3차원 자세 추정 기법의 성능 향상을 위한 임의 시점 합성 기반의 고난도 예제 생성 (Hard Example Generation by Novel View Synthesis for 3-D Pose Estimation)

  • It is widely recognized that for 3D human pose estimation (HPE), dataset acquisition is expensive and the effectiveness of augmentation techniques of conventional visual recognition tasks is limited. We address these difficulties by presenting a simple but effective method that augments input images in terms of viewpoints when training a 3D human pose estimation (HPE) model. Our intuition is that meaningful variants of the input images for HPE could be obtained by viewing a human instance in the images from an arbitrary viewpoint different from that in the original images. The core idea is to synthesize new images that have self-occlusion and thus are difficult to predict at different viewpoints even with the same pose of the original example. We incorporate this idea into the training procedure of the 3D HPE model as an augmentation stage of the input samples. We show that a strategy for augmenting the synthesized example should be carefully designed in terms of the frequency of performing the augmentation and the selection of viewpoints for synthesizing the samples. To this end, we propose a new metric to measure the prediction difficulty of input images for 3D HPE in terms of the distance between corresponding keypoints on both sides of a human body. Extensive exploration of the space of augmentation probability choices and example selection according to the proposed distance metric leads to a performance gain of up to 6.2% on Human3.6M, the well-known pose estimation dataset.

영재를 위한 통합교육과정 개발의 방향: Drake 모형의 적용 가능성 탐색 (An Exploration of the Direction of Development of the Integrated Curriculum for Gifted: The Applicability of the Drake Model)

  • 본 연구에서는 학문중심 통합교육과정 관점으로 영재를 위한 통합교육과정을 개발할 수 있는지 그 가능성을 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 학문중심 통합교육과정 관점의 대표적인 모형인 Drake 모형을 기반으로 개발된 캐나다 온타리오 주의 통합교육과정을 분석하고, 과학영재학교 교육과정에의 적용 가능성을 탐색하였다. 온타리오 주의 사례는 학교 교육과정 내에 '큰 아이디어(Big Idea)'를 중심으로 통합교육과정을 개설하여 선택된 전공과정의 심화뿐만 아니라 타 학문과의 통합시도, 미래 문제의 해결을 위한 통합 적용 등의 가능성을 보여줌으로써 교과과정 내에서 또는 개인별 심화연구까지 통합을 통한 연구 가능성을 제시해주었다. Drake 모형에 기반한 온타리오 주의 통합교육과정을 영재를 위한 통합교육과정 개발에도 적용 가능한지를 살펴보기 위해 온타리오 주의 '정보학 개론' 과목을 국내 과학영재학교의 유사과목인 '정보과학' 과목에 적용해 본 결과, Drake 모형의 탐색 망, KDB 우산, 최종 과제 만들기 단계를 차별화하면 과학영재학교에서 현재 운영 중인 과목에도 충분히 적용 가능하다는 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 이를 통해 영재를 위한 통합교육과정을 개발하고 실행하기 위해서는 영재들이 학습해야 할 학습 목표, 이해를 보여줄 평가계획, 타학문 또는 실세계 문제와의 통합 경험제공 등을 고려해야 하고 이를 위해 통합교육과정 개발을 위한 교사 협의체를 구성하는 것이 필요하다는 점을 제안하였다.

총 스트레치 최소화를 위한 분할 가능 리퀘스트 흐름 스케줄링 (Minimizing the Total Stretch when Scheduling Flows of Divisible Requests without Interruption)

  • 웹 서버나 데이터베이스 서버와 같은 컴퓨터 서버들은 연속적으로 리퀘스트 스트림을 받는다. 이런 서버들은 유저들에게 최선의 서비스를 제공하기 위해 리퀘스트들을 스케줄링하여야 한다. 이 논문은 분할 가능 리퀘스트들을 스케줄링할 때 총 스트레치를 최소화하기 위해 혼합 유전자 알고리즘을 제안한다. 리퀘스트의 스트레치는 리퀘스트가 시스템에 머무는 시간에 대한 반응 시간의 비율로 정의된다. 혼합 유전자 알고리즘은 유전자 알고리즘의 활용과 탐구 능력를 개선하기 위해 시드 선택과 개발의 아이디어를 도입하였다. 혼합 유전자 알고리즘과 유전자 알고리즘의 성능을 비교하기 위하여 광범한 컴퓨터 실험이 실행되었다.

