PURPOSES : Ambiguous decision on whether rural or urban area for road design can increase the construction cost and restrict the land use of surrounding area. However, administrative classification on rural and urban area is not directly related to road design because of this classification is not based on the engineering viewpoint, so method which can explain the road design context is required. METHODS : Method which enables to identify the area for road design is suggested based on the deceleration expected to be experienced by drivers who use the road section concerned. Deceleration rate corresponding to the area such as rural or urban suggested in Road Design Guideline is used as the criteria to identify the area by comparing this value with the estimated deceleration rate at the road section concerned. Speed profile method is utilized to derive the deceleration rate, and speed estimation way for reflecting both road geometry and intersection is suggested using stopping sight distance concept. RESULTS : The procedure of the method application is suggested, and the design example utilizing the method is provided. CONCLUSIONS : The method is expected to be used to identify the area for road design with engineering viewpoint, and design consistency among the roads with similar driving environment can be made.
Purpose: This study was done to identify role conflict and job satisfaction in nurses in oriental medicine hospitals. Method: Study participants were 128 nurses employed in oriental medicine hospitals. The data were collected using a survey questionnaire. The instruments included a 37-item role conflict scale and 20-item job satisfaction scale. The data were analyzed using frequencies, means, percentages, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient with the Window's SPSS program. Result: There were significant differences in job satisfaction according to marital status, motivative for being a nurse and length of work time. The mean score for role conflict was 3.69 and for job satisfaction, 2.96. Job satisfaction had a significant inverse correlation with role conflict in these nurses. Conclusion: It is suggested that further studies are needed to identify factors affecting role conflict and job satisfaction in oriental medicine nurses, which will help to identify strategies to decrease the role conflict and increase job satisfaction in nurses employed in oriental medicine hospitals.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the nutrition-related factors influencing the prevalence of pressure ulcers among patients admitted to an intensive care unit. Methods: Research participants were 112 patients who were admitted to the ICU of a university hospital. Data were collected through questionnaires which included general characteristics, diet-related characteristics, nutritional status, and pressure ulcer status. Multivariate logistic regression was used to identify independent factors association with prevalence of pressure ulcer Results: The prevalence of pressure ulcers was 58 patients (51.8%) at 10th day after ICU admission. In multivariate analysis, prevalence of pressure ulcers at 10th day in ICU was significantly higher in the nutritional risk group (OR=6.43), malnutrition group (OR=88.02), and deceased serum albumin group (OR=28.83). Conclusion: The results of this research indicate that scores on MNA (Mini Nutritional Assessment) and serum albumin were significant predictors of pressure ulcer prevalence in ICU patients. Therefore, regular MNA-SF and albumin checkups are needed to identify risk for pressure ulcer for ICU patients. In the case of decreased MNA-SF scores and serum albumin levels, more intensive pressure ulcer care is needed for ICU patients.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the frequency and duration of primary health practitioners' work, and their job satisfaction, and to confirm differences in work and job satisfaction by type of primary health care post. Methods: Work frequency, duration of work, and job satisfaction were estimated by 371 primary health practitioners. Chi-square test and t-test were used to identify the differences in working patterns and job satisfaction by type of primary health care post. Results: Primary health practitioners were found to spend more time working with the elderly population than with students, pregnant women, children, people with disabilities, and multicultural families. Those in costal areas were more concerned with students than those working inland. In the latter group of practitioners, more time was spent working with patients with chronic diseases, pregnant women, women, children, multicultural families, and mental health clients. Also, the job satisfaction of inland primary health practitioners was significantly higher than that of costal practitioners. Conclusion: It is necessary to identify the characteristics of primary health practitioners' work, focusing on changes in the medical service environment. Furthermore, it is necessary to provide job training according to type of primary health care post, as practitioners' approaches should differ between posts.
The anti-collision algorithms to identify a number of tags in real-time in RFID systems are divided into the anti-collision algorithms based on the Framed slotted ALOHA that randomly select multiple slots to identify the tags, and the anti-collision algorithms based on the Tree-based algorithm that repeat the questions and answer process to identify the tags. In the hybrid algorithm which is combined the advantages of these algorithms, tags are distributed over the frames by selecting one frame among them and then identified by using the Query tree frame by frame. In this hybrid algorithm, however, the time of identifying all tags may increase if many tags are concentrated in a few frames. In this study, to improve the performance of the hybrid algorithm, we suggest an improved algorithm that the tags select a specific group of frames based on the earlier bits of the tag ID so that the tags are distribute equally over the frames. By using the simulation and mathematical analysis, we show that the suggested algorithm outperforms traditional hybrid algorithm from the viewpoint of the number of queries per frame and the time of identifying all tags.
