  • An effect of the salt solution on the Water Tree Propagation was shown systematically from the actions of the salt concentration in deionized water. It may be able to suggest that the tree propagation is possibly to be connected with an intervention of the electrochemical or chemical actions of the salt solution on water tree propagation, which may likely depend on the growth level of the trees. We have pointed out that it is necessary to study the structure of water tree under the electrical stress.

  • The use of fluoride is one of the most effective methods for caries prevention. Fluoridation of public water supply has been recognized, for many years, as an effective way to reduce dental caries. The fluoride supplement has been recommended when the natural fluoride was unavailable or below the optimal range. However the mechanism of caries prevention by fluoride has not yet been clarified and it is well known that an overdose of fluoride results inacute and chronic toxicity, especially dental fluorosis. Fluoride mouthrinsing solution is widely used in dentistry due to its effectiveness in carrying anticariogenic action. Understanding the effects of fluoride mouthrinsing solution on human gingival fibroblasts will provide the safety rationale for its use during the caries preventive therapy. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the cytotoxic effect of fluoride mouthrinsing solution on the human gingival fibroblast in vitro. The human gingival fibroblasts were cultured from healthy gingiva on the extracted deciduous teeth of children. Cells were inoculated into a 24-well plate with $1{\times}10^4cells/well$ of medium at $37^{\circ}C$, 100% humidity, 5% $CO_2$ incubator for 24 hours. And the cells were counted by using the hemocytometer at each designed study. Human gingival fibroblasts were cultured in growth medium after one minute application range of 0.02%-0.2% NaF solution and 0.1% $SnF_2$ solution. The cells used in this study were between fifth to eighth passage number. The cell morphology was examined by inverted microscope and cell proliferation was measured by incorporating $[^3H]$-thymidine into DNA. DNA synthesis by human gingival fibroblasts was assessed by $[^3H]$-thymidine uptake assays while the cell activity was measured by MTT assay. Each concentrated fluoride mouthrinsing solution was estimated for its biocompatability with fibroblasts by the tissue culture technique. The results of this study were as follows : 1. It was observed that at 0.05%, 0.2% NaF mouthrinsing solution the cytoplasmic processes became globular. When 0.1% $SnF_2$ mouthrinsing solution was applied, the cytoplasmic process and cell morphology were disappeared. 2. DNA synthetic activity was reduced regardless of the concentration of the fluoride mouthrinsing solution. However, the result is statistically insignificant except 0.1% $SnF_2$ mouthrinsing solution(p<0.05). 3. Our results indicate that 0.02%, 0.05% concentrations of NaF mouthrinsing solution caused minimal cytotoxicity. But 0.2% NaF and 0.1% $SnF_2$ concentration were a significant difference between the cell activity in the experimental group and control group (p<0.05). 4. After appling 0.05% & 0.02% NaF fluoride mouthrinsing solution, cell activity was restored to the control groups level according to incubating time. The results suggest that direct exposure to fluoride solution inhibits gingival fibroblast activity. Therefore, for the most effective use of fluoride use, lowering the concentration of fluoride mouthrinsing is advisable because it maintains biocompatability and free ion in the oral fluid.

  • Fe thin films containing Si particles were prepared on metallic substrates by electrodeposition method in sulfate solutions and the content of codeposited Si particles in the films was investigated as a function of applied current density, the content of Si particels in the solution, solution pH, solution temperature and concentration of $FeSO_4$$7H_2$O in the solution. The amount of Si codeposited in the film was not dependent on the applied current density, solution pH and solution temperature, while it was dependent on the content of Si particles in the solution and the concentration of $FeSO_4$$7H_2$O in the solution. The amount of Si codeposited in the film increased with increasing content of Si particles in the solution but reached a maximum value of about 6 wt% when the content of Si particles in the solution exceeds 100 g/l. On the other hand, the content of Si codeposited in the film increased up to about 17 wt% with decreasing concentration of $FeSO_4$$7H_2$O in the solution. These results would be applied to the fabrication of very thin Fe-6.5 wt% Si sheets for electrical applications.