공과대학 신입생의 사고양식을 고려한 글쓰기 능력 탐색 (Exploration on Writing Ability Considering Thinking Styles in Engineering Freshmen)

  • This research aims to explore the relationships between academic writing ability and 'thinking styles' (capable of representing individual differences and diversity) in engineering freshmen in Korea, and to draw educational implications for the development of instructional strategies. (Academic) Writing is not just about conveying an idea or content, it is also about the representation of writer's self. In this perspective, there has been some research conducted on writing (process) and personality. However, to date, little attention has been paid to writing ability of engineering students and its relationships with thinking styles. This study was conducted with 127 engineering freshmen as well as 67 non-engineering freshmen at H University, and students' writing ability as well as their thinking styles have been measured before and after writing class for 15 weeks. Our findings show that firstly, there was a significant difference of writing ability by majors. Second, there were significant differences in freshmen's thinking styles by majors. Third, there was significant differences of writing ability according to thinking styles. Freshmen's internal, legislative and hierarchical styles scored significantly higher in writing ability than the others. And as for the engineering freshmen, internal, external and global styles scored significantly higher in writing ability than the others. Finally, there was a weak but significant relationship between writing ability and thinking styles(hierarchical & internal). These findings are expected to provide an explanation for the development of instructional strategies of writing (related) courses in engineering school.

박완서의 문학작품을 통해 본 서울 주거공간의 이분법적 시각 (Dichotomous View on Seoul Residential Areas presented in Park, Wan-So's Literary Works)

  • The exploration of the spatial structure of a particular urban area, or the analysis of the tendencies of spatial consumption among urbanites, can be a literary-geographical attitude, shifting literary interests toward geography. It may also constitute a field of cultural geography that reads texts as cultural symbols. Based on this kind of attitude, the paper reads the literature of Park Wan So, particularly the popular novels that involve urban and residential spaces of Seoul, as a cultural text that carries a kind of symbolism. It proceeds with the idea that most popular novels reflect the mass phenomena of its times, and that representing real cultural experiences through text, it becomes a means of generalizing the identity shared by the anonymous masses and the characteristics of particular places. Hence the individuality of Park Wan So, who moved to Seoul during the Japanese colonial period and hence forth lived as a middle-class citizen, is inseparable from her literary work. With this attitude and methodology, the paper argues that in the urban space of metropolitan Seoul, the modern ambivalent gaze of the colonial period shifted toward increasingly new value systems, and was replaced by a dichotomous view, and furthermore, that the contents of this dichotomous view has experienced a multivalent transformation through the accumulation of time and the expansion of space.

Building up an academic discipline on material assemblages: modern Europe's museum developments and 'museology'

  • At the turn of the century in which European colonialism was reaching its zenith and modernization was gathering speed, public museums were institutionalized. This paper looks into the part these European modern museums played in territorializing academic disciplines like anthropology and art history. The museums to deal with are the British Museum and the National Gallery in London, Mus?e du Louvre in Paris, and Museumsinsel in Berlin. Rather than in-depth detailed analysis of each museum, the aim is to explore the ways in which these museological institutions interacting with modern disciplines in the wider colonial context objectified other cultures and formulated a framework of the world through classification and comparison of material things, on the basis of the judgement of their artistic values. This exploration is also to rethink theoretical positions and perspectives on the museum in Korea. It is remarkable in Europe that such academic fields as history, art history, anthropology and cultural studies look for new possibilities of museology in conjunction with the recent proliferation of studies on the museum as a medium to construct and deconstruct knowledge. Meanwhile, the mammoth European museums which are often considered a stronghold of museology advocate the 'universal museum' themselves, quite the modern idea but in a revised rendering. Under these circumstances, this paper seeks to shed light on the definition of the museum as an arena in which scholarly discourses about art, culture and history can be created and contested, on the effectiveness of the museum as a communication medium in a postcolonial era, and on the need to pay trans-disciplinary attention to the museum in its broadest sense.

Scientific exploration on physiological basis of Svedana Karma (Sudation): A clinical application of heat stress.

  • Now researchers have focused attention on exploring the mechanism of acute responses of heat stress given in heat therapy that ultimately promotes the long term health benefits. Heat therapy is not a new idea rather it was practiced since thousands years back in the form of hot bath, sauna bath, steam room. Similarly in Ayurveda there is very comprehensive description of heat therapy in the form of Svedan karma (Sudation therapy). Svedan is a process to induce sweating artificially in a patient who had already undergone Snehan. Svedan is applied for purification of body, as well as in management of various disorders originated due to vitiation of Vata, Kapha Dosha, Meda Dhatu and musculoskeletal disorders. It produces various beneficial effects by augmenting the Agni like clears the channels, liquefies the deposited Dosha, regulates Vata Dosha, helps in removal and pacification of Dosha, augments metabolism (Agni Deepan), increases appetite, flexibility in body parts, softness and shining of skin, removes coldness, stiffness, drowsiness, improves joint motility. However, Svedana karma is vastly used by Ayurveda Physicians in treatment of various disorders but the mechanisms of beneficial effects produced by Svedan Karma are yet not completely explored on scientific basis. In this article, we will discuss and try to establish a possible mechanism of action of Svedana karma in relation to heat stress, mitochondrial adaptation, heat shock protein (HSP) and glucocorticoids as these are secreted under stressful conditions.