Bridge bearings are important connection elements between bridge superstructures and substructures, whose health states directly affect the performance of the bridges. This paper systematacially presents a new method to identify the bridge bearing damage based on the neural network theory. Firstly, based on the analysis of different damage types, a description of the bearing damage is introduced, and a uniform description for all the damage types is given. Then, the feasibility and sensitivity of identifying the bearing damage with bridge vibration modes are investigated. After that, a Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN) is built, whose input and output are the beam modal information and the damage information, respectively. Finally, trained by plenty of data samples formed by the numerical method, the network is employed to identify the bearing damage. Results show that the bridge bearing damage can be clearly reflected by the modal information of the bridge beam, which validates the effectiveness of the proposed method.
Morning grooming is a ritual daily held for transition from private to public life of an individual. Based on the previous literature's definition of the ritual characteristics, this study aims to identify the meaning of grooming rituals that are repeatedly performed every morning. Although many studies have conducted ritualistic analysis of the behaviors that are closely related to daily life, few studies analyze grooming from a ritualistic perspective. Establishing the ritual - that is, a person's distinct behavioral pattern-as the core concept, this study reveals the relationship between ritual performers and the ritual's composition to identify the meaning of the grooming ritual. The study conducts qualitative research with ten participants to identify the ritual characteristics of every-morning grooming and the factors that influence this ritual. Considering everyday grooming as a behavioral pattern that possesses mostly ritualistic elements, the study examines both the external characteristics that are shown through the methods of grooming and the internal characteristics that reflect the inherent symbolic meaning. This study contributes to extending the scope of the field. By understanding the factors that influence grooming rituals, companies can communicate their marketing messages regarding the step-by-step approach to grooming, thereby supporting consumers to effectively use various grooming products.
Recently in Korea, due to the significant drop of lead and bromine levels as a marker of autoemission source in the urban areas, the conventional application of receptor methods has many difficulties to properly apportion mass contribution of some sources. It is then needed to urgently develop alternative source profiles and identify new emission markers. Thus, the study has extensively examined the results obtained from using PAHs and elemental data for receptor modeling and has provided an opportunity to identify alternative source compositions and to determine a proper number of the ambient emission sources in Seoul area. The purpose of the study is to identify the sources of PM-10 and to estimate their mass contributions in Seoul area. Thus, a receptor model, target transformation factor analysis(TTFA) has been massively applied. The TTFA offers the possibility of determining the number of sources and their mass contributions. The input data used in this study are composed of two separate sets: fine (d$_{p}$ < 2.5.mu.m) and coarse (2.5.mu.m < d$_{p}$ < 10.mu.m) mode aerosol samples. Each sample was simultaneously collected by a PM-10 dichotomous sampler during the daytime(8 AM to 8 PM) and the nighttime(8 PM to 8 AM) from February to October 1993 on the Sungdong-Gu, Seoul. All the samples were analyzed to determine the levels of 10 inorganic elements by an XRF system as well as 14 PAHs by a HPLC. However, only 8 inorganic elements and 7 PAHs were used for the various statistical analysis.sis.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identify the levels of anxiety, depression and uncertainty of patients who participated in the clinical trials for anticancer drug, and to identify correlations among these variables. Methods: Cross-sectional survey used the Symptom Check List-90-Revision and the Mishel Uncertainty in Illness Scale from 106 subjects in 2011. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: The mean score of anxiety was 2.06, that of depression 2.35, and that of uncertainty 2.61. Anxiety and depression (r=.70), anxiety and uncertainty (r=.44), depression and uncertainty (r=.60) were significantly correlated each other. The levels of anxiety, depression and uncertainty were different in various characteristics of the subjects, such as education, recurrence, and economic burden. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that when implementing psychosocial interventions for cancer patients who participate in clinical trial, factors such as education, economic burden, and recurrence should be integrated into the intervention. Further studies applying theoretical model would be helpful to identify directional relationships among the variables that are important in psychosocial well-being of cancer patients undergoing clinical trial.