  • Recently companies are aggressively Pushing ahead with integrating the systematical applications of internal and external information systems such as Data level, Application level, Process level in the company, Process level between companies. The EAI solution is generally considered as the necessary tool to integrate companies, but the appraisal standard for the EAI solution has not Vet settled in Korea, so the companies have difficulty in deciding whether to adopt the EAI solution or not. Through this report, we first introduce the KRA Project as the best practice in making an application of the settled standard to evaluate and adopt the EAI solution, and then suggest that it can be adapted to companies considering applying to the EAI solution.

  • An approximate analytical solution of a nonlinear hydro-thermo coupled diffusion equation is derived using the dimensionless form of the equation and transformation method. To derive an analytical solution, it is drastically assumed that the product of first order derivatives in the non-dimensionalized governing equation has little influence on the solution of heat and moisture behavior problem. The validity of this drastic assumption is demonstrated. Some numerical simulation is performed to investigate the applicability of a derived approximate analytical solution. The results show a good agreement between analytical and numerical solutions. The proposed solution may provide a useful tool in the verification process of the numerical models. Also, the solution can be used for the analysis of one-dimensional coupled heat and moisture movements in unsaturated porous media.

  • An Approximate solution for plane two-dimensional incompressible laminar jet issuing from a finite opening with arbitrary initial profile into the same ambient fluid is proposed. For an arbitrary initial velocity profile, the problem is generated from the well known similarity solution for the jet of infinitesimal opening and provides good approximations in the region where the similarity solution cannot be used as an approximation. The asymptotic behavior of this solution is investigated and it is shown that, as goes downstream, the present solution approachs the similarity solution.

  • Owing to the modification of testing methods of disinfectants or antiseptics, variations of bacteria according to characteristics of regions and resistance changes of bacteria, it is necessary that the bactericidal activities of disinfectants or antiscptics should be reevaluated nowadays. This study was carried out to reevaluate in the vitro bactericidal activity of Chlorhexidine gluconate solution. The results of experiment were summarized as follows. 1. For Chlorhexidine gluconate solution, minimal inhibitory concentrations of total bacteria taken from sewage water and Legionella bozemanii were $2.0\times 10^{-3}$%, $1.0\times 10^{-2}$%, respectively and were comparatively high. Minimal inhibitory concentration of Shigella flexneri was $1.6\times 10^{-4}$%, and was comparatively low. 2. For total bacteria taken from sewage water, it was killed within 15 minute in 0.1% Chlorhexidine gluconate solution when number of cells was $1.6\times 10^7$/ml. 3. For 0.0125% Chlorhexidine gluconate solution, decimal reduction times of Ps. aeruginosa, S. typhi, E. Coli were 45 sec, 25 sec, 18 sec repectively. For 1%, 0.125% Chlorhexidine gluconate solution, decimal reduction times of Legionella bozemanii were 10 sec, 45 sec respectively. 4. There was significant difference in the bactericidal activity of Chlorhexidine gluconate solution according to temperattire. Phenol coefficient of Chlorhexidine gluconate solution as using Staph. aureus was 100 and comparatively higher than that of other disinfectants. In comparison with other disinfectants, Legionella bozemanii was killed within 5 minutes in 0.02% KMnO$_4$ and 0.125% Chlorhexidine giuconate solution but was not killed within 3 minutes in 1% 0-cresol, 1% Phenol.

  • A band function model paired comparison method (BMPC method) is a kind of a paired comparison methods. Considering the human ambiguities, the BMPC method expressing the human judgment characteristics as a monotonous increase function with some width. Since function types are not specified in a BMPC method, the solution is obtained from inequalities, and the solution is given as a domain. To solve the simultaneous inequalities, the sequential renew method is used in the previous BMPC method. However, the sequential renew method requires much computational effort and memories. Generally, in BMPC method, it is able to solve only a paired comparison table which has less 12-13 samples. For that purpose, a new fast solution algorithm is required. In this paper, we proposed a new “search vector method” which renews the solution domain without creating new edge vectors. By using the method, it is able to decrease the necessary memory spaces and time to solve. The proposed method makes it able to solve more than 15 samples paired comparison inspections which are impossible to solve by previous method.