Exploration on the Development and Characteristics of Composites Painting in the Contemporary Art Ecology

  • The ecological expression of art in modern society takes the harmonious developmental relationship between man and nature as an element and combines it with the various manifestations of painting as an expression of ecological artistic development. The necessary relationship for the harmonious development of nature is accurately articulated, and the ecological changes in people are expressed in integrated materials that inspire human reflection. In the pursuit of material pleasures, mankind is neglectful and indifferent to the environment. The development of composite painting in art and ecology is a process that more reveres the harmony between man and nature as well as satisfying the creative value of the work. After systematic evaluation and research, people have engaged in various structural forms of composite art painting development in the long history of art development, focusing on the integration of environmental and ecological culture.In the process of nature education going through development, the comprehensive practical development of nature education is enhanced and efforts are made to feel new ecological art ideas and new ways of valuing environmental protection. In this paper, an observational study of eco-art will be carried out, starting from the theory of hierarchical division and analyzing the contradictory relationship between man and nature. Recognize nature, understand it and feel it through eco-art painting. The analysis of the contradictory relationship between man and nature is combined with the identification of various types of information that give value to the environmental protection public, and the combination of ecological painting and nature art to achieve an upgrade of the environmental protection idea of the value of painting.

한반도 황해 해역에서 발생한 2003년 3월 23일, 3월 30일 중규모 지진의 지진원 상수 (Source Parameters of Two Moderate Earthquakes at the Yellow Sea Area in the Korean Peninsula on March 22 and 30, 2003)

  • 2003년 3월 23일 한반도 홍도 해역, 3월 30일 한반도 백령도 해역에서 규모 5.0 및 4.8의 중규모 지진이 잇달아 발생하였다. 파형역산법을 적용하여 두 지진의 발진기구를 분석한 결과 3월 23일 지진은 약간의 역단층 성분을 포함하는 주향이동단층의 특성을 보이며, 3월 30일 지진은 정단층 특성을 보인다. P축의 방향은 동북동-서남서 방향으로 한반도 주응력 방향에 대한 이전 연구결과와 부합한다. 파형역산에 의한 각 지진의 모멘트규모는 4.7과 4.5로 결정되었으며, 스펙트럼 분석에 의한 각 지진의 모멘트규모는 4.8과 4.6으로 결정되었다. 홍도 해역 지진은 국지적인 응력보다는 황해에 전체적으로 작용하는 판구조적 응력 분포를 반영한다. 그러나 백령도 해역 지진은 기존의 섭입대나 충돌대에 의해 발생한 연약대가 인장방향의 응력을 받아 재활되어 발생하는 것으로 추정되며, 충돌대의 한반도 연장 가능성에 대한 지진학적 관측 증거를 간접적으로 제시한다.

교육용 로봇을 활용한 초등학교 과학교과의 STEAM교육 수업 방안 (A Study of STEAM Education for Elementary Science Subject with Robots)

  • 교육과학기술부는 2011년 융합형인재교육의 일환으로 STEAM교육을 발표하였다. 가장 중요한 문제는 "어떻게 STEAM교육의 목표를 달성하는가?"이다. 그래서 본 논문에서는 상황제시를 위한 초등학교 5학년 과학의 광합성 단원의 내용과 "심해탐사로봇"이라는 창의적 주제를 가지고 로봇을 활용한 STEAM교육을 실시하였다. 학생들은 13차시의 로봇 기초교육과정을 이수한 후, 10차시의 주제중심 로봇활용교육을 실시하였다. 로봇기초교육과정에서는 로봇을 제어할 때, 정규 수학 또는 과학과목에서 배운 내용을 적용할 수 있도록 구성되었으며, 로봇활용교육과정에서는 산소센서를 이용한 광합성 이해, 브레인스토밍, 아이디어 도출, 로봇 설계, 로봇 제작, 시연 및 발표의 과정으로 구성되었다. 이 두 개의 과정에는 STEAM의 모든 요소가 포함되었다. 모든 수업이 끝난 후, 학부모와 학생들의 교사면담을 통해서 창의성, 학습태도, 학교생활의 많은 부분에서 긍정적인 답변을 얻을 수 있었다. 특히 학교생활과 학습태도가 좋지 않은 학생들이 로봇경연 대회에서 우수한 성적을 거둠으로써, 학습의 자신감과 성취감을 가질 수 있었다. 통계적인 수치를 기술하지는 않았지만 이 수업으로 인하여 STEAM교육을 위한 로봇활용교육이 창의 인성, 직업탐색등에 매우 큰 효과가 있음을 알 수 있었다.
