for future CDM investment and projects.

몽골 울란바토르 복드한산 자연보호지역의 산림훼손지 경년변화 분석 (An analysis of year-to-year change of degraded forest land in Mongolia nature reserve Mt. Bogdkhan in Ulaanbaatar)

  • Focused on Mt. Bogdkhan nature reserve in Mongolia, this study was conducted as a fundamental research to discover a tendency and characteristics of forest damage and to draw up measures for proper plans of forest restoration through an analysis of year-to year change using satellite images. In specific, land cover mapping was conducted by using Landsat images from 1994 to 2011, and then year-to year change was analyzed to investigate the features of forest damage in Mt. Bogdkhan. The results showed that the whole area of a reservation in Mongolia in 2011 was about $416.89km^2$; among them, forest area was $167,87km^2$, accounting for about 40.3%, followed by bare patch and grassland area (58.6%) and urban dry area (1.1%). In particular, compared in 1994, the area of forest in 2011 has increased by $6.12km^2$; while bare patch and grassland area has decreased by $10.81km^2$. Primary causes of forest degradation occurred in Mt. Bogdkhan nature reserve included illegal logging for fuel, forest and grassland degradation caused by domestic animals grazing, man-made forest fire, and disaster caused by insect pest.
